(How to Use the Extech VPC300)
1. Turn on the Extech VPC300 (EV3) by pressing and holding the power button (3-5 seconds).
2. To get to setup mode, press the enter button ( ).

3. On the Particle Measurement screen, press
4. On the Particle Settings screen, only 2 settings need attention: Sample Time and Sample Mode.

5. To set Sample Time press the enter button ( ).
6. On this screen seen below, press the enter button ( ) again.

7. Then press the up arrow ( ) or down arrow ( ) until it reads 60 seconds.
8. On the same screen, press the enter button ( ) to set/save the Sample Time.

9. On the same screen, press the button to return to the Particle Settings screen.
(If you did it correctly, you will briefly see the word “Success”flash in white letters in the bottom
left corner of the Sample Time screen.)
10. On this screen below, press the down arrow ( ) to select Sample Mode.

11. On the same screen, press the enter button ( ) to set Sample Mode.
12. When the Sample Mode screen appears, Cumulative is the default setting. Make sure
Cumulative is selected.

13. On the same screen, press the button to set/save the Sample Mode and return to the
Particle Settings screen.
(Again, if you did it correctly, you will briefly see the word “Success”flash in white letters in
the bottom left corner of the Sample Mode screen.)
Now you’re ready to run your first sample.
14. Return to the Particle Measurement screen before running your first test.

15. Open the temperature/RH sensor by sliding down its protective cover.
16. Remove cap from isokinetic probe.

17. Press button to start sample test. (Machine will automatically stop after 1 minute.)
*IMPORTANT: Anytime you run the device –whether cleaning or testing –the sleeve on the
temperature/RH sensor needs to be slid down all the way and the cap on the isokinetic probe needs to
be removed.
18. If you would like to take a screen capture/shot of your reading when the meter stops after 1
minute, simply press the button. (To save, press again; or press to delete it.)

19. You can access screen captures later by returning to the “start-up” screen (below).

21. The Memory Set screen will appear.
22. Next press the up arrow ( ) or down arrow ( ) to select the Picture option.

23. Then press the enter button ( ).
24. A screen will appear (below) displaying your captured images. Press the up arrow ( ) or
down arrow ( ) to find and highlight the screen capture you want. Then press the enter
button ( ).
*You can also do this process (steps 19-24) to retrieve saved videos and particle logs. On step 22,
rather than the Picture option, choose Video or Particle Logs instead.

25. Also, be sure to zero out the particle count sensor from time to time (see step 29 for more
discussion). First, unscrew (“righty tight-y, lefty loose-y”) and remove the isokinetic probe.
26. Then attach Zero Count Filter in place of isokinetic probe.

27. Open the temperature/RH sensor by sliding down its protective cover (pictured lightened to
show detail).
28. Press button to clean/purge the device.

29. It will run for your pre-set, 60-second sample time. Make sure all 6 channels are zeroed out.
*You may want to run this 2, 3, or even 4 times to purge the system of any particles. (This is a
good practice to perform if you’ve been in an especially-dirty environment and before sampling
your next location.) If you are having trouble getting your counts back to zero, you may have to
go back and change the Sample Cycle to 10 and run the meter multiple times with this Sample
Cycle setting (see Pg. 15 of the Extech User Manual for details). *REMEMBER: If you change
the Sample Cycle to 10 to purge/clean, be sure to change it back to 1 for your next IAQ test!
NOTE: Your Extech VPC300 needs to be calibrated annually. You must fill out a form and request a
Return Authorization #. Visit Extech’s website (http://www.extech.com/) and click on “Repair and
Calibration” under “SERVICE & SUPPORT” in the bottom right hand corner. It takes roughly 15-
20 days to get your device back once you send it in for recalibration. For assistance, you can also
contact Customer Support at (877) 239-8324, Option 2 (9am –5pm Eastern Time).
One last thing to mention:
Your Extech comes with PC software and a USB cable “to connect to and communicate with a PC.”
