Carbon Monoxide Meter
Model CO10
Introduction
Congratulations on your purchase of the Extech C010 Carbon Monoxide Meter. The
CO10 detects the presence of carbon monoxide (CO) and measures and displays
concentrations between 0 and 1000 parts per million (ppm). Careful use of this meter will
provide years of reliable service.

Safety Information
Carbon monoxide is life threatening even at relatively low
concentrations; learn and recognize the effects of CO poisoning (see
Table below). Do not use this meter as a personal safety monitoring
device.

200 PPM Mild headache, fatigue, nausea and dizziness
400 PPM Frontal headache, life threatening after 3 hours

Operation
MEASUREMENTS
IMPORTANT: Ensure that the meter is turned on in an area free of CO. If not, the
meter will read incorrectly when subsequently measuring CO.
Press the ON/OFF key once to turn the meter on. The meter will perform a short self-test.
To turn the meter off, press the ON/OFF key. If the meter is left on, the meter will
automatically power off after 15 minutes to conserve battery life.
To use the meter, trace the CO10 around the area of the suspected leak.
The meter will indicate the presence of CO (in ppm) on the LCD display. An audible beep
will sound at 35 ppm alerting the user that the threshold of dangerous CO levels has been
detected. The higher the concentration of CO, the faster the beeper will sound. Above
200PPM the beeper will sound continuously.
HOLD
Press the HOLD button to freeze the reading in the display. The hold icon will appear in the
display. Press the HOLD button again to return to normal operation.
MAX
Press the MAX button to hold the highest reading. The MAX icon will appear in the display.
When in max mode the meter only displays the highest CO level it has detected. Press the
MAX button again to return to normal operation.
BACKLIGHT
Press the backlight key to turn the display backlight on. Press the backlight button to turn
the backlight off.

Warranty
EXTECH INSTRUMENTS CORPORATION warrants this instrument to be free of defects in parts and workmanship for one
year from date of shipment (a six month limited warranty applies on sensors and cables). If it should become necessary to
return the instrument for service during or beyond the warranty period, contact the Customer Service Department at (781)
890-7440 ext. 210 for authorization or visit our website at www.extech.com (click on ‘Contact Extech’ and go to ‘Service
Department’ to request an RA number). A Return Authorization (RA) number must be issued before any product is returned
to Extech. The sender is responsible for shipping charges, freight, insurance and proper packaging to prevent damage in
transit. This warranty does not apply to defects resulting from action of the user such as misuse, improper wiring, operation
outside of specification, improper maintenance or repair, or unauthorized modification. Extech specifically disclaims any
implied warranties or merchantability or fitness for a specific purpose and will not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental
or consequential damages. Extech's total liability is limited to repair or replacement of the product. The warranty set forth
above is inclusive and no other warranty, whether written or oral, is expressed or implied.
Calibration and Repair Services
Extech offers repair and calibration services for the products we sell. Extech also provides NIST certification for most products.
Call the Customer Service Department for information on calibration services available for this product. Extech recommends
that annual calibrations be performed to verify meter performance and accuracy.
