2The Remote Control Handset
AvediaPlayer Receivers can be controlled using the Exterity Infrared (IR) remote control handset.
Inserting Batteries
The batteries for the IR Remote Control are shipped separately. If the batteries in the remote
control stop working, they should be replaced with two AAA sized replacements. Ideally use
carbon zinc (R03) replacement batteries. Alkaline (LR03) batteries may be used but offer no
advantage. Do not mix batteries of different types or age.
Warning: "Ultra" or "plus" batteries, especially those containing lithium (FR03), must not be installed in the IR
Remote Control.
To insert new AAA disposable batteries:
1 On the back of the IR Remote Control, push down on the battery compartment lid and slide it
towards the nearest end of the handset to detach it from the controller.
2 Insert two new AAA (R03 or LR03) batteries. Orient the batteries so that the positive (+) and
negative (–) ends are positioned as shown by the diagram on the bottom of the battery
compartment.
3 Relocate the battery compartment lid and slide to close.
Remote Control Key Functions
Figure 1 identifies the keys/functions that are used by the AvediaPlayer Receiver and can also be
used by a TV.
The response of the AvediaPlayer Receiver to remote control key presses is determined by the
installed firmware version of the receiver. Some button functions can also be customized. Refer to
the relevant AvediaPlayer Receiver Administrator’s Guide for the installed firmware for more
information.
Note: When the remote control has been programed for TV operation, you can apply the key
functions detailed in Figure 1 to the receiver by first pressing and holding the OK key.

Handset
Five buttons on an Exterity remote control handset V5 can be reconfigured to directly control a TV.
Several methods are available to configure the remote to control a specific TV. Each method is
triggered by a special key-press. An overview of the programing features and the corresponding
key press is shown in Table 1, with more details in subsequent sections.
Notation: <> normal key press, << >> press and hold this key or these keys for 3 seconds. 1+3
indicates pressing both keys at the same time, whereas 1, 3 indicates pressing the keys
sequentially.

Chapter 3: Programing the Remote Control Handset
General
• When you start a programing feature, the Standby LED on the handset turns on to indicate this.
• When you enter a valid key press sequence in Programing mode, the Standby LED blinks in
confirmation.
• If you enter an invalid key press sequence, the Standby LED indicates an error blink.
• If the remote stays in Programing mode the Standby LED turns on again. If the remote returns
to Use mode, the Standby LED turns off.
• When the remote handset returns to Use mode from Programing mode, the Standby LED is
turned off, optionally preceded by a confirmation or error blinking sequence.
• After each key press in Programing mode you have some time to press the next key. This is the
inactivity timeout period. For some programing features this timeout can differ. If no key is
pressed within a timeout period the Standby LED displays an error blink and turns off. The
remote handset returns to Use mode.
• When the remote handset is put in Programing mode, it checks for sufficient battery charge. If
the battery is too low, it performs an error blink and returns to Use mode.
Blinking Patterns
Blinking patterns signal a confirmation or error. The sequences are defined below:
• Confirmation blink: 200ms off, 200ms on, 200ms off, 200ms on, 200ms off
• Error blink: 50ms off, 50ms on, 50ms off, 50ms on, 50ms off, 50ms on, 50ms off, 50ms on, 50ms
off, 50ms on, 50ms off.
• ID blink out: 400ms on, 300ms off.
Tip: ID blink out mode is used to identify which TV brand code-set has been programmed on the
remote handset.
Programing Features
Brand-search & Auto-search Programing (1+3)
There are two different scenarios for this feature. The main function is to search through the
universal code-sets of one brand. Another function is to search through all universal code-sets
(auto search).
Brand search and Auto search can be done by pressing either the Standby or Mute key. If Power is
used, the remote sends Standby or Power-Off commands to the device (TV). If the Mute key is
used, the remote sends Mute commands to the TV.
If the four digits entered for the TV Brand search are all zeroes, or there are no digits entered before
Standby or Mute, Auto search is enabled.
First the brand number or the universal code number is entered, and then the auto search
sequence starts. Upon selection, the new universal code number is programed to non-volatile
memory as if it had been selected manually.

Chapter 3: Programing the Remote Control Handset
To select a brand search:
1 Ensure the TV is turned on.
2 Press and hold 1 and 3 together for a minimum of 3 seconds and the Standby LED turns on.
3 Release the key(s).
4 Enter the 4-digit code for the brand.
Note: When no brand digits are entered the remote starts a full auto-search.
When a digit is pressed, the LED gives a short inverse blink, after the fourth digit, the remote
checks if the 4-digit code was valid.
If correct, the Standby LED displays a confirmation blink and remains on (the search includes all
code- sets that are linked to the selected brand).
If the code was not valid, an error-blink is displayed, and the remote returns to Use mode. Apart
from digits, you can press other keys. Most key-presses are simply ignored (no inverse blink). If you
press optional keys (Up, Down, Left, Right or OK) the corresponding AvediaPlayer Receiver code is
sent and the Standby LED turns on when receiver code is transmitted.
5 Press and hold the Standby or Mute key. After 2 seconds a Power Toggle or Mute IR command
is transmitted for the next universal code-set in the code-set list for the selected brand. The
Standby LED turns off during transmission of the IR-code.
No new IR commands are sent during the next 1.5 – 2 seconds (to prevent selecting subsequent
code-sets before the device turns off). If the device does not turn off or mute keep pressing the
key. The remote then tries the next universal code-set in the list for the selected brand.
With a Brand Search, the sequence stops completely when all code-sets of the selected brand are
tested twice. For an Auto-search, all code-sets of the whole database are tested once. When this
stage is reached the remote performs an error blink and no further codes are sent.
6 When the TV turns off or mutes, release the Standby or Mute key. This confirms the current
code-set. The code number is programed to non-volatile memory.
7 Now you can try pressing some keys. (Try mode)
8 In Try mode, you can test the TV functions that are available in Use mode. For TV these are the
Vol+/Vol-, mute, AV, and TV Standby keys. If the Mute key was used to select the code-set, you
can only try the Vol+/ Vol- and Mute keys.
9 If the Standby key was used to select the code-set you can try all keys as specified above. If
other keys are pressed, no code is transmitted.
10 When you have confirmed the correct code-set has been selected, exit Programing mode and
return to Use mode by pressing HOME + stop (>).
Note: If there are no key presses for 5 minutes when the remote is in Programing mode, an error
blink is displayed and it reverts to Use mode.
Note: At any time in Programing mode before step 5, you can abort programing by pressing HOME
+ stop (>). A confirmation blink is displayed, and the remote handset returns to Use mode,
canceling any changes.
Manual Code-set Entry Programing (1+6)
This procedure shows you how to manually enter a code from the TV Brand Code-set Manual Load
List on page 21.
To manually enter a TV code:
1 Press and hold 1 and 6 together for a minimum of 3 seconds. During the initial 3 seconds, the
Standby LED remains off. After a further 3 seconds the Standby LED blinks twice and remains
on.
2 Enter a four digit code from the TV Brand Code-set Manual Load List on page 21.

10
Chapter 3: Programing the Remote Control Handset
Note: Only digit keys are allowed. When a digit is pressed, the LED turns off for the duration of the
key-press with a 150ms minimum. Any other key press will result in an invalid sequence.
Note: If the first digit is 9, the remote handset expects the Manufacturing Reset codes (page 11).
3 If the entered sequence of digits is valid, the Standby LED displays a confirmation blink and the
handset returns to Use Mode. If the sequence is invalid, an error blink is displayed, and the
handset returns to Use Mode.
A successful Manual code-set entry programs the new code into non-volatile memory. All
Universal keys (shown in Figure 1) are programed.
KeyFix (1+9)
After configuring a code-set using Brand-search, Auto-search, or manual code-set entry, you may
find that keys do not send the right commands for the TV. KeyFix allows you to quickly and simply
resolve these.
To resolve erroneous keys:
1 Press and hold 1 and 9 together for a minimum of 3 seconds. The Standby LED turns on.
2 Now press any of the keys that control the TV. Normal presses require less than 2 seconds. IR
codes are sent when the key is released. On release, IR codes are sent for at least three frames or
0.25s.
3 If a key doesn’t work, keep that key pressed for longer than two seconds. This initiates a KeyFix
search for the pressed key.
While you keep the key pressed, the remote handset looks for alternative IR codes for that key and
iterates through them. With an interval of 2 seconds, the remote handset sends an alternative code
to the TV and turns off the Standby LED. If no Brand id is known, the interval is 1.5 seconds.
The KeyFix search stops when all options have been tried. The Standby LED displays an error blink
and the handset returns to user mode.
4 When the TV reacts correctly, release the key. If the KeyFix search was not complete, the remote
performs a confirmation blink, and stores the new IR code for that key.
If the Keyfix search has already been exhausted, there is no confirmation blink and no changes
are saved.
5 You can now return to step 2. When completed, press HOME + stop (>)to return the remote
handset to Use mode.
Decimal TV Code-set ID Blink Out (1 + 6, RED, 1, 2, 3, 4)
You can use the programing function to read back the programed code-set.
To read back the programed TV code-set:
1 Press and hold 1 and 6 together for a minimum of 3 seconds. During the initial 3 seconds, the
Standby LED remains off. After a further 3 seconds the Standby LED blinks twice and remains
on.
2 Press RED. The Standby LED displays a confirmation blink and remains off.
3 Press 1 - the number of blinks of the LED represents the 1st number value of the code-set.
4 Press 2 - the number of blinks of the LED represents the 2nd number value of the code-set.
5 Press 3 - the number of blinks of the LED represents the 3rd number value of the code-set.
6 Press 4 - the number of blinks of the LED represents the 4th number value of the code-set.
7 When the blinks of the 4th number have been completed the remote handset returns to Use
mode.

11
Chapter 3: Programing the Remote Control Handset
Note: No blinks indicate a zero. There is no confirmation blink to complete this process as it may
be confused with a code-set number blink. A value of 9999 indicates no programed
code-set.
Any deviation from the 1, 2, 3, 4 sequence is seen as an invalid key press. When this
happens, the Standby LED displays an error blink, and returns to Use mode.
Decimal Brand ID Blink Out (1 + 6, Green, 1, 2, 3, 4)
You can use the programing function to read back the programed TV brand.
1 Press and hold 1 and 6 together for a minimum of 3 seconds. During the initial 3 seconds, the
Standby LED remains off. After a further 3 seconds the Standby LED blinks twice and remains
on.
2 Press GREEN. The Standby LED displays a confirmation blink and remains off.
3 Press 1 - the number of blinks of the LED represents the 1st number value of the TV brand.
4 Press 2 - the number of blinks of the LED represents the 2nd number value of the TV brand.
5 Press 3 - the number of blinks of the LED represents the 3rd number value of the TV brand.
6 Press 4 - the number of blinks of the LED represents the 4th number value of the TV brand.
7 When the blinks of the 4th number have been completed the remote handset returns to Use
mode.
Note: There is no confirmation blink to complete this process as it may be confused with a
code-set number blink.
No blinks indicate a zero. A value of 9999 indicates no programed TV brand.
Any deviation from the 1, 2, 3, 4 sequence is seen as an invalid key press. When this
happens, the Standby LED displays an error blink, and returns to Use mode.
Manufacturing Reset (1 + 6, 9, 8, 1)
You can delete any code-set you have programed into the remote handset and return it to the
factory default settings.
To reset the remote handset to factory default settings:
1 Press and hold 1 and 6 together for a minimum of 3 seconds. During the initial 3 seconds, the
Standby LED remains off. After a further 3 seconds the Standby LED blinks twice and remains
on.
2 Enter 9, 8, 1.
3 If the entered sequence of digits is valid, the Standby LED displays a confirmation blink, all
programed settings are deleted. The handset returns to the factory default settings and returns
to Use Mode.
Note: If no keys are pressed within 10 seconds of pressing 9, the Standby LED displays an
error-blink, and the remote handset returns to Use mode.
