LANKKU TRAY CARE INSTRUCTIONS
In the following you’ll nd general
maintenance instructions and tips for
your wooden chopping boards.
Since wood is porous material, it
will suffer from excess humidity. If a
wooden tray/chopping board dries out,
it may split. The best protection for
the wood is regular oiling. The oil layer
will prevent absorption of bacteria too.
Lankku has been treated with pharma-
ceutical oil in the factory. However, the
oil will wear out in use and therefore, it
should be added on a monthly basis.
You should wash your chopping board
thoroughly after every use. You may
use mild, warm soap water and dish
brush. Do not soak your wooden
chopping board as the wood may split
or curve. You should not use a dish
washer for your chopping board.
In case you are handling material
which may stain (e.g. beet root), you
should protect the chopping board by
using e.g. greaseproof paper.
OILING OF THE PRODUCT
The oil for the surface treatment must
be food grade. Please note that many
EN oils like olive oil may affect the colour
of the wood. Food oils like rapeseed
and olive oil may become rancid on the
surface.
The product has originally been
treated with FDA certied pharma-
ceutical oil. If you wish to maintain as
similar effect as possible, it is rec-
ommended to use parafn oil which
may be bought from your pharmacy.
Parafn oil is transparent and mildly
scented. Please note that parafn oil
will darken the product.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE OILING:
1. CLEAN THE BOARD: You should pro-
tect your working environment prior to
oiling. You may use a cloth or kitchen
paper. Clean the board before oiling.
2. ADD THE FOOD GRADE OIL:Spread
the oil by using a clean, soft cloth
or towel. Spread the oil evenly and
throughout the wooden surface in ac-
cordance with the wood bres.
3. LET THE OIL ABSORB: Leave the oil
to absorb at least a couple of hours,
preferably over the night, before any
further use.
4. REMOVE ANY EXCESS OIL: You may
repeat the procedure until the chop-
ping board does no longer absorb any
oil. Finally, if the board feels sticky
or too oily, remove any excess (unab-
sorbed) oil e.g. by using kitchen paper.
