•Electro static discharge does inflict irreparable damage to electronics! Before installing or
opening the F126-P-EG-TP, the installer has to discharge himself by touching a well-

•The F126-P-EG-TP must be installed in accordance with the EMC guidelines (Electro
Magnetic Compatibility).
•Connect a proper grounding to the metal enclosure as indicated if the F126-P-EG-TP has
an incoming power or signal line which carries a hazardous live voltage.
The Protective Earth (PE) wire may never be disconnected or removed.
•Intrinsically Safe applications: follow the instructions as mentioned in Chapter 5.

1 INTRODUCTION
1.1 SYSTEM DESCRIPTION
Functions and features
The flow rate / totalizer model F126-P-EG-TP is a microprocessor driven instrument for the
calculation of standard volumetric flow or mass flow for gas applications using flow equations.
This product has been designed with a focus on:
▪ultra-low power consumption to allow long-life battery powered applications (type PB/PC)
▪intrinsic safety for use in hazardous applications (type XI)
▪several mounting possibilities with aluminum or GRP enclosures for harsh industrial
surroundings
▪ability to process all types of flowmeter signals
▪transmitting possibilities with analog / pulse and communication outputs.
Flow meter, temperature and pressure sensor input
This manual describes the unit with a passive or active pulse, Namur or sine wave (coil) signal input
from the flowmeter. The pressure input is an analog (0)4-20 mA input, temperature is input from a
Pt100 sensor.
To power the flow meter, several options are available.
Standard outputs
▪Pulse output to transmit a pulse that represents a totalized quantity as programmed.
▪Linear (0)4-20mA or 0-10V analog output to represent the actual flow rate as programmed. The
(0)4-20mA or 0-10V signal limits can be tuned.

Configuration of the unit
The F126-P-EG-TP is designed for use in many types of applications. For that reason, a setup menu
is available to program the F126-P-EG-TP according to your specific requirements.
The setup includes several important features, such as K-Factors, engineering units, signal
selection, power management (to extend battery life-time), etc. All settings are stored in a non-
volatile memory and therefore saved in the event of a power failure or an exhausted battery.
Display information
The unit has a LCD with (optional) backlight to show the process information, status and alarm
messages. The display refresh rate is programmed in the setup menu.
At a key press, the display refresh rate will switch to FAST for 30 seconds. When 'OFF' is selected,
the display goes off after 30 seconds after the last key press. The display temporarily comes on after
a key press.
A backup of the total and accumulated total in EEPROM memory is made every minute.
Options
The following options are available: isolated or active (0)4-20mA / 0-10V analog output, full Modbus
communication RS232/485/TTL (also battery powered), intrinsic safety, mechanical relay or active
output, power- and sensor-supply options, panel mount, wall mount and weather proof enclosures,
flame proof enclosure and LED backlight.

2 OPERATIONAL
2.1 GENERAL INFORMATION
This chapter describes the daily use of the F126-P-EG-TP. This instruction is meant for users /
operators.
•This device may only be operated by persons who are authorized and trained by the
operator of the facility. All instructions in this manual are to be observed.
•Take careful notice of the "Safety rules, instructions and precautionary measures" in the
front of this manual.
2.2 CONTROL PANEL
The control panel has three keys. The following keys are available:

Functions of the keys
PROG-key
This key is used to program and save new values or settings.
The PROG-key is also used to gain access to SETUP-level; please read chapter 3.
SELECT-key
This key is used to SELECT the displayed information, like accumulated total and flow
rate.
CLEAR-key
This key is used to CLEAR the value of total.
2.3 OPERATOR INFORMATION AND FUNCTIONS
In general, the F126-P-EG-TP will always function at Operator level. The information displayed is
dependent upon the SETUP-settings. The signal from the connected sensor is processed by the
F126-P-EG-TP in the background, whichever screen refresh rate setting is chosen. After pressing a
key, the display will be updated very quickly during a 30 second period, after which it will slow-down
again.

For the Operator, the following functions are available:
▪Display compensated flow rate and/or compensated total
This is the main display information of the F126-P-EG-TP. After the selection of any other
information, it will always return to this main display automatically. Total is shown on the upper
line of the display and flow rate on the bottom line. When selected in the setup menu, the display
shows the flow rate only. When you press the select key, the total shows momentarily.
When "-------" is shown, then the flow rate value is too high to be shown. The arrows indicate
the increase/decrease of the flow rate trend.
▪Clear total
The value for total can be reset. To do so, press the CLEAR/key twice. When the key is
pressed once, the text "PUSH CLEAR" is shown. To avoid a reset at this stage, press another
key other than the CLEAR/key or wait for 20 seconds. A reset of the total does not influence
the accumulated total.
▪Display accumulated compensated total
When the SELECT/key is pressed, total and accumulated total are shown. The accumulated
total cannot be reset. The value will count up to 99,999,999,999. The unit and number of
decimals are shown according to the settings for the total.
▪Display line temperature
When the SELECT/key is pressed three times, the actual temperature is shown.
Note that the actual flow rate shows on the bottom line intermittently.
▪Display line pressure
When the SELECT/key is pressed two times, the actual pressure is shown.
Note that the actual flow rate shows on the bottom line intermittently.
▪Range error
As soon as the input value is out of the calibrated PT100 measurement range, the alarm indicator
shows. When the SELECT/key is pressed a few times, the alarm code is shown in the alarm
display. This alarm is also activated at a wire break or faulty sensor.
Standard range for Pt100 is -100°C - +200°C, extended range ( type ZV) is -200° - +800°C.
▪Low-battery alarm
When the battery voltage drops, the "low-battery" icon will be displayed continuously. The battery
MUST be replaced shortly after!
The remaining lifetime after the first moment of indication is generally several days up to some
weeks. See paragraph 6.3 for further information on battery replacement.

3 CONFIGURATION
3.1 INTRODUCTION
This and the following chapters are exclusively meant for electricians and non-operators. In these,
an extensive description of all software settings and hardware connections are provided.
•Mounting, electrical installation, start-up and maintenance of this device may only be
carried out by trained persons authorized by the operator of the facility. Persons must
read and understand this manual before carrying out its instructions.
•This device may only be operated by persons who are authorized and trained by the
operator of the facility. All instructions in this manual are to be observed.
•Make sure, the measuring system is correctly wired up according to the wiring diagrams.
Protection against accidental contact is no longer assured when the enclosure cover is
removed or the panel cabinet has been opened (danger from electrical shock). The
enclosure may only be opened by trained persons authorized by the operator of the
facility.
•Take careful notice of the "Safety rules, instructions and precautionary measures" in the
front of this manual.
3.2 PROGRAMMING SETUP-LEVEL
Changing the settings of the F126-P-EG-TP may have an influence on the current operation
of the device, even when SETUP-level is still active.
Make sure that the unit is not being used for any application when altering the settings.
3.2.1 ENTERING SETUP-LEVEL
Configuration of the F126-P-EG-TP is done at SETUP-level, which can be reached at all times while
the F126-P-EG-TP remains fully operational. At SETUP-level the display will deactivate the RUN
indicator and activate the SETUP indicator.
Use the control panel to access SETUP-level
PROG-key
To enter SETUP-level, press the PROG-key for 7 seconds at OPERATOR-level.
During this time, the symbols  will be displayed.
When SETUP-level is entered, a password might be required to continue. You can
enter the password by following the procedure for programming values as described in
the following paragraphs.
A password may be required to enter SETUP.
Without this password access to SETUP is denied.
3.2.2 NAVIGATING THROUGH SETUP-LEVEL
Each function has a unique menu-number, which is displayed below the SETUP indicator at the
bottom of the display. The menu-number is a combination of two figures, e.g. 1.2. The first number
indicates the function-group and the second number indicates the function. Additionally, each
function and function-group is expressed with a keyword.

Use the control panel to navigate through SETUP-level
PROG-key
When a function is selected, this key is used to start the programming sequence.
When only a function group is selected (and no function), this key is used to scroll back
a function group (e.g. 3 →2 →1 →3).
SELECT-key
This key is used to select the next function in the list (e.g. 1 →1.1 →1.2 →1). When
the top of the list is reached, it will wrap around and return to the function group
selection.
CLEAR-key
This key is used to select the previous function in the list (e.g. 1.2 →1.1 →1 →2).
When the bottom of the list is reached, it will return to the function group selection.
When only a function group is selected (and no function), this key is used to scroll to
the next function group. (e.g. 1 →2 →3 →1).
3.2.3 PROGRAMMING SEQUENCE
After selecting a function at SETUP-level, a new value can be programmed using the control panel.
A function either contains a value (a number with optionally a decimal point, e.g. 123.45) or a list
with items (e.g. Disable Enable).
For each function that needs to change, navigate to that function and follow the steps indicated
below. During the programming sequence, the display will deactivate the SETUP indicator and
activate the PROGRAM indicator.
When programming new values, alterations will only be set after the PROG-key has been
pressed to confirm the new value! (STEP 3)
Step 1: Starting the programming sequence
PROG-key
When a function is selected at SETUP-level, this key is used to start the programming
sequence.
Step 2a: Changing a value
SELECT-key
This key is used to increment the selected digit.
When the entered value is out of range, the increase sign or decrease-sign will
be displayed while you are programming. If this value is confirmed by pressing the
PROG-key, the value will be brought within a valid range automatically.
CLEAR-key
This key is used to select the next digit. If a decimal point can be set, this will be
included in the sequence as well (e.g. [decimal point] →digit 1 →digit 2→digit 3 →
[decimal point].
SELECT-key + CLEAR-key
The combination of the SELECT-key and CLEAR-key is used to select a negative
value. When a value can also be entered as a negative number, pressing the SELECT-
key and CLEAR-
Step 2b: Changing the selected item in a list
SELECT-key
This key is used to select the next item in the list (e.g. Disable →Enable).
At the end of the list, the selection will wrap around to the first selection.
CLEAR-key
This key is used to select the previous item in the list (e.g. Enable →Disable ).
At the bottom of the list, the selection will wrap around to the last selection.
Step 3: Finishing the programming sequence
PROG-key
During the programming sequence, this key is used to confirm the new value and
return to SETUP-level. To cancel the operation, either press the PROG-key for 3
seconds or wait for 20 seconds: the programming sequence is cancelled and the
former value is reinstated.

3.2.4 RETURNING TO OPERATOR-LEVEL
When all settings are configured correctly, the unit can be returned to OPERATE-level.
Please keep a record of all settings for later reference.
Use the control panel to return to OPERATE-level
PROG-key
In order to return to the operator level, press the PROG-key for three seconds.
When no keys are pressed for 2 minutes, SETUP-level will be left automatically.
3.3 CONFIGURATION SETTINGS
All settings of the F126-P-EG-TP can be set via the control panel.
The following paragraphs give a detailed description of each setting.

This setting is used to select the engineering unit for the indication of the
total, the accumulated total and the pulse output.
When you change the engineering unit, you must recalculate and
reprogram the K-factor for the (accumulated) total. When you recalculate
and reprogram the K-Factor, the history for (accumulated) total is not
correct anymore, because the (accumulated) total is not recalculated. For
future reference, best practice is to make a note of the accumulated total
before you program the recalculated K-Factor.
1.2
DECIMALS
This setting is used to set the amount of digits behind the decimal point for
the (accumulated) total indication.
1.3
K-FACTOR
This setting is used to set the K-Factor for the total. With the K-Factor, the
flowmeter pulse signals are converted to a quantity. The K-Factor is based
on the number of pulses generated by the flowmeter per selected
engineering unit, for example m3. A more accurate K-Factor (more
decimals, as set in decimals K-Factor) allows for a more accurate
operation of the system.
Example 1: Calculating the K-Factor.
The flowmeter generates 2.4813 pulses per liter and the selected unit is
m3. A cubic meter consists of 1000 liter which gives 2.4813 pulses*1000
liter=2481.3 pulses per m3. So, the K-Factor is 2481.3. Enter for the
Flowmeter K-Factor: 24813 and for the flowmeter K-Factor decimals: 1.
Example 2: Calculating the K-Factor.
The flowmeter generates 6.5231 pulses per gallon and the selected
engineering unit is gallons. So, the K-Factor is 6.5231. Enter for the
Flowmeter K-Factor: 65231 and for the Flowmeter K-Factor decimals: 4.

3.3.3 MENU 2 - FLOW RATE
The settings for total and flow rate are entirely separate. In this way, different engineering units can
be used for each e.g. cubic meters for total and liters for flow rate.

FLOW RATE
2.1
UNIT
This setting is used to select the engineering unit for the indication of the
flow rate.
Alteration of the engineering unit will have consequences for operator and
setup values, they will not be automatically recalculated to the value of the
new selected unit. The K-Factor has to be adapted as well; the calculation
is not done automatically.
2.2
TIME
This setting is used to set the time unit for the flow rate calculation. Note
that the flow rate is given in engineering unit/time unit, e.g. liters/minute.
When you change this setting, also recalculate and change the settings for
the analog rate-min and analog rate-max.
2.3
DECIMALS
This setting is used to set the amount of digits behind the decimal point for
the flow rate indication.

K-FACTOR
This setting is used to set the K-Factor for the flow rate. With the K-Factor,

digital filter a more stable but less actual reading can be obtained.
The filter principal is based on three input values: the filter level (01-99),
the last calculated flow rate and the last average value.
The higher the filter level, the longer the response time on a value change
will be. In practice it is best to use trial and error to find the best setting for
your application.
2.7
PERIOD
This setting is used to calculate the flow rate by counting the number of
pulses within a certain time window, for example 1 second. The longer the
time the more accurate the flow rate will be.
This setting does influence the update time for the analog output directly. If
the output response is too slow, decrease the number of pulses.
The shorter the update time, the higher the power consumption of the unit
will be (important for battery powered applications).
3.3.4 MENU 3 - DISPLAY

DISPLAY
3.1
FUNCTION
This setting can be set to display total or rate.
•When 'total' is selected, total is shown with the large digits together
with flow rate with the smaller digits. When SELECT is pressed, the
accumulated total is shown temporarily.
•When 'rate' is selected, only flow rate will be shown with the large
digits together with its measuring unit. When SELECT is pressed, the
total and the accumulated total are shown temporarily.
3.2
LIGHT
The backlight brightness can be adjusted from 0% (off) to 100% (full
brightness) in steps of 20%.
When the F126-P-EG-TP is only loop powered, the backlight is disabled.
An external power supply is required to supply the backlight.

3.3.5 MENU 4 - POWER MANAGEMENT
When used with the internal battery option (type PB/PC), the user can expect reliable measurement
over a long period of time. The F126-P-EG-TP has several smart power management functions to
extend the battery life time significantly. Two of these functions can be set.
4
POWER MANAGEMENT
4.1
LCD NEW
The calculation of the display-information influences the power
consumption significantly. When the application does not require a fast
display refresh rate, it is strongly advised to select a slow refresh rate.
Please understand that NO information will be lost; every pulse will be
counted and the output signals will be generated in the normal way.
At a key press, the display refresh rate will switch to FAST for 30 seconds.
When 'OFF' is selected, the display goes off after 30 seconds after the last
key press. The display temporarily comes on after a key press.
Example battery life-time with a coil pick-up:
•1kHz pulse and FAST update: about 2 years;
•1kHz pulse and 1 sec update: about 5 years.
4.2
BATTERY MODE
The F126-P-EG-TP has two modes: operational or shelf.
After "shelf" has been selected, the F126-P-EG-TP can be stored for
several years; it will not process the sensor signal; the display is switched
off but all settings and totals are stored. In this mode, power consumption
is extremely low.
To wake up the F126-P-EG-TP again, press the SELECT/key two times.
3.3.6 MENU 5 - FLOWMETER

This setting is used to program the pressure unit which is shown to the
operator. This setting does not influence the actual calculations.

SPAN
With this setting, the measurement range of the (0)4-20mA pressure
sensor is determined according the selected measurement unit.
Example Calculating the span for pressure.
The sensor generates the minimum signal (e.g.4 mA) at a pressure of 2.5
bar and the maximum signal (e.g. 20 mA) is generated at 50 bar. Then the
span is 47.5 bar. Enter for Span: "0004750" if decimals for span are two.
7.3
DECIMALS SPAN
Sets the number of decimals applied to the span (Setup menu 7.2)

OFFSET
Calculations are based on absolute pressures. The flow computer must
know the measured pressure at minimum signal. (2.5 bar in above
example)
•When using a gauge type pressure indicator enter an offset to
compensate environmental pressure (e.g. air pressure, 1.013 bar)

here and make sure that the span is set to zero.

CALIBRATE LOW
This setting is used to calibrate the input value for (0)4 mA as the signal
from the pressure sensor might not be exact 4.0 mA (or 0.0 mA) at
pressure zero. This function will measure the real output value at pressure
zero.
Make sure the offered signal is correct before the calibration is executed as
this function has major influences on the accuracy of the system!
After pressing PROG, three settings can be selected:
▪CALIB: with this setting, the input will be calibrated with the actual "(0)
4mA" value. After pressing enter, CAL SET will be displayed as soon
as the calibration is completed. From that moment on, the analog value
must be more than the calibrated value before the signal will be
processed.
▪DEFAULT: with this setting, the factory value is re-installed.
▪CAL SET: to select the last calibrated value.
7.7
CALIBRATE HIGH
This setting is used to calibrate the input value for 20 mA as the signal from
the pressure sensor might not be exact 20.0 mA at maximum pressure.
This function will measure the real output value at maximum pressure.
Make sure the offered signal is correct before the calibration is executed as
this function has major influences on the accuracy of the system!
After pressing PROG, three settings can be selected:
▪CALIB: with this setting, the input will be calibrated with the actual
"20mA" value. After pressing enter, CAL SET will be displayed as soon
as the calibration is completed. From that moment, the analog value
must be less than the calibrated value for a reliable measurement.
▪DEFAULT: with this setting, the factory value is re-installed.
▪CAL SET: to select the last calibrated value.

4 INSTALLATION
4.1 GENERAL DIRECTIONS
•Mounting, electrical installation, start-up and maintenance of this device may only be
carried out by trained persons authorized by the operator of the facility. Persons must
read and understand this manual before carrying out its instructions.
•The F126-P-EG-TP may only be operated by persons who are authorized and trained by
the operator of the facility. All instructions in this manual are to be observed.
•Ensure that the measuring system is correctly wired up according to the wiring diagrams.
Protection against accidental contact is no longer assured when the enclosure cover is
removed or the panel cabinet has been opened (danger from electrical shock). The
enclosure may only be opened by trained personnel.
•Take careful notice of the "Safety rules, instructions and precautionary measures" at the
front of this manual.
The F1-Series can be supplied as suitable for Safe Area or Hazardous Area. This is indicated in the
model code (shown on the product label) by the Type X* designator, with following options:
•Type XX: Suitable for safe area applications only (e.g. F126-P-EG-TP-XX)
Follow the mechanical and electrical installation instructions shown in chapter 4.
•Type XF: Suitable for explosion proof / flame proof applications (e.g. F126-P-EG-TP-XF)
