Fostex D-15 User manual

D-5
The D-5 makes a flexible, easy-to-use, and affordable addition
to any studio setup. Not only does it stand on its own as a full-
featured DAT recorder—with three sampling frequencies, selec-
table quantization, high-quality A/D/A conversion, and more—
but it makes a perfect complement to a Fostex hard disk
recorder, since it can be used as a digital mixdown recorder or
as an archiving machine for backing up hard drive data. True to
Fostex tradition, the D-5 gives you outstanding performance
and flexibility at an undeniably reasonable price.
• Balanced I/O XLR switchable between
+4 and –10 dBu.
•AES/EBU and S/PDIF optical I/O.
•High-Quality A/D and D/A Conversion
1-bit wide-range linear A/D convertor and high-speed pulse-
flow 1-bit D/A convertor for excellent sound quality and
minimal conversion errors.
•No SCMS copy code.
•3 Selectable Sampling Frequencies
48kHz for the highest possible fidelity, 44.1kHz for
CD-quality audio, or 32kHz, for LP mode.
•2 Quantization Modes
16-bit linear (SP mode, for 48 or 44.1kHz) and 12-bit
non-linear (for LP mode at 32kHz).
•Selectable Recording Times
120 minutes in SP mode, and 240 minutes in LP mode.
• Jog/Shuttle Function.
• Infrared Remote control.
D-15
Production DAT Recorder
Quite simply, the D-15 is the lowest priced timecode-capable DAT
recorder available. Combining excellent audio specifications with
features that are necessary to professional sound and video pro-
duction, this machine delivers rock solid performance for the most
demanding of applications—all at an unbelievably affordable price.
•Powerful Interface Capabilities
AES/EBU and Optical I/O, balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA,
9-pin RS-422 connector, plus a GPI 37-pin general purpose
interface connector.
•48 or 44.1kHz Sampling Frequency.
•Built-In Chase Mode Functions.*
•Instant Start without Pre-loading.
•Front-Panel Lockout Function.
•Supports All Frame Rates.*
•Newly Designed Transport
4-motor design with 2 direct-drive motors.
•Standard Parallel Interface
Supports cabled remote control for critical control.
•18-bit, 64x Oversampling D/A and 20-bit
8x Oversampling D/A Conversion.
• Jog/Shuttle Wheel.
*
Model D-15TC adds video reference capability to the standard
D-15, so you can stripe the tape with externally-generated
SMPTE timecode and output LTC or A-Time. It can also convert
A-Time to LTC and reference external Video or Word Clock.
The Model D-15TCR offers the best price-for-performance,
adding RS-422 control (minus Varispeed) to the timecode
capabilities of the D-15TC.
