The D-5 makes a flexible, easy-to-use, and affordable addition
to any studio setup. Not only does it stand on its own as a full-
featured DAT recorder—with three sampling frequencies, selec-
table quantization, high-quality A/D/A conversion, and more—
but it makes a perfect complement to a Fostex hard disk
recorder, since it can be used as a digital mixdown recorder or
as an archiving machine for backing up hard drive data. True to
Fostex tradition, the D-5 gives you outstanding performance
and flexibility at an undeniably reasonable price.
• Balanced I/O XLR switchable between
+4 and –10 dBu.
•AES/EBU and S/PDIF optical I/O.
•High-Quality A/D and D/A Conversion
1-bit wide-range linear A/D convertor and high-speed pulse-
flow 1-bit D/A convertor for excellent sound quality and
minimal conversion errors.
•No SCMS copy code.
•3 Selectable Sampling Frequencies
48kHz for the highest possible fidelity, 44.1kHz for
CD-quality audio, or 32kHz, for LP mode.
•2 Quantization Modes
16-bit linear (SP mode, for 48 or 44.1kHz) and 12-bit
non-linear (for LP mode at 32kHz).
•Selectable Recording Times
120 minutes in SP mode, and 240 minutes in LP mode.

recorder available. Combining excellent audio specifications with
features that are necessary to professional sound and video pro-
duction, this machine delivers rock solid performance for the most

Model D-15TC adds video reference capability to the standard
D-15, so you can stripe the tape with externally-generated
SMPTE timecode and output LTC or A-Time. It can also convert
A-Time to LTC and reference external Video or Word Clock.
The Model D-15TCR offers the best price-for-performance,
adding RS-422 control (minus Varispeed) to the timecode
capabilities of the D-15TC.
