1 General
The profi-air defroster heating DN 125 ensures that the heat exchanger in the profi-air 180 flat ventilation unit is protected
against frost without having to temporarily turn o the supply air fan.
1.1 Introduction
These installation and operating instructions are intended to help you install a fully functional profi-air defroster heating
and properly operate it. We recommend that you read these instructions carefully before you commence installation.
These installation and operating instructions can also serve as a reference for service and maintenance work and
guarantee smooth and ecient operation.
1.2 Safety
If used as intended, the device is safe and reliable to operate. The construction and design are state of the art and comply
with all relevant DIN / VDE regulations and safety provisions. All safety regulations, warnings and notices of these installation
and operating instructions, have to be complied with; non-compliance may result in personal injury and/or damage to the
profi-air defroster heating.

4 Scope of delivery
The profi-air defroster heating DN 125 / 900 W is an air pre-heating device which can be integrated into the fresh air pipe of ventilation
systems (profi-air 180 flat) and which is intended to protect the heat exchanger from freezing condensate. The defroster heating can be
switched on and off through the frost protection control incorporated in the ventilation device. To do so, the electric heater coil must
be connected to the profi-air 180 flat control.
This control ensures that the defroster heating only operates if there is a risk that the cross-flow heat exchanger can freeze.
The profi-air defroster heating DN 125 consists of a galvanised steel-plate housing with an integrated heating spiral. With the help
of the insulation kit included with the delivery, thermal insulation of the defroster heating is provided in order to prevent condensate
development. To insure protection against overheating, a safety temperature monitor (with an automatic reset function) and a safety
temperature limiter (with a manual reset function) are integrated into the terminal box of the defroster heating.

7.1 Installation position
Q The device may be used as a defroster only and must be
installed in the fresh air pipe of the ventilation unit.
Q Please observe the correct flow direction marked by the
arrows when installing the device.
Q The device may only be put into operation when installed,
i.e. with connected air pipes.
Q The defroster heating must be disconnected from the network
for maintenance works (e.g. cleaning of the heating spiral).
6 Safety instructions
7 Installation instructions
Q Exercise caution when cleaning the heating spiral – it may
still be hot – risk of burning!
Q The installation positions specified in the installation inst-
ructions must be strictly adhered to.
Q In case of vertical installation, a non-flammable pipe DN 125
with a minimum length of 300mm must be installed
downstream of the defroster heating.
Failure to comply with the safety instructions can lead
to injury or property damage (e.g. burning).
In case of installation with the electric connection side facing downwards, proper functioning of the safety
temperature limiters cannot be ensured.
The installation of the defroster heating must be executed according to the regulations of the following sections. In addition to the
installation position and flow direction, the regulations for downstream pipelines must be observed. Furthermore, sufficient and secure fas-
tening must be ensured. The fastening material must be supplied on site.
Install the heater coil such that the terminal box faces upwards or sidewards.
Installation with the terminal box facing downwards is not permitted.

7.2 Installation of the fresh air pipe
7 Installation instructions
In case of horizontal installation of the
defroster heating, a flammable pipe /
ventilation unit can be installed
downstream of the heater coil.
In case of vertical installation of the
defroster heating, a non-flammable
pipe with a minimum length of 300 mm
must be connected downstream of the
heater coil. The pipe must be provided
with non-flammable insulation.

Installation / operating instructions – defroster heating profi-air DN 125 11

7.3 Installation of the defroster heating
7.4 Putting into operation
7 Installation instructions
The wireless remote control optionally available for the profi-air 180 flat ventilation unit is
required to put the defroster heating into operation.
The heating spiral must be regularly inspected during maintenance (prior to the beginning of the heating period). The defroster heating or
the ventilation unit must be disconnected from the network for maintenance work. If there is dirt on the heating spiral, it can be cleaned
with a suction nozzle and a vacuum cleaner.
For more information on putting into operation, see the 180 flat
wireless remote control operating instructions.
Do NOT clean the heating spiral with a dry or wet cloth.
After disconnection from the network, the heating spiral may still be hot.
Please allow it to cool sufficiently, otherwise burn injuries may happen.
Electrical connections must be established by authorised and qualified personnel and in the “dead” state of
the ventilation unit only. In addition, applicable local regulations and safety provisions must be complied with.
