POWER & SIM
FTS utilizes two versions of a Microhard modem as a cellular solution for any serial,
Ethernet, or wireless device. When connected to a 4G/HSPA+/LTE/CDMA network, the
modem securely ensures reliable data ow.

OVERVIEW
MICROHARD MODEM MODELS

Connect the cellular modem to the serial device (data logger, RS232
sensor, etc.) via a serial cable.
If connecting to an FTS Axiom Datalogger,
you must congure the FTS Datalogger’s
telemetry port to accept the Microhard
Modem.
From the Datalogger’s Home page select
the Telemetry icon. Select Telem A or B
(corresponding to the port to which the
modem is connected).
Select Dev Type > FTS.

Ensure the SIM card is inserted into the SIM port and both the cellular
modem and peripheral devices are powered up.

CONNECT ANTENNA

Connect your cellular antenna to the available SMA port labeled either
“Main” (BulletPlus) or “Cell” (Verizon).
Connect your GPS antenna to the available SMA port labeled “GPS”.
Conrm the modem is connected to the cellular network (the RSSI
lights will be green). It can take up to two minutes to establish a
connection under normal conditions. BulletPlus Verizon

CONGRATULATIONS
Open a web browser on your PC and enter the device’s local IP
address (default: http://192.168.168.1).
Log in to the Microhard webpage with your credentials.
Username: admin Password: 12345
On the Microhard webpage
navigate to Serial > Settings
and conrm your serial port
conguration settings. The default
local listening port is 9999.
IMPORTANT! If you change the
default port to a new number, you
MUST change your serial rewall
settings to match. Refer to STEP 7.
Connect your desired software package to the remote cellular modem by
entering the IP address noted in Step 6 and Port 9999 or the new port specied
in Step 8.
On the Microhard webpage navigate to Firewall > Rules and conrm the following rewall settings. The serial port
is congured to port 9999 by default.

You should see a
unique address.
Conrm your cellular modem is on the desired network.
Review the “Carrier Information” table.
• “Connection Status” should indicate “Connected”.
• Note the IP address of the modem.
• Conrm the Carrier Information table matches the details expected from the
SIM card.
Connect the ethernet cable between a computer and the
cellular modem’s LAN ports.
CAUTION! DO NOT PLUG INTO THE WAN PORT.
