With your new ho ventilator, working in the
kitchen will e even more fun.
The applian e offers you the following
advantages:
– Kit hen vapours and fats are su ked away
dire tly where they arise.
– One-hand operation ensures high operating
onvenien e.
To ensure that you will be able to use this
applian e in all its diversity, read through
the operating and assembly instru tions
ons ientiously efore operating it for the
first time. The instru tions ontain important
notes on use, installation and maintenan e of
the applian e.
On the following page you will find important
notes on safety and operation. These will serve
to ensure your personal safety and the lasting
value of your applian e.
You will find notes on Page 4 that you ought to
observe efore operating the appliance for
the first time.
Tips and hints in the hapter entitled "Cleaning
and care" will make sure that your applian e will
stay operable and beautiful for a long time.
And now we wish you lots of fun with your
new ho ventilator.

1. Important notes
1.1 For your safety
Damaged appliances must not be operated.
The applian e must only be onne ted by an
authorised spe ialist, paying attention to the
relevant regulations of the power supply ompanies
and the regional onstru tion regulations.
Also o serve the assem ly instructions!
Connecting ca les must not ome into onta t
with hot ooking surfa es.
Hazardous or explosive su stances and vapours
must not be extra ted!
The user is responsi le for expert use and the
perfe t ondition of the applian e.
Never operate the appliance without a grease
filter.
Only ever operate the appliance under
supervision. The applian e is intended solely for
use in the household and must not be put to any
other uses.
Caution! Over-greased filters are a fire risk! Only
ever deep-fry next to the applian e under onstant
supervision. Pay attention to leaning the grease
filter on a regular basis.
Do not clean the appliance with a steam leaning
apparatus or with water pressure be ause this
poses a risk of short- ir uits.
Isolate the appliance from the mains during every
maintenan e operation. To do this, remove the
mains plug or a tuate the orresponding fuse. If the
mains plug is not a essible, the applian e must be
deenergised by means of the domesti installation
fuse.
In the event of malfunctions, first of all he k
the household fuses. If the malfun tion has nothing
to do with the power supply, please onta t your
spe ialist dealer or your responsible Gaggenau
after-sales servi e. Repairs must be arried out by
authorised spe ialists, thus ensuring ele tri al
safety.
No warranty claims an be lodged in the event
of damage aused by failure to observe these
instru tions.
Fire risk! It is not permitted to flambé meals next
to a hob ventilator that is in operation.
You may only ever use a grill or a deep fryer at
the same time as the hob ventilator if it is under
onstant supervision.
This will involve a fire risk!
Do not place any o jects on the applian e; this
will have a detrimental effe t on fun tioning.
If you have installed the hob extra tors VL 040/041
next to a gas applian e, ea h has to be fitted with
an air baffle LS 041 while ooking. The air baffle not
only improves the air flow of the extra tor next to a
gas applian e, but also prevents a flame whi h has
been set to a low level from being extinguished.

1.2 Operating for the first time
Before operating the applian e for the first time,
please pay attention to the following notes:
– Conscientiously read through the operating
and assembly instru tions before operating the
applian e for the first time.
– The rating plate for this applian e is in luded
with the instru tions on a separate sheet. Store
the rating plate in the same lo ation as your
operating and assembly instru tions. You need
the rating plate for possible damage and warranty
ases.
– Remove the packaging from the applian e and
dispose of it properly. Pay attention to the fa t that
there are a essories in the pa kaging.
Keep pa kaging elements out of the rea h of
hildren!
–Thoroughly clean the appliance before using it
for the first time. (see hapter entitled "Cleaning
and are")
–Before operating the appliance for the first
time, he k that the mains onne tion is in proper
working order.

Switching off
Note:
VL 040 an only be operated in ombination with
VL 041 or VL 051. All operator inputs apply to both
hob ventilators. That is to say: if you set the ontrol
knob to level 1, both hob ventilators are operated
at level 1.
Switching on
Turn the ontrol knob to the right to the position you
require (0-2).
Switching off
Turn the ontrol knob to the left to the 0 position.

Caution:
Avoid sharp and austi leaning agents as well as
brushes and abrasive leaners.
The stainless steel frontages must only be
leaned with a soft loth.
Do not use any abrasive sponges either. Use
ommer ially available window leaner and apply it
to a soft, moist loth. Do not spray it onto the swit h
panel.
Clean the ventilation grille with a moist loth
and detergent solution. You should not lean the
ventilation grille in a dishwasher be ause spots
may appear on the ventilation grille.
Grease filter cleaning
You an lean the metal grease filters in a
dishwasher at a maximum temperature of 65°C.
Pla e the grease filter in the dishwasher with the
opening pointing down to ensure that no food
remainders will stay on it.
Proceed as follows: (fig. 8)
– Deta h the ventilation grille.
– Turn up the two retaining wires and deta h the
grease filter from the applian e.
Insert in the reverse order.
First disconnect the appliance from the mains
before arrying out any repairs.
In the event of malfunctions, first of all he k
the household fuses.
If the power supply is in proper working order,
but the applian e is nevertheless not fun tioning,
then please onta t your spe ialist dealer or your
responsible Gaggenau after-sales servi e. Spe ify
the applian e type. To this end, have a look at the
rating plate, whi h is in luded with the operating
and assembly instru tions.

Repairs must only be arried out by authorised
spe ialists, thus ensuring the safety of the
applian e. Improper tampering will render all
warranty laims null and void.

The grease filters must be leaned on a regular
basis (at the latest after 30 hours of operation).
Overgreased filters are a fire risk!
