Translation of the original instructions.
For safety reasons, children and
young people under 16 as well
as anyone who is not familiar with
these operating instructions should not
use the product. Persons with reduced
physical or mental abilities may use the
product only if they are supervised or
instructed by a responsible person. Chil-
dren must be supervised to ensure that
they do not play with the product. Never
operate the product when you are tired, ill
or under the influence of alcohol, drugs or
medicine.
Intended use:
The Valve Boxes are intended for installing GARDENA
Watering Valves underground.
Control Technology of Watering Valves:
The watering system can be controlled in the following
ways:
Watering Valve Art. 1251 (9 V):
• Direct valve programming with the Programming Unit
Art. 1242 is ideal for decentralised valve installation with
Controller Art. 1250.
Watering Valve Art. 1278 (24 V)*:
• Up to 12 Watering Valves can be controlled via cables
using the Watering Controller 4040 Art. 1276/
Expansion Module 2040 Art. 1277 and the
Connection Cable Art. 1280.
* Only available on selected markets.
You must read and comply with the Operating Instructions
provided by GARDENA to ensure that you use the Valve
Box properly.
1. SAFETY
IMPORTANT!
Read the operator’s manual carefully before use and
keep for future reference.
Winter Storage:
vRead the notes on safety in the
Valve Box
vBefore the frost period starts:
see point 4. STORAGE
To put into storage/Winter storage.
vPlease observe the notes on safety in the operating
instructions.
DANGER!
This product makes an electromagnetic field while it oper-
ates. This field may under some conditions interfere with
active or passive medical implants. To decrease the risk
of conditions that can possibly injure or kill, we recom-
mend persons with medical implants to speak with their
physician and the medical implant manufacturer before
you operate the product.
DANGER!
Small parts can be easily swallowed. There is also a risk
that the polybag can suffocate toddlers. Keep toddlers
away when you assemble the product.
GARDENA Valve Box V1/V3
2. ASSEMBLY
Installing a Central Filter:
CAUTION!
We recommend installing the GARDENA Central
Filter Art. 1506/1510 upstream of the watering
system to protect the components of the water-
ingsystem from dirt and contamination. If you are
using dirty water, a filter must be installed
upstream of the watering system.

General assembly instructions:
vGrease all O-rings and metal securing clips
before assembly! Push an O-ring over each end
of the telescopic pipe 8/w.
Install the Valve Box [Fig. A1]:
1. Install the Valve Box 1on a bed of coarse gravel s
approx. 20 cm x 30 cm x 10 cm (V1)/
30 cm x 35 cm x 10 cm (V3).
This ensures proper drainage of the box.
2. Install the valve box with the top edge of the box at
ground level.
This avoids damage when mowing the lawn.
When installing the Valve Box, the lid must be
closed. The adjacent earth may only be carefully
compacted to prevent the walls getting pressed
in and the lid from then no longer closing com-
pletely.
If necessary, support walls from inside
with spacers when compacting earth.
Connect GARDENA connecting pipes to valve box
[Fig. A2]:
Only for Valve Box V3:
The distributor 5has 3 inputs. The Valve Box can there-
fore be connected to the watering system in various ways.
1. Screw cover caps 4onto the unused inputs.
2. Insert the distributor 5into the Valve Box from the
outside and secure to the Valve Box from the inside
using the two nuts 2
3. Screw the drain cap 6onto the distributor 5.
For Valve Box V1 and V3:
vPush the connections 7into the Valve Box from the
inside and secure to the Valve Box from the outside
using the two nuts 2.
The GARDENA Connecting Pipes 25 mm Art. 2700/
2701 and 32 mm Art. 2704 / 2705 can be connected
using the GARDENA Connectors 25 mm Art. 2762
and 32 mm Art. 2768.
V3: Connect 2 Valve Boxes V3 [Fig. A3]:
Via the 1"x1"-Connector Art. 2758-00.900.01,
2 Valve Boxes V3 can be connected.
v Screw the 1"x1"-Connector 3onto the open distributor
outputs of the two Valve Boxes V3.
V3: Close open distributor output [Fig. A4]:
If you are only installing 2 valves in a Valve Box V3, the
open distributor output must be sealed with an end cap.
1. Push the short telescopic pipe 8into the open
distributor output.
2. Insert the securing clip 9into the holes of the
distributor output 0.
The flushing pipe 8is fixed in place.
3. Screw the cover cap qonto the short telescopic
pipe 8.
Assemble the Irrigation Valve 9 V/24 V
(Art. 1251/1278) [Fig. A5]:
CAUTION!
Flow direction!
v Pay attention to the flow direction (arrows)
when assembling the Irrigation Valve e.
1. Push the long telescopic pipe wall the way into the
nipple on the outlet-side 7.
2. Screw the short telescopic pipe 8into the inlet side of
the Irrigation Valve e.
The arrows on the Irrigation Valve point in the flow
direction.
3. Push the Watering Valve with the short telescopic
pipe 8into the distributor output 0.
4. Screw the long telescopic pipe winto the outlet-side
of the Irrigation Valve e.
5. Insert the securing clip 9into the holes of the
distributor outputs 0and the connections 7.

When you open the box lid ryou can see the flow
direction marked by the arrows on the Irrigation
Valve e.
Connecting Watering Valves 24 V (Art. 1278)
[Fig. A6/A7]:
You can connect up to 12 Watering Valves Art. 1278
(24 V) to the Watering Controller 4040 Art. 1276 using
the Connection Cable Art. 1280 in combination with
the expansion module 2040 Art. 1277.
1. Guide the connection cable tinto the side of the
Valve Box V3 and attach to the terminal strip z
according to the outputs of the watering controller
(refer to colour of cable).
2. Screw one cable from each valve into the connections C.
3. Screw the other cable from each valve into the connec-
tions 1–6according to the routing of the cables.
4. If you are using 2 Valve Boxes of model V3, connect the
second Valve Box V3 to the first Valve Box V3 using the
connection cable.
5. Push the protective cap uover the terminal strip z
and tighten both screws i.
Please refer to the operating instructions for the
Programming Unit Art. 1242 for instructions on how
to connect the Watering Valves Art. 1251 (9 V) to
the Controllers Art. 1250.
Locking the box lid [Fig. A8]:
vLock the box lid rby turning the closing lever o90°.
The lid is then protected when the lawn is mowed.
The box lid rcan be locked to protect it against theft.
vOverlap the holes pin the Valve Box and box lid and
lock using a small padlock or locking chain
– or –
Alternatively, you can protect the lid ragainst theft
using a metal screw (4.2 x 19 mm).

3. OPERATION
Adjusting valve control [Fig. O1]:
Fully Automatic Control:
vSet selection lever ato “AUTO/OFF”.
Program-controlled water flow to watering system
according to programming (using Controller/
Radio Receiver or Watering Controller).
An automatically opened valve cannot be closed
manually.
Manual Control:
vSet selection lever ato “ON”.
Permanent water flow, independent of the program-
ming.
4. STORAGE
To put into storage/Winter storage [Fig. O1/S1]:
The following precautions must be taken
– especially before the frost period starts
– to prevent damage to the Irrigation Valves and
the entire watering system:
1. Close the water tap and disconnect the hose from the
GARDENA Water Connection Point Art. 1594/
2795.
This allows air to flow freely.
2. If the watering system is directly connected to the
water tap, turn off the water supply and open the
venting tap.
3. Set the selection lever aof all valves to the “ON”
position.
4. Draining the Irrigation Valve/Valve Box.
There are various ways to drain the system:
– Drain the system by blowing out the water
with compressed air.
– Remove all the valves and store in a place
protected from frost.
– With Valve Box V3, open the draining cap 6
and empty the supply line. You can leave the
Watering Valves in the Valve Box provided
that the lines leading from the Valve Box V3
are drained via a draining valve (e.g. in the
GARDENA Pop-up Sprinklers) that is installed
lower than the Watering Valve.
5. Remove the battery from the Control Unit/
Radio Receiver.
6. Lock the box lid (see 2. ASSEMBLY,
Locking the box lid).
Disposal:
(in accordance with RL2012/19/EC)
The product must not be disposed of to normal
household waste. It must be disposed of in line
with local environmental regulations.
IMPORTANT!
Dispose of the product through or via your municipal
recycling collection centre.
5. TROUBLESHOOTING

8. SERVICE/WARRANTY

Warranty:
In the event of a warranty claim, no charge is levied to you
for the services provided.
GARDENA Manufacturing GmbH offers a 2-year warranty
for this product (from the date of purchase) if the product
has been used exclusively for private purposes. This manu-
facturer’s warranty does not apply to used products pur-
chased from a secondary market. This warranty includes
all significant defects of the product that can be proved to
be material or manufacturing faults. This warranty is fulfilled
by supplying a fully functional replacement product or by
repairing the faulty product sent to us free of charge; we
reserve the right to choose between these options. This
service is subject to the following provisions:
• The product was used for its intended purpose as per
the recommendations in the operating instructions.
• Neither the purchaser nor a third party has attempted to
repair the product.
• Only original GARDENA spare and wear parts were used.
Normal wear and tear of parts and components, optical
changes, as well as wear parts and consumables, are
excluded from the warranty.
This manufacturer’s warranty does not affect warranty
entitlements against the dealer/retailer.
If problems arise with this product, please contactour
Service department. In the event of a warranty claim,
please send the defective product together with a copy
of the purchase receipt and a description of the defect,
sufficiently stamped, to the GARDENA service address
on the back page.
