How to Remove Packaging Tape
The safest way to remove the packaging tape adhesive
on new appliances to assure no damage is done to the
finish of the product, is an application of a household
liquid dishwashing detergent, mineral oil or cooking
oil. Apply with a soft cloth and allow to soak. Wipe
dry and then apply an appliance polish to thoroughly
clean and protect the surface.
NOTE: The plastic tape must be removed from the
chrome trim on cooktop parts. It cannot be removed
if it is baked on.
Write down the model and

clothing. Proper relationship of cookware to
surface unit will also improve efficiency. See the
Cookware Tips section of the guide.
Q
Never try to move a pan of hot fat,
especially
a deep fat fryer. Wait until the fat is cool.
●
Only certain types of glass, glass/ceramic,
earthenware or other glazed containers are
suitable for cooktop surface; others may break
because of the sudden change in temperature.
●
To minimize the possibility of burns,
ignition of
flammable materials and spillage, the handle of a
container should be turned toward the center of
the cooktop without extending over nearby
surface units.
●
Always keep combustible wall coverings,
curtains or drapes
a safe distance away from
your cooktop.
●
Always keep dish towels, dish cloths, pot
holders and other linens
a safe distance away
from your cooktop.
●
Do not leave paper products, cooking utensils
or food on the cooktop when not in use.
Q
Avoid scratching the glass cooktop.
The cooktop can be scratched with items
such as sharp instruments, rings or other
jewelry and rivets on clothing.
●
Never use the glass cooktop surface as a
cutting board.
●
Do not place or store items on top of the glass
cooktop surface when it is not
in
use.
●
Be careful when placing spoons or other stirring
utensils
on glass cooktop surface when it is in use.
They may become hot and could cause bums.
●
Avoid heating an empty pan.
Doing so may
damage the cooktop and the pan.
●
Do not allow water, other liquids or grease
to remain on the cooktop or control panel.
●
Always heat fat slowly, and watch as it heats.
●
Clean only parts listed in this guide.
4
●
Do not stand on the glass cooktop.
●
Keep cooktop clean and free of accumulation
of grease or
spillovers
which may ignite.
●
To minimize the possibility of burns,
always be
certain that the controls for
aII
surface units are at
the off position and the entire glass surface is cool
before attempting to clean the cooktop.
●
Always keep wooden and plastic utensils
and canned food
a safe distance away from
your cooktop. They may become hot and could
cause bums.
●
Never heat unopened food containers.
Pressure buildup may make container burst
and cause injury.
●
Teach children not to play with controls or any
other part of the cooktop.
●
Always turn the surface units off before
removing the cookware.
●
Keep an eye on foods being fried at high or
medium high heats.
●
When flaming foods are under the hood, turn
the fan off. The fan, if operating, may spread
the flame.
●
Foods for frying should be as dry as possible.
Frost on frozen foods or moisture on fresh foods
can cause hot fat to bubble up and over the sides
of the pan.
●
Use little fat for effective shallow or deep-fat
frying.
Filling the pan too full of fat can cause
spillovers
when food is added.
●
If a combination of oils or fats
will
be used
in frying,
stir together before heating, or as fats
melt slowly.
●
Use a deep fat thermometer whenever possible
to
prevent overheating fat beyond the smoking point.
●
Never leave jars or cans of fat drippings on or
near your cooktop.
●
To avoid possible damage to the cooking
surface,
do not apply Cook Top Cleaning Creme
to the glass surface when it is hot.
●
After cleaning,
use a dry cloth or paper towel to
remove all Cook Top Cleaning Creme residue.
●
Read and follow all instructions and warnings
on Cook Top Cleaning Creme labels.

How it Works
Heat travels to the glass surface and then
to
the cookware, so pans must be

to
continue cooking long after it is turned off. Remove the pan from the surface unit

change heat settings as quickly as gas or induction. Electric coils stay hot enough
to continue cooking for a short time after they are turned off.
Pans must be

of ferrous metals (metal that attracts a magnet). Heat is
produced by a magnetic circuit between the coil and the pan. Heats up right away
and changes heat settings right away, like a gas cooktop. After turning the control
off, the glass cooktop is hot from the heat of the pan, but cooking stops right
away.
Heats by direct contact with the pan, so pans must be flat on the

for good
cooking results. Heats up and cools down more slowly than electric coils. The
disk stays hot enough to continue cooking after it is turned off. Remove the pan
from the solid disk if you want the cooking to stop.
Flames heat the pans directly. Pan flatness is not critical to cooking results, but
pans should be well balanced. Gas burners heat the pan
right
away and change
heat settings right away. When you turn the control off, cooking stops right away.

How to Check Pan Performance
Use of correct cookware can affect the cooking
performance and cleaning of your cooktop.
lhe correct cookware reduces the temperature of
the cooktop surface and minimizes the chance of
spillovers
burning onto the cooktop.
You must use pans with perfectly flat bottoms.
Some pans may have curved or rounded bottoms or
may be warped. If you are unsure of the flatness of
your pans you may do this quick test.
Turn your pan upside
down on the countertop,
place
a ruler flat against
the pan surface. The
bottom of the pan and the
straight edge of the ruler
m
u
should fit flush against each other all the way across.
Turn the ruler a
full
360 degrees, checking for any
space between the ruler and the bottom of the pan.
Pans with rounded, curved, ridged or warped bottoms
are not recommended.
Another simple test to determine even heat distribution
across the cookware bottom is to put one inch of water
in the pan. Bring the water to a boil and observe the
location of bubbles as the water starts to boil.
Good flat cookware will have an even distribution of
bubbles over the bottom surface area of the pan.
Bubbles localized in only a portion of the bottom
indicate uneven contact of the pan to the surface unit,
uneven heat transfer or an unsuitable pan.
Use pans that match the diameter of the surface
unit. Cooking performance will not be as good if
the cookware is either smaller or larger than the
surface unit.

HOME CANNING
T~S
.>ots
that extend beyond 1 inch of the surface unit’s
circle are not recommended for most surface cooking.
However, when canning with water-bath or pressure
canner, larger-diameter pots may be used. This is
because boiling water temperatures (even under
pressure) are not harmful to the cooktop surfaces
surrounding the surface units.
Observe the Following Points in Canning
1.
Be sure the canner fits over the center of the
surface unit.
If
your cooktop or its location does not
allow
the canner to be centered on the surface unit,
use smaller diameter pots for good canning results.
2. Flat-bottomed canners must be used. Do not use
canners with flanged or rippled bottoms (often
found in enamelware) because they don’t make
enougt
a long
HOWEVER, DO NOT USE LARGE DIAMETER
CANNERS OR OTHER LARGE DIAMETER POTS
FOR FRYING OR BOILING FOODS OTHER
THAN WATER. Most syrup or sauce mixtures—and
all types of frying—cook at temperatures much higher
than boiling water. Such temperatures could
eventually harm the glass cooktop surfaces.
3. When canning, use recipes and procedures from
reputable sources. Reliable recipes and procedures
are available from the manufacturer of your canner;
manufacturers of glass jars for canning, such as
Ball and Kerr; and the United States Department of
Agriculture Extension Service.
4. Remember that canning is a process that generates
contact with the surface units and take
large amounts of
steam:
To
a~oid
burns
f~om
steam
ime
to boil water. or heat, be careful when canning.
RIGHT WRONG
Flat-bottomed canners are required
for glass cooktops.
NOTE:
If your house has low voltage, canning may
take
longe~
than expected, even
tho~gh
directions
have been carefully followed. The process time will
be shortened by:
(1)
using a pressure canner, and
(2) starting with HOT tap water for fastest
heating of large quantities of water.
CAUTION:
Safe canning requires that harmful microorganisms
are destroyed and that the jars are
sealed
completely.
When canning foods in a water-bath canner, a gentle
but steady boil must be maintained for the required
time. When canning foods in a pressure canner, the
pressure must be maintained for the required time.
After you have adjusted the controls, it is very
important to make sure the prescribed boil or
pressure levels are maintained for the required time.
The cooktop surface units have temperature limiters
that prevent the glass cooktop from getting too hot.
If the bottom of your canner is not flat, the surface
unit can overheat, triggering the temperature limiter
to cycle the unit off for a time. This will stop the boil
or reduce the pressure in the canner.
Since you must make sure to process the canning jars
for the prescribed time, with no interruption in
processing time, you cannot can on any of the cooktop
surface units if your canner is not flat enough.
What is a Temperature Limiter?
Every halogen and radiant surface unit has a
Temperature Limiter. The Temperature Limiter
protects the glass-ceramic surface from getting
too hot.
The Temperature Limiter may cycle the units
off for a time if:
●
The pan boils dry.
●
The pan bottom is not flat.
●
The pan is off center.
●
There is no pan on the unit.

cleaning a standard porcelain finish. To maintain and
protect the surface of your new glass ceramic cooktop
follow these basic steps.
Before you use the cooktop for the first time, clean it
with Cook Top Cleaning Creme. This helps protect
the top and makes clean-up easier.
DAILY CLEANING: Use only Cook Top Cleaning
Creme on Glass Ceramic.
For normal, light soil:
1.
Rub a few drops (less is better) of Cook Top
Cleaning Creme onto the soiled area using a damp
paper towel. Wipe until all soil and creme are
removed. Frequent cleaning leaves a protective
coating which is essential in preventing scratches
and abrasions.
2. Clean the surface with Cook Top Cleaning Creme
after each use.
For heavy, burned on soil:
1.
Apply a
few
drops of Cook Top Cleaning Creme
to the (cool) soiled area.
2. Using a damp paper towel, rub creme into the
burned on area. As with any burned on spill,
this may require some effort.
3. Carefully scrape remaining soil with the razor
scraper. Hold the scraper at a 30° angle against the
ceramic surface.
4. If any soil remains, repeat the steps listed above.
For additional protection, after all soil has been
removed, polish the entire surface with the Cook
Top Cleaning Creme.
5. Buff with a dry paper towel.
NOTE:
●
Using a razor scraper will not damage the surface
if the
30°
angle is maintained.
●
Be sure to use a new, sharp razor scraper.
Do not use a dull or nicked blade.
●
Store the razor scraper out of reach of children.
Special Care:
Sugary spillovers (such
as jellies, fudge, candy
syrups) or
melted plastics
can cause pitting of the
surface of your cooktop (not covered by the warranty)
unless the spill is removed while still hot.
Special
care should be taken when removing hot
substances.
Follow these instructions carefully and
remove the soil while the spill is still hot.
1.
Turn off all the surface units affected by the
spillover.
Remove hot pans.
2. Wearing an oven mitt, hold the
razor

and scrape the hot spill to a cool area”
&
outside the surface unit.
3. With the spill in a cool area, use a dry paper towel to
remove any excess. Any
spillover
remaining should
be left until the surface of the cooktop has cooled.
Do not continue to use the soiled surface unit until all
of the
spillover
has been removed. Follow the steps
under Heavy Soil to continue the cleaning process.
General Information:
As the Cook Top Cleaning Creme cleans, it
leaves a protective coating on the cooktop surface.
This coating helps to prevent build-up
of
mineral
deposits (water spots) and will make future cleaning
easier. Dishwashing detergents remove this protective
coating and therefore make the cooktop more
susceptible to staining.

PRECAUTIONS
●
Most cleaners contain ammonia, chemicals and
abrasives which
can
damage the surface of your
cooktop.
Use only the Cook Top Cleaning Creme
for proper cleaning and protection of your glass
ceramic surface.
● If you slide aluminum or copper cookware across
the surface of your cooktop, they may leave
metal
markings which appear as scratches.
If this should
happen, use the razor scraper and Cleaning Creme to
remove these markings. Failure to remove these
residues immediately may leave permanent marks.
● Water stains (mineral deposits) are removable
using
Cook Top Cleaning Creme or full strength white vinegar.
1?
—
●
If pots with a thin overlay of aluminum, copper
or enamel are allowed to boil dry, the overlay may
bond with the glass ceramic and leave a black
discoloration. This should be removed immediately
before heating again or the discoloration may
be permanent.
● Use of window cleaner may leave an iridescent
film on the cooktop. Cook Top Cleaning Creme
will remove this discoloration.
Read and follow all instructions and warnings
on Cook Top Cleaning Creme labels.

Proper care and cleaning are important so your Follow these directions carefully in caring for your

the glass surface.
Control Knobs
The control knobs may be removed for easier
cleaning.
Before removing the knobs for cleaning,
please
note that the knobs are in the proper OFF position.
When replacing the knobs, check the OFF position
to insure proper placement.
The knob stem has a groove in each side. The groove

up. Check the inside of the
knob and find the molded rib.
Wash the knobs
in soap and water or a vinegar and
lot water solution but do not soak.
Replace the knob by fitting the molded rib inside
the knob into the clear groove on the stem.
Cooktop Frame
Use the same cleaning methods as those described for the glass ceramic top
with the exception of using a scraper. Do not scrape the frame as this will
damage the metal surface.

●
You
must use pans which are absolutely flat. If light can be seen between the
pan bottom and
a
straight edge, the surface units will not transfer heat properly.
●
Pan bottoms should closely match the diameter of the surface unit selected.
●
The glass cooktop surfaces may seem hotter than you are used
to.
This is normal. Make sure flat-bottomed pans are used.
●
Improper cookware being used. Pan bottoms should be
flat,
fairly heavy weight
and the same diameter as the surface unit selected.
●
Difficulty may be in the main distribution panel of your house, caused by a
blown cooktop-circuit fuse, a tripped cooktop-circuit breaker, the main fuse or
the main circuit breaker, depending on the nature of the power supply. If a
circuit breaker is involved, reset it. If the control box uses fuses, the cooktop
fuse (a cartridge-type) should be changed, BUT ONLY BY SOMEONE
FAMILIAR WITH ELECTRICAL CIRCUITS. If after performing one of these
procedures, the fuse blows or circuit breaker trips again,
call
for service.
NOTE: Apartment tenants or condominium owners should ask their building
management to perform this check before calling for service.
●
Cooktop surface unit controls are not properly set, or the wrong control knob
is set for the surface unit you are using.
●
Incorrect cleaning methods have been used, cookware with rough bottoms
—
have been used, or coarse particles (salt or sand) were between the cookware
and the surface of the cooktop. Use recommended cleaning procedures, be sure
cookware bottoms and cookware are clean before use, and use cookware with
smooth bottoms. Tiny scratches are not removable but will become less visible
in time as a result of cleaning.
●
Do not slide aluminum cookware across the surface. Use recommended
cleaning procedure to remove marks.
●
Incorrect cleaning materials have been used, encrusted boilovers or grease
spatters remain on the surface. Use a razor scraper and recommended
cleaning procedure.
●
Use a razor scraper and recommended cleaning procedure.
●
Marks from aluminum and copper pans as well as mineral deposits from water
or food can be removed with Cook Top Cleaning Creme.
●
See the Glass Ceramic Cooktop Cleaning section.
●
Incorrect cookware used. Use only
flat
cookware to minimize cycling.
●
When the knob is at the OFF position, it must be pushed in before it can be
turned. When the knob is at any other position, it can be turned without being
pushed in.
