2. Backup Battery
4 X AA 600mAh batteries are used as the DC backup supply when there is
no electricity or FOR EMERGENCY USE ONLY. In general, lifetime of batteries
will range from 48-96 hours in standby mode and 2 hours in conversation
mode. Battery capacity is represented in terms of bar level, from maximum 4
bars to 0 bars. “Battery Low” and “No Battery” message will be notified when
batteries are out of capacity and disconnected correspondingly.
This phone does not have the charging function. New batteries will require for
replacing the old batteries that are out of capacity.
Switch off the phone before removing or installing batteries.
3. Making a phone call
3.1 Switch your phone on
•Plug in the AC/DC power converter and check the connection is OK
•Insert SIM card, or remove old SIM and insert new SIM into the phone.
•Press and hold the [ON/OFF] key
•Enter your PIN code if asked and press the “K” soft key
Note: The PIN code is a security function that you can switch on or off from
the “Security” features under the “Settings” menu. Use the numeric keypad
to enter the PIN and use the [Clear] soft key to clear the PIN if you have
entered a wrong PIN. You have 3 chances to enter the correct PIN. If you have
entered a wrong PIN 3 times, you will have to enter the PUK code, which is
available from your network operator, to unlock the phone. If the wrong PUK
code is entered 10 times in a row, your SIM card will be locked permanently.
Please consult your network operator for details.
3.2 Switch your phone off
From the idle screen, press and hold the key [ON/OFF] key.
Note: Please do not remove or insert SIM card before press the [ON/OFF]
key. It is allowed only when the phone is powered off.

3.3 Idle screen
After switching on, an idle screen will be displayed as below1 , which
means that the phone is ready for use. If the phone is unable to log onto
the network, it will have no display on the
line where for the network operator's name
is supposed to appear, and the antenna
bar will be reduced to NO signal.

3.4 Making a call
3.4.1 Method 1 - Number entering in normal mode
From Idle screen:
•Pick up the handset
•Enter the phone number using the keypad
•To correct an error entry, press the “Back”right soft key to
delete one digit by each press. Or press and hold it to delete
all the numbers.
•Press “Call”left soft key to dial the number or number will be
dialed automatically in 4 seconds.
•You will hear via the handset2
•After the call, press [CLEAR] key or select the “End Call”from
the left soft key “Options”to hang up. Or put down the handset
to hang up.
3.4.2 Method 2 - Number entering in speaker mode
From Idle screen:
•Keep the handset on the base
•Enter the phone number using the keypad
•To correct an error entry, press the “Back”right soft key to
delete one digit by each press. Or press and hold it to delete
all the numbers. This will go back to the idle screen.
•Press “Call”left soft key or the [SPEAKER] key to dial out the
number.
•When press the [SPEAKER] key before entering the numbers,
the number will be dialed out in 4 seconds.
•You will hear via the speaker3
•After the call, press [CLEAR] key or [SPEAKER] key to hang up

3.4.6 Method 6 - by [REDIAL] key
From Idle screen:
•Keep the handset on the base or pick up the handset
•Press the [REDIAL] key will re-dial the last dialled call
•You will hear via the speaker or handset
•After the call, press [CLEAR] key or [SPEAKER] key to hang up
3.4.7 Method 7 - by one touch dialing key [M1] or [M2]
From Idle screen:
•Keep the handset on the base
•Press the left soft key [M1] or the right soft key [M2] will dial
the assigned4number directly.
•You will hear via the speaker3
•After the call, press [CLEAR] key or [SPEAKER] key to hang up
3.4.8 Method 8 - by Short Cut Key [0] to [9]
From Idle screen:
•Pick up the handset or keep the handset on the base
•Long press the number keys [2] to [9] will dial the assigned5
number directly
•You will hear via the handset or speaker
•After the call, press [CLEAR] key or [SPEAKER] key to hang up

For an international call you can enter the “+”for international prefix.
The “+”character will appear if you long press the [*] key. Alternatively,
you can also enter the “00”for the international prefix.
Note: you can make an emergency call “112”even if no SIM card is
inserted or no subscribed network is available.
3.5 Making a second call
You can make a second call while you have one active connection on
phone. To make a second call:
•Enter the number directly while your call is still active and press “Call”
left soft key. The active call will be automatically put on hold.
•Or you can press the “Options”left soft key and select “New Call”
Enter new number or access the phone book to locate the number you
want to dial, and then press the “Call”key.
•If the call is successfully connected, you should see two calls on the
list, one is on hold and one you just dialed is active.
•After the call, press “End”soft key or the [CLEAR] key to hang up6.
The phone will automatically un-hold the held call.
Note: After you have made your second call, you can swap the calls or connect
your active call to the held call to make it a conference call, which act as one
group, you will be able to make another call with the spare connection allowance.
For a call with one active connection and one hold connection, it is allowed
to transfer one of the calls to another terminal. This is the explicit call transfer
feature which is network dependent.
3.6 Receive a call
When receiving an incoming call, the phone rings and incoming call
notification appears on the screen. If the caller can be identified7, the
caller's phone number or the correspondent name (if the number has
been stored in your phonebook) is displayed.
•You can answer the call without pick up the handset and press the
“Answer”soft key or to reject the call, by press the “Reject”soft key.
Answered call will be in speaker mode.
•Alternatively, pick up the handset will answer the call.
•You can adjust the receiver volume during conversation by pressing
the volume keys. Receivervolume will be increased by pressing the
[VOL+] key and will be decreased by pressing the [VOL-] key. Volume
levels are 1-7.
•End the call after conversation by pressing the [CLEAR] key or select
“End Call”from “Options”left soft key.
3.7 During a call
When you have an active call connection, “Options”appears on the left
soft key, press the key to use the ongoing call menu.
•New Call: Make a new call by enter new number or via phonebook
entries
•Hold8: Put an active call on hold
•Unhold: This option will put a held call back to active
•Mute: Temporarily mute the microphone. The caller cannot
hear you
•Un-mute: This option deactivates the mute function
•Phonebook: Consult the phone book menu
•Messages: Send or read a message
•End call: To end the call
3.8 Answer a second call
Your can answer a second call during conversation if you have subscribed
the “Call Waiting”feature from your local network operator. When the
third party call phones in, you will hear a periodic ‘do’or beep sound9
and the screen will show phone number of the caller if caller ID feature
is enabled. You can choose either to answer or reject the third call. If
the third call is answered, the current active call will be held.
3.9 Multiple calls
You can set up a conference call if you have more than one calling party
on line. If you have one active call and one held call you can:
•Swap between the held call and the active call.
•Connect the held call and active call to make a multiparty
conference call.
•Private call: Separate an individual from the main conference call.
•End a call or end all the calls
Once you set up a conference call, the connected parties become
connected as one group and you can still make a new call or receive
an incoming call. By doing this, all parties in the conference will be held.
You can also add the third call into the conference.
Depending on the network service, you can add up to 6 parties into a
conference call. Please note the charging scheme may be different if
you make multiple calls.

3.10 Redial and Reply
The phone will store the last 30 numbers (10 dialed, 10 answered and
10 missed). You can reply or redial these numbers directly. When you
have answered/ dialed/ missed a call which is already on the list, its time
of call and date of call will display under that existing entry. You can
review the “Details”of the call by accessing the “Select”soft key.
If you have missed 3 times a call with the same caller ID, it will only
display one entry with the time record of these calls, instead of displaying
three entries for each of the calls.

•Press the [MENU] key to access the “Call History”list
•Scroll to the “Dialed Calls”,“Missed Calls”or “Received Calls”
•Move to the number by pressing the [Up] / [Down] key and “Select”
•Scroll and press the “Call”soft key to dial the number, or
•Scroll and press the “Details”soft key to view the details and time of
calls, or
•Scroll and press the “Save”soft key to store the number, or
•Scroll and press the “Delete”soft key to delete the record, or
•Scroll and press the “Clear List”soft key to clear the list

3.11 Speed Dial
If you have stored phone numbers into the phone or SIM, you can assign
a key from “2”to “9”to a frequently used number as “Speed Dial”key.
You can set up this feature by press the [MENU] key and scroll to
“Settings > Call Settings > Short Cut Key”Only [2] - [9] keys are
reserved for quick dial assignment from the phonebook list or new number
entered. [1] key is pre-assigned for the voice mailbox, and key [0] key
is pre-assigned for the <space> character, which cannot be changed.
Simply long-press the assigned key, the phone will dial the corresponding
number. If you long-press a key which has not been assigned any phone
number, it will bring up a notification message “No shortcut key”on the
screen. In this status, you can assign this key as speed dial by select
the soft key label “Assign”or select “Back”to exit back the idle screen.
4. Using Your Phone
From the idle screen you can press the [MENU] key to enter the main menu.
By navigating through all categories using the [UP] / [DOWN] and [LEFT /
RIGHT SOFT] keys, you will be able to customize your phone, or access all
the GSM functions equipped in it. The menu labels and soft keys labels on
the screen will provide instructions for what you have to do.
Main categories of the menu are divided into:
•Messages
•Call Divert
•Call History
•Phonebook
•Sound Setup
•Setting
Details of the phone menu operation are described as below.
4.1 Messages
Each message is a short text with no longer than 160 alphanumeric
characters. In this menu, you can send or receive a text message. It is
done by “Create”a message for sending or receives a message in the
“Inbox”.“Message Center”number, “Validation Period”and “Delivery
Note”function can be set in “Message Set Up”. Other set up includes
the “Voice mail”number for calling the voice mail message center.
4.1.1 SMS
Create SMS
You can send a new SMS according to the following procedures:
•Select “Create”and start entering message or select “Options”
to “Insert Quick Text”
•Select “Options”to “Send”10 out the message or “Save to
Drafts”for later use.
•Before send out the message, select “Options”and enter a
“New Number”of message recipient, or pick a number from
the “Phone Book”list.
•If message is success in “sending”the screen will display “sent”
•Press “Back”to exit or continue to “Create”another message
or press [CLEAR] key exit to the idle screen directly.

10 Message cannot send out if it contains nothing. And “No Msg Content”will be displayed on
the screen.

Read SMS
You can read new received messages according to the following
procedures:
•If a certain numbers of Xnew messages are received, the screen
will be show an message icon on the top row and display
“X Message(s) Received”
•Select the message to be “Read”or “Dismiss”
•Press “Read”soft key to read the message or press “Dismiss”
to read it later
•The received messages will appear in a list of chronological order
•After reading a new or old message, you can choose to:
i. “Delete”the message permanently, or
ii. “Reply”a message to the sender, or
iii. “Forward”the message to other mobiles or data terminals, or
iv. “Save To Drafts”, save the message as “Drafts”for future
use, or
v. “Call Sender”, make a voice call to the message sender
directly, or
vi. “Save Number”, save the sender number in the phonebook
•An old message can be read by press the [MENU] in idle screen
and scroll to “Messages > Inbox > SMS List”. After the
reading the old message, you can perform the same functions
as mentioned above.
Note: For a common SIM card, it can store up to 30 or 40 messages.
Once the storing space is used up, or, if one or more messages have
just arrived and filled up the “Inbox”the message full icon will be
displayed. After that, you will not be able to receive any more SMS
until you have deleted one or more of the old messages to free the
SIM card memory.
Drafts
Draft occupy SIM card memory. You can create a message and
save it as draft for later use. Draft messages are located at
“Messages > Drafts > Draft message(s)”. You can choose to
delete the draft message, send it to another mobile or edit before
it is saved or sent.
Message Setup
The following items have to be set before using the functions of
voice mail and SMS.
•Message Centre - You must enter the message centre number11
before you can send SMS. This number is provided by your
service provider.
•Validity Period - If you are not available (e.g. phone is power
off, out of radio coverage or SIM card memory is full), new
received SMS will store in the message center until timeout of
the validity period. There are different options of validity period
for your selection : 1 hour, 6 hours, 12 hours, 1 day, 3 days,
1 week or maximum time. If timeout happens, the message
center will clear your messages.
•Delivery Note - If this function is set to “On”you will receive
delivery note of the SMS, that you have sent before. Delivery
note messages occupy SIM card memory. Reading of them
follows the same procedures as reading SMS.
4.1.2 Voice Mail
This feature allows you to enter your mail box number. If this
number bas been input and saved already, you will be able to
call your voice mailbox simply by long-press the [1] key.
4.2 Call Divert
This feature allows you to forward a call to a preset number in the
following conditions:
•Forward all calls unconditionally
•Forward a call if no reply
•Forward a call if busy
•Forward a call if not reachable
In each of the above condition, you can activate (“On”) or deactivate
(“Off”) independently or check the current status by the “Status”option.
You can cancel all of the set conditions by the “Cancel All”function,
instead of cancel each condition one by one.
4.3 Call History
You can review the dialled, answered and missed calls on this menu.
Under each category, up to 10 different callers will be listed. When you
have answered/ dialed/ missed a call, if the number of the call is already
on the list, its time of call and details will be go under that existing entry,
you can review the details and time of the call by accessing the “Select”
soft key. You can also store the caller or calling number, delete the
number or clear the list.
•Note: You can also access the missed call list by pressing the [UP] key when
the phone is in idle mode. This will be listed all together in the same fashion
as in menu “Call History > Missed Calls”.

You can press the “Select”soft key to reply/redial, save, delete or check
the details and time of the number.
Call Meter
Press [METER] key will display call time information in idle screen. It
registers both the “Latest Call Time”and the “Total Call Time”. It shows
the duration of both your incoming and outgoing calls in hours, minutes
and seconds. You can reset the meter by scroll to “Reset Call Meter”
under the “Call History”menu.
4.4 Phonebook
You can store phone numbers and their corresponding names in the SIM
card or in the Phone memory. The Phone memory can hold up to 300
entries12. Depending on different SIM suppliers, a SIM card can hold
up to 250 entries. You can quickly go into the phone book browser by
pressing the [DOWN] key in idle mode or conversation mode.
4.4.1 Search a name
When you are in the “Search”menu, you can simply enter the
first letter of the name you wish to find in the search field, and
then press “Search”soft key, it will list out all the name beginning
with the letter you entered. You can also enter the full name, so
the list will jump to that particular name after you press the
“Search”soft key.
If you press “List”soft key before you have entered any letter,
the phone book will list out all the entries by their alphabetical
order from A to Z.
You can also access the list of names using the [DOWN] keys
from the idle screen. When in the list, you can also reduce the
number of key presses, by pressing the key associating the first
letter of the name you are looking for.
For example, if you want to find a name “Heidi”you have to press
the key [4] twice, then the list will jump to the first name starting
with “H”you can then scroll through the list by the [UP] or [DOWN]
key to find the name “Heidi”.
Once you have found the name from the list, you can press
“Details”soft key to view the number. After that, you can press
“Options”soft key to make a call, send a message, edit the
record or delete the record.
Make a call
If you press soft key “Select”to make a call, it will start the
dialing.
Send SMS
If you press soft key “Select”to send messages, it will lead you
to the message editor. Detailed instruction on how to compose
a message found in “Text Editor”&“Message”section.
Edit the entry (name or number)
If you press soft key “Select”to edit the entry, you will allow to
change the name and number of the entry.
Delete
If you press soft key “Select”to delete the entry, that record will
be erased from the Phone Book or SIM memory permanently.
4.4.2 List
If you are browsing your contact entries from “Phone Contact”
or “SIM Contact”, once you have found the name, you can press
“Options”soft key to make a call, send SMS, edit the record or
delete the record. Corresponding operation is same as mentioned
above in section 4.4.1 Search a name.
4.4.3 Add Number
You can add a number from the “Phone book”menu. From “Add
Number”menu In the “Phone Contacts”, enter the number into
the type field, then press “OK”soft key will lead you to enter the
name, when you are done with the name entry, press “OK”.
If you want to create an entry in SIM memory instead, choose
“SIM Contacts”from the main menu of Phone book, then “Add
Number”you then just have to enter the number and then name
to create the entry.
Each phone memory can hold a telephones number up to 19
digits, including the + sign. The maximum English character in
the name field is 15.
4.4.4 Copy
You can copy the contact entries from the SIM memory to the
phone memory or vice versa. You can either copy them all at
once, or one by one.
If your contact size is larger than the memory size of your
destination, you will not be able to perform the “Copy All”or
“Copy one by one”correctly, and an error message “Insufficient
Memory”will be displayed.
Also because of the different format between SIM card and phone
memory, the records copied from phone memory to SIM memory
may be different; content longer than the SIM capacity will be

shortened, such as, if the name stored in phone memory has 20
characters, but after being copied to SIM memory, it could be
shortened to 14 characters in SIM memory.
4.4.5 Memory Status
By using this feature, you will be able to check the memory usage
of your Phone Contacts and SIM Contacts.
4.4.6 Delete All
You can choose to delete all the Phone Contacts or SIM Contacts
permanently.
4.5 Sound Set Up
In this menu, you can set up the ring tone, ringer volume, alert, keypad
tone and speaker volume. Corresponding set up options are tabulated
as below:
4.6.2 Format Time & Date
You have the following options to format the time and date:
•Display date in different formats.
•Display digital clock in 12 or 24 hours format.
Note: The clock will still run even if the phone is switched off. However,
the clock will be reset if the AC is out of supply and batteries are
drained.
4.6.3 Call Settings
You can select the followings in this menu:
•Short Cut Keys
•One-Touch Dial
•Auto Redial
•Line in Use
•Hide ID
•Call Waiting

Short Cut Keys
[2] to [9] keys can be assigned as one of the following functions.
Function is activated directly by long pressing the key.
•Speed Dial14
•Write Message
•Switch to L1
•Switch to L2
•Received Messages
•Answered Calls
•Missed Calls
You can set the short cut function of these keys as “Not In Use”.
One-Touch Dial
In idle screen, soft keys [M1] &[M2] are reserved for the function
of one touch dial. The dial number of [M1] &[M2] can set by a
new number or number selected from the phone book list. You
can select to disable this function as “Not In Use”.
Auto Redial
If auto redial is turned on, your phone will continually call a number
up to 10 times if the first call is not made successfully (e.g. network
busy or calling party busy).
Note: this service is network dependent. For details, please contact
your network operator.

4.6 Settings
The Settings menu allows you to customize your phone. This includes:
•Set time and date
•Format time and date
•Call settings
•Display contrast
•Security settings
•Factory reset
4.6.1 Set Time & Date
Set the time and date when you use your phone in the first time
or when the clock is reset13. The time and date will be displayed
on the idle screen. 13 In this status, the default date & time is Year 2005, 1 January, 00:00

Line In Use (Subscription dependent)
This phone is equipped with Alternate Line Service, which means
there are 2 lines you can have in a SIM card, and you will be able
to choose between lines to use when making an outgoing call.
When needed, just select Line 1 or Line 2 before you make an
outgoing call, the call ID displayed on the recipient’s phone will
be your selected phone line. Incoming call will not be affected
by choosing line 1 or line 2. Your SIM will set to line 1 on default.
Please consult your network operator for this feature.
Caller ID15 (Subscription dependent)
In making outgoing call or incoming call, the number of caller will
appear in the LCD. If the caller number matched with the content
of the phone book (SIM or internal), the name of the caller
will appear instead of the number. Same rule will apply to the
outgoing SMS and incoming SMS. This will check at least the
last 9 digits.
Hide ID (Subscription dependent)
Select to display or hide your number when making an outgoing
call.
Call Waiting (Subscription dependent)
You can turn on or turn off the call-waiting feature of your phone
Select Network
If your phone is roamed to another network or your SIM card
supports multiple networks registration, you can manually register
to an available network.
•Automatic: This option allows the phone to select the network
automatically
•Manual: This option allows you to choose the available network
•Frequency Band: This option allows you to choose the dual
band GSM900/1800 or PCS1900 network. Once you have
selected the band option, the phone will normal reset, search
and camp on the network selected.
4.6.4 Contrast
There are 3 levels of LCD contrast. You can select a level for
viewing under different environment.
4.6.5 Security Settings
The security menu allows you protect your phone from undesired
use.
PIN1 Protection
You will have to enter the PIN 1 upon switch on if this feature has
been turned on.
Important Note: if you enter 3 times the wrong PIN1, the phone will
be locked, and you will be required to enter the unlock code PUK1
to reset the code. If you have entered the wrong PUK1 for 10 times,
your SIM will be lock permanently. Please contact your network operator
for details.
Call Barring
You can limit your phone to make specific calls or bar undesired
incoming calls with this function.
•Outgoing
This allows you to block any outgoing international call / all
outgoing calls / all calls except home call (i.e., during roaming,
the phone can only make phone call to home country) / cancel
all the limits on outgoing calls.
•Incoming
This allows you to block all incoming calls or incoming calls
while your phone is in roaming mode, you can also cancel all
the barring for incoming calls
Note: Call barring password, which is available from the network
operator, please contact your network operator for details.
4.6.6 Factory Reset
This feature allows you to restore the phone to the default
factory setting.
5. Text Editor
This phone is equipped with two text input methods in the editor, they are:
•Predictive English Editor
•Multi-tap English letter input method
•Numeric input
The following sections will guide you through different input methods
5.1 Toggle different input methods
When you are editing message, you can press the key [#] to toggle
different input methods. An icon of its corresponding input method will
appear at the top row to indicate the input method in use.
The following are the icons for each input methods:
Predictive English Editor (both symbols appear simultaneously)
Multi-tap Editor (with auto capitalization)
Number input

5.2 Predictive English Editor
The input method allows you to enter common English words with only
one key press per character. Each key on the keypad represents more
than one letter, for example the key [2] represents “A”“b”or “c”.
For instance, If you want to enter the word “Cat”you have to press only
key [2] and then [2] again and lastly key [8] (which represents characters:
“t”“u”and “v”, the build in linguistic library will determine all the possible
combinations (e.g. cat, act, bat, etc) and all other words started with
these three letters.
All the predicted words will be displayed in the candidate area at the
bottom of the screen. You can then press the [UP] or [DOWN] key to
scroll through the candidates in the RIGHT or LEFT direction respectively,
and pressing the “Options”soft key to confirm the selected candidate.
However if you cannot find the word you need, chance are you mistyped
some characters, or the word you entered is uncommon, which is being
excluded from the dictionary. In this case, you have to switch to multi
tap editor.
You can insert space by pressing the [DOWN] key when there is nothing
appears in the candidate area. Press [CLEAR] soft key to erase a
character you have typed in.
5.3 Multi-tap English Editor
When typing in multi-tap editor, you may have to press the key printed
with your desired characters multiple times depending on the letter order;
press the key once for the first letter or press the key twice for the second
character and so on.
For example, if you want to enter the letter “w”press the key [9] only
once is enough, but if you want to enter the letter “z”you have to press
the key [9] four times in order to get the “z”.
5.4 Number input
In this mode you only press the number button to the desired number.
5.5 Symbol input
When in English editor, some frequently used symbols can be inserted
by pressing the key [1], keep pressing it will insert a different symbol
alternatively. The order of the alternate symbols is shown below:
•Insert a Full stop ( . )
•Insert a Comma ( , )
•Insert an Exclamation Mark ( ! )
