malfunction or breakdown, ground-
ing will reduce the risk of electric
shock by providing apath of least
resistance for electric current. This
appliance is equipped with acord
having an equipment-grounding
conductor and a grounding plug.
The plug must be plugged into an
appropriate outlet that is installed
and grounded in accordance with
all local codes and ordinances.

the chemical action within your
water heater and the gas can
accumulate in the water heater
and/or water pipes if hot water has
not been used for aperiod of two
weeks or longer. HYDROGENGAS
IS EXPLOSIVE.So to prevent the
possibility of damage or injury, if
you have not used hot water for
two weeks or more, or move into a
residence in which the hot water
system may not have been used
for some time, turn on all hot
water faucets and allow them to
run for several minutes before
using any electrical appliance
which is connected to the hot
water system. This will allow any
hydrogen gas to escape. Of course,
since the gas is flammable, do not
smoke or use an open flame or
appliance during this process.

Toget dishes clean and dry you
need hot water.Tohelp you get
water of the proper temperature,
your General Electric dishwasher
automatically senses the temperat-
ure of the water in the wash cycle
and heats it, if necessary,to the
proper temperature. Forgood
washing and drying, the entering
water must be at least 120°ETo

Check your water temperature
with acandy or meat thermome=
W. Turnon the hot water faucet
nearest the dishwasher. Put the
thermometer in aglass and let the
water fill the glass until the tem-
perature stops rising. if the water
temperature is below 120°Eadjust
yourwaterheater.
Helpful hints: If outside tempera-
tures are unusually low or if your
water travels along distance from
heater to dishwasher you may
need to set your heater’s thermo-
stat up. If you have not used hot
water for some time, the water in
the pipes will be cold. Turnon the
hot water faucet at the sink and
allow it to run until the water is
hot. Then start the dishwasher. If
you’ve recently done laundry or run
hot water for showers, giveyour
waterheatertime to recover before
operating the dishwasher.
Youcan helpprevent
spottingwithaIrhlse
agent.
Arinse agent makeswater flow off
dishes quicker than usual.This
lessens water spotting. Makes
drying faster, too.
Rinse agents come in either liquid
orsolidform.Yourdishwasher’s
dispenser (on models so equipped)
uses the liquid form.
Here’s how to fill the rinseagent
dispenser.Unscrewthe cap.
Add the liquid rinse agent until
it just reaches the bottom of the
lip inside the dispenser opening.
Replace the cap. The dispenser
automatically releasesthe rinse
agent into the final rinse water.
Hyou accidentally spill:Wipe up
the rinse agent with adamp cloth.
Don’t leavethe spill in the dish-
washer. It can keep your detergent
from working.

specificallymade for use in
dishwashers.Othertypeswill
cause oversudsing.
Second, check the phosphate
content. Phosphate helps prevent
hard-watermaterials from forming
spots or film on your dishes. If
your water is hard (10grains or
more),your detergent has to work
harder.Detergents with ahigher
phosphate level will probably work
better. If the phosphate content is
low (8.7?40or less),you’ll haveto
use extra detergent with hard
water.
If your water company says your
water is hard, try detergent with a
higher phosphate content.
Your water department can tell
you how hardyourwater is. So
can your rural county agent. Or
your area’s water softener com-
pany.Just call and askthem how
many “grains” of hardness is in
your-w~ter.

Actuaiiy very iittle, Pre-rinsingof
normal food soils is not necessary.
With common senseand a iittle
practice you’ll soon know what
foods to remove.Hereare some
guidelines:
1.Scrape off bones, seeds,skins,
toothpicks and other hard solids. It
is also best to removehard shelled
vegetables, meat trimmings, leafy
vegetables and crusts. Remove
excessive quantities of oil or
grease.
2. Removelarge quantities of any
food. Yourdishwasher has abuiit-
in soft food disposer that pulver-
izes soft food bits and flushes
them away.hcan handle small
amounts of soft foods, but large
amounts of food as soft as
mashed potatoes or applesauce
wili be difficult to handle.
3.Tryto remov@food scraps and
place dishes in dishwasher before
soil has achance to dry and
become hard. Disheswith dried-on
soil are more difficult to wash and
may not ccwneclean in the Normal

The-washtower rises through the center of the
boltom rack during the wish and rinse’portions
of the cycle. Don’t block it or load tall things
next to it. Also, be careful not to let portion of
an item extend through the bottom rack or the
silverware basket such as knives, skewers or

Thetop rack is best for glasses,cups and

Attach the Aerator FkKx3t
Adapter
The special aerator faucet adapter
supplied with your dishwasher
must be assembled to the sink
faucet spout before you can use
yo~r dishwasher.
Howtoconnectthe
1.Pull Unicouple and its hoses
from storage compartment located
at rearof dishwasher and attach it
to the faucet adapter.
The faucet adapter is designed to
fit standard spouts having internal
or external threads. Youwill find
the adapter and two washers in
the “Hardware for Installation”
packet in your dishwasher.
Toinstall faucet adapler, first
removethe old aerator or trim ring
on your faucet spout.
If faucet has external threads:
Insert the thinner of the two
washers into the faucet adapter
and attach it to the faucet spout.
If faucet has internal threads:

Insert both washers into the faucet
adapter and attach it to the faucet
spout.
If the faucetadapter threads do
not match your faucet spout,
your local hardware or plumbing
supply store normally has
additional fittings to adapt your
faucet spout to the special aerator
faucet adapter.

the same sink with your dishwashe~
M.@suggest that you disconnect
the sink sprayattachment if your
sink has oneam’ plug the hole.
2. Attach the Unicouple connector
to the faucet adapter by depressing
collar at the top of the connector.
When Unicouple is all the way up
onto the adapter, releasethe collar.
It will then snap into position to
lock the Unicouple in place.
The Unicouple’s small hose carries
water from the faucet to the
dishwasher. Its large hose carries
drain water to the sink. Be sure
drain hose is pointing toward the
sink bowl drain opening and the
sink drain is open for water that
will drain from your dishwasher. If
your dishwasher drains into adis-
poser,operate the disposer until it
is completely empty before start-
ing the dishwasher.
3. Turn hot water fully on before
starting the dishwasher.
The Faucet-Flo nozzle is part of
the Unicouple connector. Operate
the nozzle by depressing the
pressure release lever on the side
of the Unicouple connector. You
will find the Faucet-Flo nozzle
useful for several reasons:
@It allows you to flush cold water
out of the hot water line so that
you can better regulate your water
temperature.
@It allows you to test the
temperature of the water before
starting your dishwasher.
If youneed freshwater for
personaluse:
Disconnect the Unicouple.
Drawyour fresh water directly from
your faucet.
Do not disconnect the Unicouple
while the dishwasher is operating.

Turnoff the hot water.
2. Releasethe water pressure by
depressing the pressure release
lever.This relieves water pressure
and protects you, and the room,
from severesplashing.
3. Release Unicouple from faucet
by depressing the coliar at the top
of the Unicouple connector.
How to disconnect your
convertible dishwasher
1. Removethe power cord plug
fromthe wall receptacle.
2. DisconnectUnicouplefrom
faucetadapter.
3.Shakeexcesswaterout of
Unicoupleandreturnit and its
hosesto thedishwasherstorage
compartment.
