Installation
1. Findsuitablemountinglocation
TheControlModulemustbelocatedinaneasilyaccessible,drylocationprotectedfromaccidentalsplashes.
ThepowercordsandoptionalRENEW™communicationcableareapproximately6feetinlength,andlevel
sensorcablesareapproximately8feetinlength.EnsurethattheywillreachfromtheControlModuletotheir
respectivelocationsbeforepermanentlymountingthecomponents.
2. MounttheControlModule
Ensurenoelectricalwiresorplumbingresidebehindorwithinthemountingarea.Beverycarefulwhen
drillingordrivingscrewsintoablindmountinglocation!
Usingthesuppliedtemplateasaguide,markanddrilltwopilotholesasindicated.
Insertwallanchorsifnecessary,followingalldirectionsprovidedwiththeanchors.
Drivethemountingscrewsintotheholesoranchors,leavingjustlessthan3/8”inchbetweenthescrewhead
andthemountingsurface.
SliptheControlModuleontothescrewsandgentlypulldownabout1/2"untilfullyseated.Thereshouldbe
no“play”betweentheControlModuleandthemountingsurfacewhenproperlysecured.
3. MounttheLevelSensors
TheLevelSensorShroudsaredesignedsuchthattheycanbeusedinmanydifferentconfigurations.
oLevelSensorscanbeinstalledinside,above,orbelowtheshrouds
oTheShroudCovercanbeinsertedontotherearoftheShroudtocreateahangerthatis
adjustablefortanklipwidthsasnarrowas1/2"oraswideas2‐1/4”
oTheshroudscanbeleftopenorcanbeclosedtopreventcrittersorwaterturbulencefrom
affectingthesensors’performance
oTheshroudswillslideontoandsecurethemselvesonanystandard1/2"PVCpipe,allowingthem
tobepositionedatanyheight
oTheshroudscanbehungfromoneanotherusingtheT‐shapedtabsandslotsonthesides,
allowingmultiplesensorstobepositionedonasingleverticalmemberatslightlydifferent
heights.

theLevelSensor’scordwillcomeoutoftheTOPoftheShroudwhenhungonthetank.
oRemoveanypackingfoamortapefromtheLevelSensor

system),placethe“ROCv™Max”sensorinsideashroudandaffixittothesideofthetopshroud
onthetopoffbin,slightlybelowtheFailsafeLevelSensorifpresent.Thecordonthesensor
shouldcomeoutofthetopoftheshroud.

oIfusingyourSTORM™withtheROCv™module,placethe“ROCv™Min”sensorinsideashroud
andaffixittothesideofthebottomshroud,slightlyabovethe“TopOffBin”sensor.Thecord
onthesensorshouldcomeoutofthetopoftheshroud.
4. ConnecttheComponents
NOTE:ALLWIRESSHOULDHAVEADRIPLOOPTOPREVENTWATERFROMENTERINGTHECONTROLMODULE
PlugintotheControlModulethelevelsensorharnessthatcontainsthe“Aquarium/Sump”and“TopOffBin”
Sensors.Thisharnessplugsintothe6‐pinreceptacleonthelowerleft‐handside(asyouarelookingatthe
backoftheControlModule).
IfusingaROCvmodulewithyourSTORM™system,plugthelevelsensorharnessthatcontainsthe“ROCv
Max”and“ROCvMin”SensorsintotheControlModule.Thisharnessplugsintothe6‐pinreceptacleonthe
lowerright‐handside(asyouarelookingatthebackoftheControlModule).
Ifused,plugtheaquariumorsump’sFailsafeLevelSensorcableintothe2‐pinreceptacleonthelowerright‐
handside(asyouarelookingatthebackoftheControlModule).
Ifused,plugthetopoffwaterbin’sFailsafeLevelSensorintothe2‐pinreceptacleonthelowerleft‐handside
(asyouarelookingatthebackoftheControlModule).
IfcouplingyourSTORM™systemwithaRENEWautomaticwaterchangesystem(seeourwebsiteforwhyyou
wanttodothis!),plugthecommunicationharnesssuppliedwiththeRENEWsystemintothecenter6‐pin
receptacleonthebackoftheSTORM™ControlModule,andplugtheotherendintothecenter6‐pin
receptacleonthebackoftheRENEWControlModule.
5. Attachasegmentofappropriatelysizednon‐toxictubingtoasubmersiblepumpandplacethepumpinthetopoffwater
bin.
6. Routethetubingtotheaquariumorsump.Thetubingshouldbesecuredsuchthattheendofthetubingisjustabove
thehighestwaterlevelintheintheaquariumorsump,sothatthewaterwillrundownthesideofthetankasthewater
leveldrops.Doingsowillimprovewaterflow,reducenoise,andpreventwaterfromsiphoningbackintothetopoffbin.
Cutthetubingtolengthifnecessary.
7. Plugthepump’spowercordintotheACreceptacleonthebottomrightoftheControlModule(whenviewingthefrontof
theControlModule).EnsurethatadriploopisformedtopreventwaterfromenteringtheControlModule!
8. PlugtheControlModule’spowercordintoaGFCI‐protected110VACoutlet.Ensurethatadriploopisformedtoprevent
waterfromenteringtheControlModule!YouarenowreadytouseyourSTORM™System!

GettingtoknowyourSTORM™SpecializedTopOffandReplenishmentModule
1. Afterinstallingyoursystem,pluggingitin,andpreparingyourtopoffwater,turnontheSTORM™systembyusingthe
powerswitchonthefrontfaceoftheControlModule.Whenpoweris“ON,”theswitchwillilluminate.SeveralLED
indicatorsandthedisplaywillilluminatewhenthepowerisonaswell.
2. TherearefouruserinputbuttonsontheControlModule.Startingontheleftandmovingtowardtheright,thebuttons
areAUXILIARYMODE,PAUSE/RESET,andthenINCREASEandDECREASEontheright.Allarelabeledaccordingly.
3. DepressingtheAUXILIARYMODE(AUX)buttontellsthesystemhowtooperatetheauxiliarypoweroutlet(theleft‐most
outlet).Momentarilypressingthebuttonwilltoggletheoutletonoroff.Ifthe“ON”indicatorisilluminated,theoutletis
energizedandaperipheraldevicewillreceivepower.Ifthe“OFF”indicatorisilluminated,noelectricityisbeingdelivered
throughtheoutlet,sothedevicewillbeturnedoff.PressingandholdingtheAUXbuttonforthreesecondswillchange
theauxiliaryoutlet’smodeto“ROCv™”toallowusewiththeoptionalROCv™module.WheninROCv™mode,thesystem
energizesandde‐energizestheauxiliaryoutletbasedtheROCv™module’sLevelSensors’input.PressingtheAUXbutton
againwhileinROCv™modewillchangetheauxiliarymodeto“OFF.”
4. ThedefaultoperationoftheSTORM™moduleistomonitortheLevelSensorinputandturnthepumponandoff
accordingly.ThisoperationcanbesuspendedbypressingthePAUSE/RESETbuttononce.The“MONITORING”and
“TOPPINGOFF”indicatorswillblinktoacknowledgethatthesystemispaused.Pressingthebuttonagainwillresume
normaloperation.Pressingandholdingthebuttonforthreesecondsorlongerwillmanuallyturnthepumponandwill
keepthepumprunninguntilthebuttonisreleased.
5. TheINCREASEandDECREASEbuttonsperformtwofunctionsdependinguponwhethertheyaredepressedindividuallyor
simultaneously.PressingeithertheINCREASEorDECREASEbuttonindividuallywillincrementordecrementthenumber
ofsecondsthatthepumpwillstayonduringatopoffcycle.PressingtheINCREASEandDECREASEbuttonsatthesame
timewillentertheSTORM’s™veryusefulMin‐to‐MaxSetupmode,allowingthepump’sdurationofoperationtobeset
basedontheminimumandmaximumdesiredwaterlevels.SeemoreintheOperationsectionthatfollows.
6. ThepowerswitchcanbeusedatanytimetoshutoffyourSTORM™systemandisequippedwithathermalcircuit
breakerthatwillautomaticallyshutdownthesystemifitdrawstoomuchcurrent.

Operation
Onceyou’veinstalledandfamiliarizedyourselfwithyourSTORM™topoffsystem,it’stimetoputittowork.YourSTORM™hastwo
operatingmodestochoosefromtosuityourneeds.
OperatingModeS1:
YourSTORM™isshippedtoyouinoperatingmodeS1.Wheninitiallypoweredon,theSTORM™beginsmonitoringthesumplevel
andaddswateraccordingly.Whenthe“Aquarium/Sump”LevelSensordetectsalowwaterlevelitwillturnthetopoffpumponfor
thespecifiednumberofseconds.IftheLevelSensorstilldetectsalowwaterlevelafterthenumberofsecondsspecified,itwill
beginanothercycle.However,ifafterthissecondattemptthewaterlevelisstillbelowtheLevelSensor,asasafetyfeaturethe
systemwillsuspendalltopofffunctions.OperatingModeS1allowslongerperiodsbetweentopoffcyclesandallowsyoutotailor
theamountofwateradded.
OperatingModeS2:
OperatingModeS2monitorsthewaterlevelinyouraquariumorsumpandturnsthepumponuntilthe“Aquarium/Sump”Level
Sensordetectsthewaterlevelhasrisenbackuptotheoptimallevelthatyouhaveset.Insteadofusingthetimesetastheduration
forthepumptobeturnedon,itusesthetimeyousetasa“timeout”function.Thesystemwillturnthetopoffpumponuntilthe
optimalwaterlevelisachievedoruntilthepumphasbeenonforthedurationset,whichevercomesfirst.Ifthepumphasbeenon
forthelengthoftimespecifiedbuttheSensorhasnotdetectedthatthewaterhasreachedtheoptimallevel,theSTORM™willshut
thepumpoffasasafetyfeatureandalerttheuserthatthereisaproblem.OperatingModeS2usuallydecreasestheamountof
wateraddedwitheachcycleandthereforeincreasesthenumberoftimesthepumpisturnedoffinanygiventimeframe.
Eitheroperatingmodecanbeusedandispurelyamatterofpersonalpreference.Regardlessoftheoperatingmodeyouchoose,
yourSTORM™alsomonitorsthewaterlevelinyourtopoffreservoir.Ifitdropsbelowthe“TopOffBin”LevelSensor,theSTORM™
willpausetopofffunctionstopreventyourpumpfromrunningdry.Itwillalsoletyouknowbyflashingthe“MONITORING”and
“BINLEVEL”indicators.
YoucanmanuallyturnthetopoffpumponbysimplypressingandholdingthePAUSE/RESETbutton.Afterholdingforthree
secondsthepumpwillbeturnedonandwillremainonuntilyoureleasethePAUSE/RESETbutton.Thisisusefulifyourtopoff
reservoir’swaterlevelwasdepletedandasignificantamountofwaterevaporatedfromyoursumpwhilenewwaterwasbeing
prepared.
IfyouhaveaProsystemoryou’veaddedaROCv™module,placetheSTORM™intheROCv™auxiliarymode.TheSTORM™will
beginmonitoringtheROCv’s™LevelSensorsandwillautomaticallystartandstopthewatersupplytoyourreverseosmosisfilter.
Otherwise,simplypresstheAUXbuttontotogglethepowertotheauxiliaryoutletonorofftocontrolanyperipheralsthatyouhave
pluggedin.
OperatingModeSetup
Tochangeoperatingmodes,simultaneouslydepressandholdtheAUXILIARYMODEandPAUSE/RESETbuttonsforfiveseconds.
Thedisplaywillflash“S1”or“S2,”dependingonwhichmodeyouarecurrentlyusing.Tochangetheoperatingmode,releasethe
AUXandPAUSE/RESETbuttonsandpresstheINCREASEorDECREASEbuttonuntilthemodeyouchoosetouseisdisplayed.After
makingyourchoice,theselectedmodewillflashandOperationModeSetupisautomaticallycompleted.
Min‐to‐MaxSetupmode
YoucanmanuallyadjusttheoperationofyourSTORM™toraisethewaterleveljusttherightamountinOperatingModeS1bytrial
anderror,butyourSTORM™makesthistaskeasierwithitsveryusefulMin‐to‐MaxSetupmode.Thismodeallowsyoutoeasilyset
themaximumdesiredwaterlevelthatyouwantyoursumptobeatafteryourSTORM™performsatop‐offcycle.Let’sassumethe
waterlevelinyoursumpisjustaboveorattheminimumdesiredlevel,andthe“Aquarium/Sump”LevelSensorisatthedesired
waterlevel:
1. PressboththeINCREASEandDECREASEbuttonsimultaneouslyforthreeseconds.ThisenterstheMin‐to‐MaxSetup
mode,andthedisplaywillindicate“P1”
2. WhenthewaterlevelevaporatesenoughtodropandtripyourFloatSensor,thedisplaywillindicate“P2,”butitwillnot
automaticallytopoff.
a. IfyoursumplevelissignificantlyhigherthantheFloatSensor’striplevel,leaveandcheckbackperiodicallyto
seewhenthedisplayindicates“P2.”
b. Ifyoursumplevelisveryclosetoyourdesiredminimumlevel,youcanchoosetoadvancetothenextstep
immediatelybypressingtheFloatSensordownwarduntilitadvancesto“P2”
3. Whenthedisplayindicates“P2,”pressandreleasethePAUSE/RESETbutton.TheSTORM™willaddwaterbacktothe
sumpuntiltheLevelSensordetectsthatthesumpisattheminimumdesiredwaterlevel.
a. Thisaddsanywaterbackthathasevaporatedbelowyourminimumwaterlevelwhileyouwereaway.
b. IfitisalreadyattheminimumdesiredwaterlevelyourSTORM™willautomaticallyadvancetothenextstep.
4. Whenthedisplayreads“P3,”pressthePAUSE/RESETbuttonagain.Thiswillinitiateatopoffcycleandthedisplaywill
changeto“P4.”Keepaneyeonthewaterlevel!

5. Whenthemaximumdesiredwaterlevelisachieved,simplypressthePAUSE/RESETbuttonforalasttime.You’redone!
Thenumberofsecondsittooktoraisethewaterlevelfromtheminimumdesiredleveltoyouridealwaterlevelis
automaticallystored.ThenexttimethewaterleveldropstotheLevelSensor,thepumpwillbeturnedonandwillrun
forthesameamountoftime,therebyaddingthesameamountofwatertoyouraquariumorsump.Ifthereisevera
needtoadjustthenumberofsecondsmanually,simplypresstheINCREASEorDECREASEbuttonsindividuallytoaddor
removeafewsecondsfromthecycle.
InterruptingandResumingtheTopOffandAuxiliaryFunctions
IfyoueverneedtosuspendthetopofffunctionofyourSTORM™system,simplypressandreleasethePAUSE/RESETbutton.The
“MONITORING”and“TOPPINGOFF”indicatorswillblinktoindicatethatthetopofffunctionispaused.Toresume,simplypressand
releasethebuttonagain.NotethatpausingthetopofffunctionwillNOTaffecttheauxiliarymode.Inordertosuspendtheauxiliary
functions,simplydepresstheAUXbuttonuntilthe“OFF”indicatorisilluminated.
InteractionwiththeGenesisRENEW™AutomaticWaterChangeSystem
YourSTORM™canbeconnectedtoaGenesisRENEW™AutomaticWaterChangeSystemtoallowbothunitstobeinstalledinan
aquariumsystemandworktogetherwithoutmanuallydisablingtheSTORM™.TheSTORM™willnotattempttotopoffthesumpor
aquariumanytimetheRENEW™unitisactivelyperformingawaterchangecycle.ThispreventstheSTORM™fromattemptingto
replacethewastesaltwaterremovedbytheRENEW™systemwithfreshwater.Doingsowouldadverselyaffectsalinityina
saltwateraquariumandcouldeventuallyresultinoverflowingthesumpineitherafreshwaterorsaltwateraquarium.Whenthetop
offfunctionshavebeendisabledbytheRENEW™system,theLEDindicatoronthelowerrightoftheSTORM’s™ControlModulewill
illuminatetoindicatethattheyhavebeensuspended,andthe“MONITORING”indicatorwillnotbeilluminated.

Product Use Many factors beyond Genesis Reef Systems’ control and uniquely within the user’s knowledge and control can affect the use and performance of a Genesis Reef
Systems product in a particular application. Given the variety of factors that can affect the use and performance of a Genesis Reef Systems product, the user is
solely responsible for evaluating the Genesis Reef Systems product and determining whether it is fit for a particular purpose and suitable for the user’s method of
application.
Limited Warranty Genesis Reef Systems warrants for 6 months from the date of purchase that Genesis Reef Systems products will be free of defects in material and manufacture.
Genesis Reef Systems makes no other warranties, express or implied, including but not limited to, any implied warranty of merchantability or fitness for a particular
purpose. This limited warranty does not cover damage resulting from use or misuse of a Genesis Reef Systems product, workmanship in application, or application
or storage not in accordance with Genesis Reef Systems recommended procedures. This warranty does not apply to products not directly manufactured by Genesis
Reef Systems or consumable items that may degrade as part of normal use.
Limitation of
Remedies and
Liability
If the Genesis Reef Systems product is proved to be defective within the warranty period stated above the exclusive remedy, at Genesis Reef Systems’
option, shall be to refund the purchase price of or to repair or replace the defective Genesis Reef Systems product. Genesis Reef Systems shall not otherwise
be liable for loss or damages, whether direct, indirect, special, incidental, or consequential, regardless of legal theory asserted, including negligence,
warranty, or strict liability.
