NOTE!
Electrostatic sensitive components/assemblies!
The device contains electronic components that are sensitive to electrostatic discharge (ESD). Contact
with electrostatically charged persons or objects endangers these components. In the worst case,
they are immediately destroyed or fail after putting into operation.
►Take appropriate measures before touching the electronic components.
►Observe the requirements according to DIN EN 61340-5-1 to minimize or avoid the possibility of damage due to sudden electros-
tatic discharge!
►Do not touch electronic components when the operating voltage is present!
WARNING!
Solar radiation and temperature fluctuations can cause malfunctions or leaks.
►Protect product from sun and weather conditions when used outdoors.
►Observe permissible ambient temperatures.
WARNING!
For UL approved components, only circuits of limited power according to "NEC Class 2" may be used.

4Control air connection
The type SPC positioner is an electropneumatic positioner for pneumatically operated control valves with single-acting actuators.
The type SPC positioner is assembled on the pneumatic actuator and regulates the position of the valve.
The type SPC positioner continuously compares the current position (actual position value) with the specification of the external
standard signal (position setpoint value). If there is a control dierence, the electropneumatic control system causes the actuator to
correct the actual position value accordingly.

12. Fasten the type SPC positioner to the actuator using the two lateral fixing screws (14). Tighten the screws only slightly (maxi-
mum tightening torque: 1.5 Nm).
CAUTION!
Secure the screw connections!
Powerful forces or vibrations can cause screw connections to loosen. This may result in injury or property damage.
►The use of Loctite 290 is recommended for all screwed joints.
►Check screw joints regularly.
CAUTION!
Install puck correctly!
To avoid material damage and to ensure proper functioning, the puck must be installed correctly.
►The puck must be correctly assembled and rest in the guide rail during assembly.
CAUTION!
Incorrect adapter size!
To avoid material damage, the components must be compatible.
►The type SPC positioner must be compatible with valve (type and dimension), as well as the adapter.
CAUTION!
Damage or functional failure due to ingress of dirt and moisture!
Prevent ingress of dirt and moisture.
►Tighten fixing screws with max. tightening torque of 1.5 Nm to comply with protection rating IP65 /IP67.
►Check sealing points.

19
Operating Instructions Type SPC positioner
NOTE!
With assembly on process valves with linear stroke actuator type Diastar Ten, Ten Plus, Sixteen, as well as type 025, observe the
mounting instructions in the operating manual of the process valve.
CAUTION!
Do not apply pressure to the positioner during assembly!
Unpredictable actuation may result in injury or property damage.
►When assembling the positioner to actuator, the control air connections must not be connected.

CAUTION!
Damage or functional failure due to incorrect connection!
An incorrect pneumatic connection can damage the type SPC positioner. Prevent ingress of dirt and moisture with any open connec-
tions.
►Before putting into operation, ensure correct pneumatic connection according to the diagram.
►Perform a function test upon putting into operation.
►To maintain the IP65/IP67 protection rating, connect the control air outlet that is not required to the free control air connection
of the actuator or close it with a sealing plug.
NOTE!
►"At rest" means that the control valves of the type SPC positioner are de-energized or not actuated.
►With humid ambient air, a hose connection can be established between control air output 22 of the positioner/process controller
and the control air connection of the actuator which is not connected with control function A or control function B, respectively.
This supplies the spring chamber of the actuator with dry air from the vent duct of the type SPC positioner type.

1. Connect the control medium to the control air connection (3) (3 - 7 bar; instrument air, free of oil, water and dust).
2. Assemble the exhaust air line or a silencer to the exhaust air connection (3) and, for type SPC*, additionally to the exhaust air
connection (3.1).
Exhaust air concept
►To comply with protection rating IP67, an exhaust duct must be assembled in the dry area.
►The control pressure applied must be at least 0.5 - 1 bar higher than the pressure required for the end position of the pneuma-
tic actuator.
►This prevents an excessively small pressure dierence from negatively influencing the control behavior in the upper stroke
range.
►Keep the fluctuations of the control pressure as low as possible during operation (max. ±10%). In case of larger fluctuations, the
controller parameters calibrated with the X.TUNE function are not optimal.
CAUTION!
Incorrect control pressure!
Too high or too low control pressure can impair the function or cause property damage or leakage.
►The control pressure must be within the specified pressure range.
►Observe specifications for compressed air quality (see quality class control medium).
