QUICK START AUX. INSTALLATION GUIDE FOR GM CLASS-II VEHICLES WITH XM TUNER MODULE
Created August 1, 2015
Revised June 11, 2020

Introduction:
Thousands of GM Cars, Trucks and SUV’s are fitted with an XM Tuner module but
lack an input jack for Smartphone, iPod, MP3 player etc. but here is good news.
See, GM fitted many vehicles with an XM tuner module and the AUX-GM3x cable
uses the XM port to provide a 3.5mm audio input for all kinds of audio devices
including Smartphones, MP3 Players, iPods etc. while also retaining XM playback
(if subscribed). Be mindful the vehicle MUST have an XM tuner module (with
or without subscription) for the AUX-GM3x to work. XM Tuner module is a
small electronic box (See Fig. 1) installed in a remote area of vehicle.
NOTE: XM it NOT built into the AM/FM radio, but located in remote area. See table
at the end of this guide for XM tuner location.
See Frequently Asked question at the end of this guide for more details.
Installation (Does not fit AM/FM radio. Fits XM Tuner module)
Alternately, purchase our AUX-GM3 which connect to radio.
See XM module location chart at the end of this guide for possible
location.
1. Disconnect factory 16-pin plug from Tuner (See Fig. 1)
To disconnect pull back blue locking tab (See Fig. 2), press and hold
black release tab then slide plug from tuner chamber.
At all cost avoid pulling wires!

1. Connect adapter harness 16-pin plug (See Fig. 2) to XM module 16-pin
connector (See Fig. 1)
2. Carefully route audio jack (See Fig. 4) to location on dash or nearby
panel where it will be mounted (within 4, 6 or 10 ft.) Location will vary
based on vehicle and customer’s preference.

3. Optional: Drill a ¼” hole in dash or panel, push threaded end through
hole and secure with nut (See Fig. 5)
Fig. 5
The panel should not be thicker than 1/8” otherwise the
jack threads won’t protrude enough to engage with nut.
(If necessary, use a Dremel or sander to thin panel).
Mounting jack is not necessary but doing so makes for a
stock appearance and convenient way of
connecting/disconnecting audio plug.

Test Operation:
1. Turn ignition and radio “ON”
2. Press “BAND” button until XM1 or XM2 is displayed
3. Connect audio device to 3.5mm jack using included 3 ft. audio cable or
similar (See Fig. 6)
4. Put audio device in play mode and ensure volume is at 80% or higher
Fig. 6
3.5mm Male audio cable
5. Use radio volume control button to set playback level. If distortion is
heard lower volume on audio device.
Playlist and Track selection is *NOT* possible from the
Radio. You must use the audio devices built-in controls
to access audio files.
6. To listen to XM simply disconnect 3.5mm audio cable at the jack and
operate XM as customary
7. If correct operation is confirmed go ahead and reinstall Panels
surrounding the XM tuner.
Alert: Audio plug must be removed from cable (jack must be empty)
otherwise XM playback is impaired.
