are 2” to 4” larger than the inside height of the duct; use a 14” brush in a 10” duct. USE STIFF
BRISTLE BRUSHES ONLY IN RECTANGLUAR SHEET METAL DUCTS OR DAMAGE MAY OCCUR.
GENERAL PREPARATION
There are a few steps to take before cleaning air ducts. The most important step is shutting
down the entire HVAC system. It is important to do this because you do not want to circulate
air while you are removing dirt and debris.
AIR DUCT CLEANING PROCESS
Remove and Clean Registers- The first step is to remove and clean the registers. After removal,
use a HEPA filtered portable vacuum to vacuum the registers. If they are still dirty use a mild
dish soap to wash them, then let them air dry.
Clean Supply Ducts- Next start cleaning the supply side of the HVAC system starting with the
duct opening that is farthest from the air handler. Use a HEPA filtered portable vacuum to clean
just inside the register boot to insure you don’t introduce dust into the building. Now using the
AQ-RV450 turn on the vacuum and insert the hose approximately 6” into the duct work. Once
you have inserted the brush turn on the rotation, making use of the wireless remote. Continue
to steadily push the hose and brush through the duct until you reach an endpoint, which will be
noticeable when the hose stops moving as easily. From the endpoint where you have stopped,
reverse rotation using the wireless remote. The brush will now start rotating in the opposite
direction and will shift to the opposite wall to which it was just brushing. Slowly retrieve the
hose until you retrieve the brush to its starting point. Turn off rotation and remove the brush
from the duct and move onto the next duct opening (the second furthest from the air handler).
Repeat until you have cleaned all branch supply lines.
Clean Return Ducts- Depending on the layout of the duct system there may be one return duct
or several. You will often find the cold air return houses the air filter and if this is the case you
should remove the air filter before you clean. Topically vacuum any accessible area in the
return with a HEPA filtered portable vacuum. For areas not accessible with a HEPA filtered
portable vacuum use the AQ-RV450.
Clean Air Handler- topically vacuum any easily accessible area with a HEPA filtered portable
vacuum. It is recommended you consult the air handler’s manual or a trained HVAC technician
for further cleaning of this portion.
TORQUE ADJUSTMENT
CAUTION: over-tightening clutch will cause premature drive system failure
Brush not spinning at all or only spinning in one
direction: Take your Allen T-handle and insert it into the
hole on the side of the machine, and connect it to the
Allen screw inside. Turn torque adjustment clockwise in
½ turn increments until the brush is spinning in both
directions. Once the brush is spinning in both directions
you will need to turn the torque adjustment clockwise
one full turn. Your torque is now set
Brush spinning in both directions but brush stops with
little resistance: Take your Allen T-handle and insert it
into the hole on the side of the machine, and connect it to the Allen screw inside. Turn torque
adjustment counter clockwise until the brush stops spinning in both directions. Once the brush
has stopped turning in either direction, turn the torque adjustment clockwise in ½ turn
increments until the brush is spinning in both directions. Once the brush is spinning in both
directions you will need to turn the torque adjustment clockwise one full turn. Your torque is
now set.
