Introduces the Profile XP Media Platform. You can read this chapter to get familiarwith

Introducing the Profile XP Media
Platform
The Profile XP Media Platform provides a multi-channel, high bandwidth platform for
the storage and manipulation of video and audio in professional applications. The
Profile XP Media Platform has a wide range of capabilities, from a stand alone digital
disk recorder to being part of a large network of video servers. The Profile XP Media
Platform can be used in a wide variety of applications including spot insertion, program
delay, store and forward, and multi-channel replay.
Profile XP Media Platform features
Encoders and decoders in the PVS1000 models process standard definition MPEG-2
video, while encoders and decoders in the PVS2000 models process high definition
MPEG-2 video. The PVS2212 has encoders and decoders of both types, enabling it to
process both standard and high definition MPEG-2 video, although not concurrently.
The PVS1100 Series uses video codecs to process video. You can configure each of the
codecs to encode and decode DVCPRO video, encode MPEG-2 video (I-frame only), or
decode MPEG-2 (I-frame only) video. The PVS1100 Series processes DVCPRO 25
video, and MPEG-2 at bits rates up to 25 Mb/s. The 50 Mb/s software option allows you
to process DVCPRO 50 video, and MPEG-2 (I-frame only) at bit rates up to 50 Mb/s.
