Rechargeable battery
operation
When operating the appliance
with the built-in nickel metal hy-
dride battery, only use the power
unit supplied for charging.
Check that the voltage indicated
on the type plate of the power sup-
ply unit corresponds to your local
power supply.
1Press the button to switch off
the appliance.
2Plug the power cord into the
appliance socket and the
power supply unit into the wall
socket.
– During the charging process,
the display lights up red.
– When the appliance is fully
charged, the display lights
up green.
3Pull the power cord out of the
the appliance socket and the
power supply unit out of the wall
socket.

Notes
7Charge the batteries fully before
you use the appliance for the
first time (for at least 12 hours).
When the appliance is fully
charged, the display lights
up green.
7The ambient temperature should
be between 5 °C and 40 °C.
7After each further use, charging
time is approx. 7 hours.
7In its fully charged state, the ap-
pliance can operate for approx.
45 minutes. It is not advisable to
charge the batteries after every
use, especially if you do not use
the appliance for the full 45 min-
utes. Only charge the batteries
when they are completely dis-
charged. This increases their
service life. Do not charge them
every day.

Operating with the
power supply unit
Check that the voltage indicated
on the type plate of the power sup-
ply unit corresponds to your local
power supply.
The only way to disconnect the ap-
pliance from the power supply is to
unplug the power supply unit.
1Plug the power cord into the ap-
pliance socket and the
power supply unit into the wall
socket.
– The appliance is now ready to
operate.
Caution
7When in the bathroom or beside
a water connection, only use the
appliance in battery mode;
never run it from the mains.

Setting the trimming
length
The adjustable combing system
has five different lengths:
1Set the trimming length by
pressing the adjustable combing
system forwards with both
thumbs into the required position
and let it latch into place.
Notes
7Precise trimming grade lock
during operation.
7Trimming length without
combing system 1.5 mm.
7Width of cutting head 40 mm.

Longer trimming lengths
A second adjustable combing
system is available for longer
trimming lengths:
1Pull back the adjustable comb-
ing system .
2Attach the second combing
system.
3Set the cutting length by
pressing the adjustable combing
system forwards with both
thumbs into the required position
and let it latch into place.

Activating the thinning
function
1Push the switch to the right.
– The thinning function is
activated.
2Set the required trimming length
as described.
Switching on and off
1Switch on the appliance by
pushing the switch to position
»ON«.

Trimming hair
Make sure the hair is clean and
completely dry.
Place a towel around the neck and
shoulders of the person whose hair
you are trimming. Make sure the
person is seated so that the head
is roughly at your eye level. Before
trimming, comb the hair so that it
falls naturally and you can see the
direction in which it grows.
1Set the trimming length.
2Press the button to switch on
the appliance.
3If required, activate the thinning
function by pressing .

Useful tips
7Hold the appliance with a
relaxed and comfortable grip.
7Always cut against the natural
direction of the hair.
7As you cut, take a break at
regular intervals. You can
always make a correction, but
not once the hair has been cut.
7Only cut a small amount the first
time you use it. This is the only
way to get used to the variable
grades.
7Keep combing the hair. Only
look for hair which is too long
and comb out clippings.

Beard trimming
1Set the trimming length.
2Press the button to switch on
the appliance.
Note
7If the appliance is blocked by
thick hair while you are using it,
turn it off. If running it from the
mains, unplug the socket.
Remove the combing system
and clean the cutting head with
the brush supplied. If the blades
only move slowly or not at all,
clean the appliance as
described in the next section.

Trimming contours
For trimming contours, remove the
adjustable combing system
(cutting length without combing
system 1.5 mm).

Cleaning and care
1Switch off the appliance and
unplug it if you are running it
from the mains.
2Remove the adjustable combing
system and clean the blade
head with the brush supplied.
3Remove the cutting head by
pressing on the top of the cutting
head until it springs out the
holder.
4Replace the cutting head by
inserting the catch at the bottom
of the cutting head in the
opening in the housing and
press down firmly.
5Replace the adjustable combing
system.
Notes
7Never use water or any other
liquids to clean the appliance.
Only use the cleaning brush
provided.
7You can rinse the cutting head
and the two extendable combs
with water, but you must remove
them from the device first.
7Remove any clippings after
each use.

7The cutting head of your
appliance does not normally
need to be oiled. If you want to
maintain the original condition
of the cutting head for as long
as possible, it is worth oiling it at
regular intervals (with the oil
provided).
Storage
If you do not want to use the
appliance for a long period of
time, please store it carefully.
1Make sure the appliance is
switched off.
2Store the parts in the original
packaging in a cool, dry place.
3Make sure the appliance is kept
out of reach of children.
