Special features of your DVD player
Your DVD player gives you perfect digital video playback in studio quality.
It also provides superb cinema-quality audio playback – in stereo or with digital
multi-channel sound – depending on the type of DVD and the HiFI system or
stereo television.
Other features of DVD video include the choice of audio channel and language,
choice of subtitle language, and various camera recording angles.
In addition to DVDs, your DVD player can also play MP3, video and audio CDs.
Your DVD player is suitable for DVDs with regional code 2.

To ensure that this high-quality, easy-to-use DVD player provides you with
lasting satisfaction and enjoyment, please observe the following instructions
when setting it up.
This DVD player set is designed to play video and audio signals from compact
discs (DVD and CD).
Any other use is expressly prohibited.
If the DVD player is subject to a sudden change in temperature, for example if
brought in from the cold to a warm room, connect it to the mains supply and let
it stand for at least two hours before you insert a DVD.
The DVD player is designed for use in dry rooms. If you do use it in the open,
please ensure that it is protected from moisture, such as rain or water splashes.
Place the DVD player on a hard, level surface. Do not place any objects such as
newspapers on the DVD player or any cloth or similar articles underneath it.
Do not place the DVD player close to heating units or in direct sunlight, as this
will impair cooling.
Do not insert foreign objects in the air vents or the disc compartment.
Never open the DVD player casing under any circumstances. The manufacturer
accepts no liability for damage resulting from improper handling.
Do not place any vessels such as vases on the DVD player, as they may spill
liquid, thus presenting a safety risk.
Thunderstorms are a danger to all electrical devices. Even if the DVD player is
switched off, it can be damaged by a lightning strike to the mains. Always
remove the mains plug during an electrical storm.
If the DVD player is unable to scan DVDs or CDs perfectly, use a standard
commercial cleaning CD to clean the laser optics. Other cleaning methods may
damage the laser optics.
Always keep the disc compartment closed to prevent dust from collecting on the
laser optics.
This DVD player is designed to the highest technological and environmental
standards. Only ecologically compatible, high quality materials have been
used. The batteries included are free of mercury and cadmium.
The range of materials used has been deliberately restricted and all the larger
plastic parts have been labelled. This means that the DVD player is easily
disassembled to make servicing easier and optimise recycling.

Connecting the television …
… using a EURO-AV cable
1Plug a standard EURO-AV-cable into the »SCART Connector To TV«
socket on the DVD players and the appropriate socket (AV 1) on the television
set
or
… using a cinch cable
1Plug a standard cinch cable into the »Video OUT« socket on the DVD
player and into the appropriate socket (VIDEO IN) on the television.
2Plug a standard cinch AV cable into the »Audio OUT L R« sockets on the
DVD player and the appropriate sockets (AUDIO IN) on the television
or
… using a Y/C cable (S-VHS)
1Plug a standard Y/C cable into the »S-Video OUT« socket on the DVD
player and into the appropriate socket (S-VIDEO) on the television.
2Plug a standard cinch AV cable into the »Audio OUT L R« sockets on the
DVD player and the appropriate sockets (AUDIO IN) on the television.
Note:
If the DVD player is connected to a television set with a 16:9 format, observe
the settings described in the ”Selecting the television format” section on page
27.
The colour norm of the DVD player’s screen menus has to be adapted to the
format of the television. Make sure to observe the settings described in the
”Setting the TV system” section on page 27.

Connecting to a HiFi system with analogue
two-channel stereo sound
As an alternative to using the television’s speakers, the sound can also be played
back through a HiFi system.
1Plug a standard cinch cable into the »Audio OUT L R« sockets on the DVD
player and into the appropriate sockets on the HiFi system.
Caution:
Do not connect the DVD player’s »Audio OUT L R« sockets to the PHONO
sockets (record player input) on the HiFi system.
Note:
The »Audio OUT L R« sockets can also be used for connection to a Pro
Logic audio/video receiver.
Connecting to a digital multi-channel audio/video
amplifier
The digital multi-channel sound of a DVD can best be decoded and played with
a multi-channel audio/video amplifier (Dolby* digital decoder) or DTS.
1Plug a standard cinch cable into the »DIGITAL AUDIO OUT COAXIAL«
socket on the DVD player and into the appropriate socket on the digital
multi-channel amplifier.

Note:
You must activate the digital output on the DVD player and set the correct
digital output format. Make sure to observe the settings described in the
”Selecting audio types for the digital output” section on page 26.
The audio/video amplifier has to be able to process the DTS (Digital Theatre
System) audio signal in order to play a DVD with DTS. If it cannot, then you
will not be able to hear the DVD.
Connecting to a HiFi system with digital two-channel
stereo sound (PCM) or a digital multi-channel audio
amplifier
1Plug a standard cinch cable into the »DIGITAL AUDIO OUT COAXIAL«
socket on the DVD player and into the appropriate socket on the digital
multi-channel amplifier.
Note:
You must activate the digital output on the DVD player and set the correct
digital output format. Make sure to observe the settings described in the
”Selecting audio types for the digital output” section on page 26.

Connecting the power cord
1Plug the power cord into the mains socket.
Caution:
The only way to disconnect the DVD player from the mains supply is to pull
the plug.
Inserting batteries in the remote control
1Open the battery compartment by pressing the arrow and pulling back the
lid.
2When inserting the batteries (UM-3 or AA, 2 x1.5 V), observe the polarity
marked on the base of the battery compartment.
Note:
If the DVD player no longer reacts properly to remote control commands, the
batteries may be flat. Always remove flat batteries. No liability is accepted
for damage resulting from leaking batteries.
Environmental note
Batteries, including those which are heavy metal-free, may not be disposed
of with household waste. Please dispose of used batteries in and environ-
mentally sound way, for example at public collection points. Find out about
the legal regulations which apply in your area.

DVD and Video CD features
You can recognise DVDs and video CDs by their label.
Depending on the contents of the DVD or video CD (films, music videos etc.),
they may carry one or more titles.
Each title may contain one or more chapters. Titles and chapters can be selected
easily and conveniently.
You can control and direct playback of a DVD or video CD using the menu of
the DVD player on the television screen.
Special DVD features
DVDs may contain titles and passages which have been arranged in fixed order
by the manufacturer. You can also select individual titles and passages and then
play them back.
DVDs have a title menu which provides an overview of the titles available and
the passages they contain.
Some of the DVD player’s functions, such as slow motion, freeze-frame and
auto-play, can also be controlled by the DVD itself. It is therefore possible that
the freeze-frame function, for example, cannot be selected during certain
scenes.
Many DVDs have audio tracks recorded in up to eight languages. This enables
you to select the language you prefer.
Many DVDs are recorded by the manufacturer with subtitles in several languages.
You can select subtitle superimposition from up to 32 different languages.
Since films are released in different parts of the world at different times, all DVD
players world-wide are given a regional code. Your DVD player has been given
regional code 2.
DVDs can also be given a supplementary regional code. If you insert a DVD
with different code to that of the DVD player, a reference to the regional code
appears on the television screen. The DVD player will not be able to play back
the DVD.
Before playback
Preparation
1Switch on the television and select the channel for the DVD player.
2Switch on the HiFi system and select the audio input for the DVD player.
3Press »99« to switch the DVD player on.
– DVD-player display: »LOAD« then »NO DISC«.
Note:
If you want to operate the DVD player with the buttons on the DVD player
and the »LOCK« message appears on the television screen, you must
deactivate this »LOCK« (see the ”Blocking the keys on the DVD player”
section on page 29).

Inserting a DVD/video CD
1Press the »OPEN/CLOSE .« button.
– The disc compartment opens. DVD player display: »OPEN«.
2Insert the DVD/video CD into the compartment, with the label facing
upwards.
3Press »OPEN/CLOSE .«.
– DVD-player display: »CLOSE«, »LOAD«, then »DVD« or »VCD«, the
current chapter and the elapsed playing time of the DVD or Video-CD.
Playback starts automatically.
Note:
If the parental lock is activated and the DVD/video CD is blocked (see the
”PARENTAL LOCK” section on Page 25), you will have to enter the code
number.
If the »-« symbol appears on the television screen, then the selected
function is not possible with this DVD/video CD.
Playing back a title
1After the disc compartment closes and the DVD is scanned, playback starts
automatically.
2To switch to playback-pause (freeze-frame), press »PLAY/PAUSE 8 !«.
3To resume playback, press »PLAY/PAUSE 8 !«.
4To stop playback, press » STOP/RETURN

Note:
Depending on the DVD/video CD you are using, you may have to select a
title or chapter from the DVD’s/video CD’s table of contents.
Use the »A«, »S«, »a« or »s« buttons to select it and then press
»SELECT« to confirm.
If the selections are numbered, use the »1 … 0, +10« keys.
Calling up information
You can call up information on the title, chapter and playing time for display on
the screen.

from among them.

the title and then »SELECT« to confirm.
3Select the »›« (chapter) display by pressing »s«, press »S« or »A«or

… using the menu of the DVD/video CD
The menu of the DVD/video CD may contain selection options for titles, sections
or scenes.
1Call up the contents of the DVD/video CD by pressing »MENU« or
»TITLE«.
– If the DVD/video CD has a title menu it will appear on the screen.
2If the selection options are numbered, select the desired title and section
using »1 … 0, +10«.
3If the options are not numbered, select titles and sections with »A«, »S«,
»a« or »s«, and activate with »SELECT«.
Selecting a section to the nearest minute
1Press »DISPLAY« to see the Info line.
2Press »DISPLAY« again.

3Enter the required playing time using the »1…0« buttons and press

Interrupting/resuming playback
The playback of a DVD/video CD can be interrupted at any point and then
resumed from the same place.
1Interrupt playback by pressing » STOP/RETURN 7« once.
2Resume playback at the same point by pressing »PLAY/PAUSE 8«.
Ending playback
Playback of a DVD or video CD automatically stops at the end of a title.
You can stop playback at any point by pressing »

The sound is muted with the ”frame-search”, ”slow-motion” and ”freeze-
frame” functions.
If the »-« symbol appears, then this function is not possible with this
DVD/video CD.

You can choose from among six different speeds (forwards or backwards).
1During playback, select the desired playback speed with » 3FR/SR« or
»4FF/SF«.
2To resume playback, press »PLAY/PAUSE 8 !«.
Slow motion
You can choose from among three different speeds (forwards or backwards).
1Press »PLAY/PAUSE 8 !« during playback.
2Select the slow motion speed by pressing » 3FR/SR« or » 4FF/SF«.

Frame-by-frame playback
1Press » STEP « repeatedly during playback.

Repeating a chapter or a title
These functions repeat the current chapter or title.
1During playback, press »REPEAT« once or twice.
– The selected function is briefly displayed:
»CHAPTER REPEAT« – the current chapter on the DVD is repeated.
»TITLE REPEAT« – the current title on the DVD is repeated.
2To quit the function »REPEAT«a third time.

Repeating a selected scene (A-B Repeat)
You can use this function to select the beginning and end of a scene, and then
play it over and over.
1During playback, mark the beginning of the scene with »A-B«.
– »A-« appears on the DVD-player display, and »A TO B SET A« and
»A - *« appear on the screen.
2To mark the end of the scene, press »A-B« again.
– »A« appears on the DVD-player display, and »A TO B SET B« and
»A - B« appear on the screen.
– The selected scene is repeated over and over.
3To stop this function, press »A-B« again.
Selecting the camera angle for particular scenes or
passages
Many DVDs contain scenes or passages which were filmed several times from
different camera angles.
You can choose from among these different angles.
If DVD offers this function, »†« appears on the television screen.
1During playback press »ANGLE« to select the camera angle function.
– The »†1/3« display indicates the camera angle – number 1 in this
example.
2Select a different camera angle by pressing »ANGLE«.
Enlarging the picture and moving screen sections
(Zoom)
1During playback or pause, press »ZOOM« once, twice or three times.
– Display: »kZOOM X2«, »kZOOM X4«, »kZOOM X8«, and
the DVD player enlarges a section of the screen.
2You can move the screen section by pressing »a«, »s«, »A« or »S«.
3Deactivate the function by pressing »ZOOM«.
– Display: »ZOOM OFF«.
Changing the dubbed language
This adjustments switches out of the preset dubbed language, when the DVD
offers alternatives.
1Press »AUDIO« during playback.
– Display: for example »AUDIO 1/3 : Dolby Digital 5.1 ENGLISH« appears
briefly, and the current dubbed language is displayed.
2To set the desired language, press »AUDIO« repeatedly.

If the current DVD provides subtitles, they can be displayed on your TV screen.
When subtitles in several languages are available, you can select your
language of choice.
1Press »SUBTITLE« during playback.
– Display: for example »SUBTITLE 01/14 : ENGLISH« appears briefly, and
the current dubbed language is displayed.
2To set the language for the subtitles, press »SUBTITLE« repeatedly.
Note:
To switch off the subtitles, keep pressing »SUBTITLE« until »SUBTITLE OFF«
appears in the display.
Selecting and playing scenes
You can mark up to five scenes on the DVD, which you can then select directly
during playback.
Setting or deleting markers
1Press »MARKER« during playback.
– Display: »MARKER - - - - -«.
2Press »SELECT« to mark the scene.
– Display: »MARKER ✔- - - -«.
Note:
Press »s« or »a« to select the next marker and »SELECT« to mark the
scene.
3Press »MARKER« to switch off the display.
Note:
To delete a marker press »MARKER«.
Select the marker to be deleted with »s« or »a« and press »CLEAR« to
delete it.
Playing selected scenes
1Press »MARKER« during playback.
2Select the desired marker with »s« or »a« and press »SELECT« to confirm.
– The display disappears and playback starts at the marked scene.
3To play back a different marker, repeat steps 1 and 2.

Creating a video programme
You can use this function to create your very own video programme.
Note:
Opening the disc compartment deletes the programme.
Selecting a title
1Switch on the television and select the channel for the DVD player, open the
disc compartment, insert the video CD and close the compartment.
2Switch the DVD player to STOP by pressing » STOP/RETURN 7«.
3Call up the »PROGRAM« display by pressing »PROGRAM«.
– Display: »PROGRAM P00 :00«.
4Enter the title using »1 … 0« and press »SELECT« to confirm.
– Display: »PROGRAMM P01 :01« (P01 for the programmed title, 01 for
the number of the title).
Note:
Repeat step 4to program additional titles. You can program up to 99 titles.
5Start playback of the video programme by pressing »PLAY/PAUSE 8 !«.
6End playback of the video programme by pressing » STOP/RETURN
7«.
Deleting the video programme
1Press » STOP/RETURN 7« to switch the DVD player to STOP, then press
»OPEN/CLOSE .«.
– The disc compartment opens and the video programme is deleted.
Playing back titles in random order
This function allows the titles on the video CD to be played back in random
order.
1Switch the DVD player to STOP by pressing » STOP/RETURN 7«.
2Press »SHUFFLE«.
– »SHUFFLE« appears on the DVD display.
3Press »PLAY/PAUSE 8 !« to start playback.

Search functions
This function gives you three ways to look for sections of scenes.
1Press » STOP/RETURN
7« to switch the DVD player to Stop mode.
2Press »DIGEST« to call up the menu.
3Select the required function using »1… 4«.
– INTRO: the first 10 seconds of every section are played. Then the DVD
player switches to Stop mode.
– DISC: shows a section inset on the screen.
– TRACK: shows scenes from a section inset on the screen.
With these functions you see the section or the scene for five seconds, then
the scene or section is shown as an inset freeze-frame and the process is
repeated with the next section or scene.
4If more than nine scenes or sections are found, press »5a PREV« or
»s6 NEXT«to page between the overviews.
5Playback starts at the section or scene which you select by pressing
»1… 0«.
6Press » STOP/RETURN
7« to quit the function.

Preparation
1Switch on the television and select the channel for the DVD player.
2Switch on the HiFi system and select the audio input for the DVD player.
3Press »99« to switch the DVD player on.
– DVD-player display: »LOAD« then »NO DISC«.
Inserting the MP3 CD
1Press the »OPEN/CLOSE .« button.
2Insert the MP3 CD in the disc compartment, with the labelling facing
upwards.
3Press »OPEN/CLOSE .«.
– DVD-player display: »CLOSE«, »LOAD«, then »MP3«, the number of titles
and the playing time of the MP3-CD.
– A menu appears on the screen showing the content of the MP3 CD.
Note:
If the »-« symbol appears on the television screen, then the selected
function is not available.
Playback
1Select the required folder by pressing »a«, »s«, »A« or »S« and then
press »SELECT« to call it up.
– A menu appears on the screen with the titles contained in the folder. The
info bar contains the name of the folder and the number of titles.
2Select the required title by pressing »a«, »s«, »A« or »S« and then
press »SELECT« to call it up.
– Playback starts and the playing time of the title appears in the info bar.
Note:
You can also select the title directly using the »1 … 0, +10« buttons and
start playback by pressing »SELECT«.
Press »s6 NEXT«to select the next title or »5a PREV« to select the
previous one. Playback starts automatically.
3To pause playback, press »PLAY/PAUSE 8 !«.
Press »PLAY/PAUSE 8 !« to resume playback.
4To stop playback, press » STOP/RETURN
7«.

To return to the main menu of the MP3 CD, press »
