2.1 About this chapter
This product has been manufactured in strict compliance with the generally
accepted rules of technology. However, this does not exclude the risk of damage
to persons or property if this chapter and the safety instructions included in the
present documentation are not observed.
fRead the entire documentation carefully before starting to use the product.
fKeep this documentation in a location where it is accessible to all users at any
time.
fWhen passing over the product to third parties, make sure to include the
necessary documentation.
2.2 Intended use
The S-Link Monitoring Unit allows data capture from hydraulic applications and
transmits this data for remote condition monitoring.
In the application the S-Link Monitoring Unit is classied as a component in terms
of the Low Voltage Directive (LVD) 2006/95/EC. The S-Link Monitoring Unit is
exclusively intended for integration in a machine or system or for assembly with
other components to form a machine or system. The S-Link Monitoring Unit
may only be commissioned after it has been installed in the machine/system for
which it is intended and the safety of the entire system has been established in
accordance with the LVD.
The product is intended for professional and not for private use.
Intended use includes having read and understood the entire documentation, in
particular the “Safety instructions” chapter.
The product is intended for the following use:
• Measuring, collection and transmission of drive data from a hydraulic
controlsystem for remote monitoring.
Observe the technical data, application, operating conditions and performance
limits as specied in the product-specic data sheet and in the order conrmation.
2.3 Improper use
Any use of the product not in accordance with the above denition is improper and
thus inadmissible.
Inadequate products installed or used for safety-relevant applications may produce
unintended operating behavior and result in product or property damage. For
this reason, use a product in safety-relevant applications only on condition that
such use is specied and allowed in the corresponding product documentation.
For instance in a potentially explosive atmosphere or in safety related parts of a
control system (functional safety).

in mechanics/electrics as well as knowledge of the corresponding technical
terms. In order to ensure safety at work, these jobs must be exclusively carried
out by qualied technical personnel or by trained staff under the direction and
supervision of qualied personnel.
Qualied personnel are in a position to recognize possible hazards and institute
appropriate safety measures thanks to their professional training, knowledge and
experience, as well as their understanding of the relevant conditions pertaining to
the work to be done. Qualied personnel must observe the subject-specic rules.
Bosch Rexroth offers training support for special elds. For more information
about training, please contact your Bosch Rexroth representative.

The S-Link system can consist of a number of sensor modules, one for each
component in the additional sensor package. There will be separate order codes
for the sensor element, the adaptor for mechanical connection and the connecting
cable.
The used attributes for each part are:
• Sensor – Attribute 02
• Adapter Coupling – Attribute 03
• Cable – Attribute 04
4.4.1 Sensor
Attribute 02 is the type of sensor. Each sensor type is described in detail under
technical data.
4.4.2 Adapter Coupling
Attribute 03 is the mechanical connection between the sensor and the hydraulic
system. The different coupling types are described under technical data.
4.4.3 Cable
Attribute 04 is the total length of all connection cables between sensors and the
box. The cable will always be of 5 wire type where the non-used wires are cut.
Connection to the sensors are described for each sensor type under technical data.

5 Function
5.1 Product description
Bosch Rexroth S-Link system is an extension to a local hydraulic system control
unit, giving the ability to collect and transmit data for monitoring of the operation.
The S-Link system is delivered with different connectivity options for data
transmission, possibility to add more sensors and has different mounting options.
The main part of the S-Link system is the CCM-module which is the internal
computer, running with Linux operating system and is the communication port to
Häggglunds Spider control system. An option is the MMM-module, providing the
ability to add more sensors to the system for additional monitoring. The data is
sent to the ODiN data base via GPRS-router or via Ethernet for calculation and
evaluation. This documentation is intended to cover all standard options. It may
not cover all details for customized setups.
Please refer to data sheets and the order conrmation for specic technical data,
operating condition and operating limits of your S-Link system setup.
Quality
To assure our quality we maintain a Quality Assurance System, certied to
standard ISO 9001.
5.2 Function
The S-Link system collects sensor data via a serial connection from Hägglunds Dri-
ve System via Spider 2 control system for Condition Monitoring. All existing sensors
connected to the control unit and system internal signals can be used for evaluati-
on. Additional sensors can be added to the S-Link monitoring unit if needed. This re-
quires one or more additional I/O modules for connection of the sensor signals. The
complete sensor signal data package is transferred to the database ODiN for storage
and calculation of system behavior, see Fig. 1

The transfer of data is encrypted to improve the security, see Fig. 2.
Fig. 2: Data transfer
The order code for the main article S-Link Hardware Package (SLHP) gives an
overview of the drive system that is monitored, as number of actuators (hydraulic
motors), number of Drive Units (PEC, PAC, DUe, DUc,) and the added number of
sensors in the package.
The S-Link Hardware Package contains sub blocks to simplify the handling. The
blocks are described in this document, see 4: Ordering code
The S-Link Monitoring Unit (SLMU) describes the conguration of the box
containing the active parts of the S-Link function.
Fig. 3: S-Link monitoring unit
The S-Link Mounting Package (SLMP) species the assembly alternatives for the
box. The S-Link Sensor Package (SLSP) handles the add-on sensors needed to
improve the condition monitoring of the system. This block will also handle the
adapters for mechanical connection to the hydraulic system and the cables needed
for the complete installation.
The complete delivery can contain a number of SLSP packages depending on how
many additional sensors to install.

5.3 Technicalspecication
A Technical Specication is required for the specication of the S-Link system
conguration. Contact Mll Technical helpdesk for TS documentation. The
completed TS shall be sent to Mll Technical helpdesk for hardware conguration.
The TS needs detailed information about the existing hydraulic system so a
detailed knowledge about the system is needed.
5.4 ProductIdentication
The product identication for the box (SLMU) is marked on a sticker inside the
box. The identication for the complete system (SLHP) is marked on a sticker
outside on the box or on all boxes in bigger systems.
