Additional Support
Many factors affect the performance of ACP 215 device, including the
functional integrity of the instrument, the consistency of the disposable set, and
the quality of the blood from the donor or freezer.
When the device is properly calibrated and maintained, the instrument is very
reliable and predictable and is designed to withstand substantial abuse. There
may be times, however, when a component may fail prematurely, or due to
age, or when damage may occur during transportation or as the result of fluid
contamination.
Haemonetics has made an attempt to predict all possible service scenarios in
designing this manual. There will certainly be situations that were not
predicted, and in such cases Haemonetics Product Support can be relied upon
to provide outstanding service support.
In the United States, product support and field service can be contacted
through the Haemonetics Customer Care Center at 1-800-537-2802.
Outside the U.S. contact the appropriate Haemonetics office. See
“Haemonetics Worldwide” on page 3.

General
The purpose of this chapter is to describe both the principles of operation and
the internal and external components of the Haemonetics ACP 215 device. For
detailed information on the use of the instrument and installation of the
disposable, refer to your device’s Owner’s Operating and Maintenance
Manual.
The ACP 215 device is a combination of four subsystems:
A disposable set
Two electro-mechanical devices
A printer
The four subsystems are integrated to perform the required function. The
processing of all fluids occurs within the disposable, the instrument controls the
movement of the shaker and the flow of fluid to and from the disposable bag.
The printer allows for a printed record of the procedure.

Disposable Sets
Elements of the
Glycerolization
Disposable Set
Figure 2, LN225 Glycerolization disposable set
The glycerolization disposable set contains the following elements:
Glycerol solution line: The glycerol solution line contains a spike which
is used to connect the glycerol solution bottle to the disposable set and a
ratchet clamp.
Pump tubing: The blood pump tubing sections contain two blue pump
stops which will secure the pump tubing during pump loading and
operation.
Bacteria barrier filter: A 0.2 µm is integrated on the set, downstream of
the solution pump. This filter acts as a barrier to prevent potential
contaminants from passing into the system after spiking or connecting any
of the solution bags.
Note: The bacteria barrier filter allows the attachment of the glycerol using a
spike, while still maintaining a functionally closed system and allows the
extension of the expiration date of the product. The filter does not restrict the
flow of glycerol.

Draw pressure monitor (DPM) filter: A 0.2 µm filter located on the blood
line is used as a bacteria barrier between the draw pressure monitor and
the disposable set. It is coupled with the receptor on the DPM to monitor
pressure within the blood line from the blood pump to the RBC bag.
In case of any occlusion in the line or any obstruction generated by the
sterile connection process, the pressure monitor will stop the pump and
alert the operator.
Heat sealed tubing: The end of the blood line tubing is heat sealed to
achieve a closed system and is connected to the RBC bag using a sterile
connection device.

spike which is used to connect the wash solution bag to the dispos-
able set.
Additive solution line: The orange-coded solution line contains a
male luer connector to attach the selected additive solution bag to
the disposable set.
