•This air conditioner must be properly installed in
accordancewith the Installation Instructions before it is
used.
•Never unplug your air conditioner by pulling on the power
cord.Always grip plug firmly and pull straight out from the
receptacle.
•Replace immediately all electric service cords that have
becomefrayed or otherwise damaged. A damaged power
supplycord must be replaced with a new power supply cord
obtainedfrom the manufacturer and not repaired. Do not
usea cord that shows cracks or abrasion damage along its
lengthor at either the plug or connector end.
•Turn the unit OFF and unplug your air conditioner before
cleaning.
•For your safety…do not store or use combustible materials,
gasolineor other flammable vapors or liquids in the vicinity
ofthis or any other appliance.
•If the receptacle does not match the plug, the receptacle
mustbe changed out by a qualified electrician.
•Do not use means to accelerate the defrosting process
orto clean, other than those recommended by the
manufacturer.
•The appliance shall be stored in a room without
continuouslyoperating ignition sources (for example: open
flames,an operating gas appliance or an operating electric
heater.
•Do not pierce or burn refrigerant tubing. Be aware that
refrigerantsmay not contain an odor.
•Keep ventilation openings clear of obstruction.
•When handling, installing, and operating the appliance, care
shouldbe taken to avoid damage to the refrigerant tubing.
•Do not drill holes in the unit.
•Maintenance, cleaning, and service should only be
performedby technicians properly trained and qualified in
theuse of flammable refrigerants.
•GE Appliances does not support any servicing of the air
conditioner.
•Dispose of air conditioner in accordance with Federal and
LocalRegulations. Flammable refrigerants require special
disposalprocedures. Contact your local authorities for the
environmentallysafe disposal of your air conditioner.

HOW TO CONNECT ELECTRICITY
Donot, under any circumstances, cut or remove the third
(ground)prong from the power cord. For personal safety, this
appliancemust be properly grounded.
DO NOT use an adapter plug with this appliance.
Thepower cord of this appliance is equipped with a3-prong
(grounding)plug which mates with a standard 3-prong
(grounding)wall outlet to minimize the possibility of electric
shockhazard from this appliance.
Powercord includes a current interrupter device. A test
andresetbuttonisprovidedontheplug case.Thedevice
shouldbe tested on a periodic basis by first pressingthe

Havethe wall outlet and circuit checked by a qualified
electricianto make sure the outlet is properly grounded.
Wherea 2-prong wall outlet is encountered, it is your
personalresponsibility and obligation to have it replaced with
aproperly grounded 3-prong wall outlet.
Theair conditioner should always be plugged into its own
individualelectrical outlet which has a voltage rating that
matchesthe rating plate.
Thisprovides the best performance and also prevents
overloadinghouse wiring circuits which could cause a fire
hazardfrom overheated wires.

GrilleandCase
Turnthe air conditioner off and remove the plug from thewall
outletbefore cleaning. To clean, use water and a mild detergent. Donotusebleach orabrasives.
AirFilter
Theair filter behind the front grille should be checked and
cleanedat least every 30 days or more often if necessary.
To remove:
Slidethe filter from the left side of the unit. Removethefilter.
Cleanthe filter with warm, soapy water. Rinse and let thefilter
drybefore replacing it. Do not clean the filter in adishwasher.
CAUTION
ÍØ×ØÝòóèõä÷è÷ëèäìõæòñçì÷ìòñèõ
withouta filter because dirt and lint will clog it andreduce
performance.
OutdoorCoils
Thecoils on the outdoor side of the air conditioner shouldbe
checkedregularly. If they are clogged with dirt or soot, they
maybe professionally cleaned.
DoNotOperateinFreezingOutdoorConditions
Thiscool-onlyairconditionerwasnotdesignedforfreezing
outdoorconditions. Itmustnotbeusedwhentheoutdoor
temperatureisbelowfreezing(32°F).

ELECTRICAL REQUIREMENTS
Thesemodels require a 115/120-volt AC, 60-Hz
groundedoutlet protected with a 15-amp
time-delayfuse or circuit breaker.
The3-prong grounding plug minimizes the possibility of
electricshock hazard. If the wall outlet you plan to useis
onlya 2-prong outlet, it is your responsibility to have it
replacedwith a properly grounded 3-prong wall outlet.
CAUTION
Donot, under any circumstances, cut or remove the third

3. PREPARE THE AIR CONDITIONER
A. Installthe top mounting rail with 3 Type A screws
B. Slidethe side curtain panels into the side panel rails.
C. Slideleft and right side curtain frames into top and
bottomrails. Make sure that side curtains snap into
sideof the frames.

conditionerto tilt toward the outside, and will keep
itfrom draining properly. To adjust for this, attach a
pieceof wood to the sill.

4. INSTALL THE AIR CONDITIONER IN
THE WINDOW
A. Measurethe width of the window opening and mark
thecenter line on the inside window sill. Place the
unitin the window. Lower the window to hold unit in
place.
B. Setthe air conditioner in the window so that is
centered. Placethe air conditioner so that front
edgeof the bottom mounting rail is against the back
edgeof the sill.
C. Installthe side bracket into the unit and into the
windowsill using two 1” wood screws provided.

4. INSTALL THE AIR CONDITIONER IN
THE WINDOW (continues)
D. Bringthe window down so that the front edge of the
topmounting is in front of the window. Make sure
thatthe air conditioner is level or tilting slightly to
theoutside.
E. Extendthe curtain panels until they fill the window.
Markthe location of the holes in each corner. Use
thedrill and 1/8” drill bit to drill pilot holes. Use 4
typeB screws to secure the side panels in place.

UseType B Screw to install the window lock bracket
ontop of the bottom window.

A. CAUTION
Toprevent broken glass
ordamage to windows,
onvinyl or other similarly
constructedwindows,
attachthe window locking
bracketto the window
sidejamb with one Type B
screw.
B. Cutthe foam top window gasket to the window
width.
C. Stuffthe foam between the glass and the window
toprevent air and insects from getting into the
room.
NOTE: Ifthe gasket supplied does not fit your
window,obtain appropriate material locally to
providea proper installation seal.

Problem Possible Cause What To Do
Air conditioner does not
start. The unit is unplugged. Makesuretheair conditioner plug ispushedcompletely into theoutlet.
The fuse is blown/circuit breaker is
tripped. Checkthehousefuse/circuit breaker box andreplacethe fuse orresetthebreaker.
Power Failure. Theunitwillautomatically restart in thesettinglast used after
thepowerisrestored.
Thereisaprotective time delay (approximately3minutes) to
preventtrippingofthe compressor overload. For thisreason,
theunitmaynot start normal coolingfor3 minutes after itis
turnedbackon.
The current interrupter device is
tripped. PressRESETbuttonlocated on the powercordplug.
IftheRESETbutton will not stayengaged,discontinue use of
theairconditionerand contact a qualifiedservicetechnician.
Air conditioner does not
cool as it should. Indoor airflow is restricted. Makesurethereare not curtains, blindsorfurniture blocking thefrontofthe air conditioner.
The temp control may not be set
properly. Turnthe temperaturecontrolto a higher number.
The air filter is dirty. Cleanthefilterat least every 30days. SeeCare and Cleaning
section.
Theroommay have been hot. Whenthe air conditioner isfirstturned on, you needtoallow
timefortheroom to cool down.
Coldairis escaping. Check for openfurnaceregistersand cold airreturns.
Cooling coils have iced up. See“Airconditionerfreezing up” below.
Air conditioner freezing up Ice blocks the air flow and stops
the air conditioner from cooling the
room.
Onmodelswithcontrol knobs, set themodecontrol at High
FanorHighCool with the Tempat1 or 2.
Water drips outside Hot, humid weather. Thisisnormal.
Water drips inside The air conditioner is not tilted to
the outside. Forproperdisposal,make sure the airconditionerslants slightlyfromthecase front to therear.
Water collects in base pan Moisture removed from air and drain
into base pan. Thisisnormalfor a short periodinareas with little humidity; normalforalonger period in veryhumidareas.
TROUBLESHOOTING

•You may hear a pinging noise caused by water beingpickedupandthrownagainstthecondenseronrainydays or when the
humidityis high. This design feature helps remove moisture and improveefficiency.
•You may hear the thermostat click when the compressor cyclesonandoff.
•Water will collect in the base pan duringhigh humidity oronrainydays.Thewatermayoverflowanddripfrom the outdoor
sideofthe unit.
•The fan may run even when the compressor does not.
•Water droplets being thrown against the outside coils can makeapingingnoise.Thishelpscoolthecondenser. Youcan
reducethis noise by removing the subbase water plug.
Toensure maximum efficiency it is recommended to check to ensuretherubberdrainplugisproperlyinserted. Thisplug
maybe removed during operation to minimize water in the backoftheunit;however,removingitwilllowertheefficiency
ofyour unit.
NOTE: Donot drill hole in the base pan.
