Observe the following precautions to ensure safety.
CAUTION
WARNING
After the power is turned on, the blade temperature reaches approx. 200°C to 800°C (392°F to 1472°F).
Improper handling may cause burns or fire. Be sure to observe the following precautions:
Do not touch any metal area in the vicinity of blades.
Never use FT-800 near paper or other flammable materials.
Inform others in the area that the product is hot and should not be touched.
Turn the power off when not in use.
Before changing parts or storing the unit, be sure to turn the power off and allow the unit to cool to room
temperature.
Observe the following precautions to prevent accidents or damage to the unit.
Do not use the HAKKO FT-800 for applications other than wire stripping.
To remove stripped insulation waste, do not apply excessive force to the unit such as striking the blade
against the workbench.
Do not modify the HAKKO FT-800.
Do not allow the HAKKO FT-800 to become wet, and do not use it with wet hands.
Since smoke is produced when using the wire stripper, be sure to ventilate the work area fully.
Do not take any actions that might be dangerous.

l Connection cord
Pass the connection cord through the hole of the
heat resistant pad.
l Blade attachment
1. Install the blades into the handpiece in the
correct direction as shown in the figures.
2. When attaching the blades, press them firmly
until the flange is locked into the handpiece.
NOTE:
Unless both blades are inserted fully, the blades
will not heat. Verify the flange of the blade comes
in contact with the handpiece.
CAUTION
Be sure to use the accessory heat
resistant pad when inserting or
removing the blade. Use the heat
resistant pad even when the blade is
not hot.
l Lead adjustor attachment
The lead adjustor is used to set the wire
stripping length. See attachment directions for
proper installation.
NOTE:
The lead adjustor can set the wire strip length
from 1 - 19 mm or 20 - 38 mm.
The lead adjustor is marked with a 1 mm interval
scal. (Refer to the figure at right)
l Turn on the power switch.
The FT-800 station has a power save lamp and
the FT-8001 has a heater lamp.
 After turning on the power, the heater lamp on
the FT-8001 will flash. The power save lamp on
the FT-800 station is lit when the FT-8001 is
placed in the handpiece holder.
 When using the FT-8001, take the FT-8001 out
of the handpiece holder. When the temperature
stabilizes, the heater lamp will change from
flashing to being continuously lit.
l Power save mode
When the FT-8001 is placed in the handpiece
holder, the power save mode is on. When in the
power save mode, the blade temperature is
reduced by approx.50% (under 300°C;572°F).
Status of lamps during the power save mode
l Temperature setting
1. Set the temperature adjustment knob to the
desired level.

NOTE:
Aging of the blade heater may deteriotate the
blade performace. If such a deterioration results
in a difficulty in melting the wire insulation, use
the temperature adjustment knob to raise the
temperature setting of the blade.
CAUTION
Since the temperature of the blade is very hot,
place the FT-8001 in the handpiece holder when
not using it.

NOTE:
The blade temperature is determined for each
level as a reference, not as a guaranteed
temperature. The actual blade temperature will
decrease gradually with the aging of the blades.

Power save mode
Operation mode
l Connection
1. Connect the plug of the connection cord to the
receptacle.
2. Place the FT-8001 in the handpiece holder.
3. Insert the power plug into the plug outlet.
CAUTION
Turn off the power before inserting or removing
the plug of the connection cord from the recepta-
cle. The P.W.B. may be damaged if the power is
left on when inserting or removing the plug.
2. Locking the temperature adjustment knob. The
temperature adjustment knob is equipped with a
lock function. (Refer to the figure at right.)
 After setting the temperature, tighten the
hexagon nut (clockwise) in the knob mount with
the hexagon wrench
CAUTION
Do not tighten the hexagon nut excessively.
CAUTION
Do not attempt to turn the temperature
adjustment knob with the knob locked.
NOTE:
The FT-8001 can be placed in the handpiece
holder with the heater lamp facing upward or
downward.

6. MAINTENANCE
Performing proper and periodic maintenance ensures proper operation of the tool and extends the product
life. Apply the following service procedure as dictated by the conditions of the usage.
l Blade

2. Interruption
If the blades become oxidized, it will be difficult to melt the
insulation. Remove oxide and stripped insulation waste from the
blades with a wire brush. Use light pressure when cleaning the
blades. Excessive pressure can damage the blades and shorten
blade life.
Do not clean the blades when they are hot.
When not using the unit, be sure to place it in the handpiece
holder. Operating the blades at high temperature without
stripping insulation for extended time may shorten the heating
element life. If you will not use the unit for a long time, turn off the
power switch.

lHow to replace the fuse
Check the heating element for electric error.
Measure the heater element at room temperature (15 to 25°C; 59
to 77°F).
Normal detection is 9Ω±10%. If resistance value is abnormal,
replace the blade with a new one.
1. Attach normal blades (with normal heater resistance) to both
handles.
2. Measure the resistance between the connector pins.
Between pin 1 and pin 5: 8.1 to 9.9Ω.
If the resistance value is different from the above figures,
replace the FT-8001.
Desolder the fuse and replace it with a new fuse. (Refer to the
figure in “Parts list”.

l Removing wire insulation
1. Align the wire end to the lead adjuster.
2. Pinch the wire in the proper hole between the
blades in accordance with the wire diameter. The
pinched section will be melted by the heated
blades. (Refer to the drawing of the blade in the
parts list.)
3. Turn the wire and blade to spread the heat
uniformly over the insulation.
4. Slide the blade toward the end of the insulation.
l Use of reverse action switch
By operating the reverse action switch, the blade
opening or closing conditions can be selected
according to your work details.
lWhen the indication mark “R” is displayed: The
blades are closed and can be opened by
pressing the back of the button.
lWhen the indication mark “N” is displayed: The
blades are in normal position and can be closed
by pressing the front side of the button.

7. TROUBLE SHOOTING GUIDE
WARNING
• Before repairing the unit, be sure to disconnect the power plug. Failure to do so may cause
electric shock.
l The unit does not operate even
when the power switch is turned
on.
l The power save lamp flashes.

l The power save lamp flashes 2
times consecutively.
CHECK : Is the power cord or the connection plug disconnected?
ACTION : Connect the power cord and the connection plug.
CHECK : Is the fuse blown?
ACTION : Investigate why the fuse blew and then replace the fuse.
Even if the cause can not be determined, replace the fuse.
If the fuse blows again, send the entire unit for repair.
CHECK : Are the blades inserted firmly?
ACTION : Insert the blades fully.
CHECK : Is the connection cord disconnected? Is the heating
element broken?
ACTION : Refer to how to check the disconnection of connection cord
and breakage of the heating element.
ACTION : Turn on the power switch again.
CHECK : If the same phenomenon occurs again, it is assumed that
the unit has undergone a system error. Return the unit for
repair.
