Oncethespeakershavebeenplacedin the
room and connected,the remainingstepsin
the setupprocessareto programtheAVR11O's
bassmanagementsystemforthe type of
speakersusedin your system,calibratethe
output levels,and setthe delaytimesusedby
the surround-soundprocessoc
TheAVR110 featuresanadvancedmemory
systemthat enablesyouto establishdifferent
configurationsfor the speakerconfiguration,
surroundmode,delaytimes,and output levels
for eachinputsource.Thisflexibilityenables
youto custom-tailorthe way in which youlis-
ten to eachsourceand havetheAVR110
memorizethosesettings.Thismeans,for exam-
ple,that you mayusedifferentoutput levelsor
tzimsfor differentsources,or setdifferent
speakerconfigurationswith the resultant
changesto the bassmanagementsystem.Once
thesesettingsaremade,theywiltautomatically
be recalledwheneveryouselectthat input.
ThefactorydefaultsettingsfortheAVR110
haveall inputsconfiguredfor an analogsource,
stereoasthe surroundmode,the front left and
right speakerssetto "large,"and a subwoofer
connected.Beforeusingthe unit, youwilt prob-
ablywant to changethe settingsfor most
inputssothat theyareproperlyconfiguredto
reflectthe useof digital or analoginputs,the
type ofspeakersinstalledandthe surround
modespecifics.Rememberthat sincethe
AVR110 memorizesthe settingsfor eachinput
individually,youwill needto maketheseadjust-
mentsfor eachinput used.However,oncethey
aremade,furtheradjustmentis onlyrequired
when systemcomponentsarechanged.
Onceyou havecompletedthe settingsfor the
first input,manysettingsmaybeduplicatedfor
the remaininginputs.Rememberthat oncethe
settingsaremadefor oneinput,they mustbe
madefor all other input sourcesin your system.
Youarenowreadyto poweruptheAVR110to
beginthesefinaladjustments.
1. Plugthe Power Cord_) into an
unswitchedACoutlet.
2. Pressthe Main Power Switch[] in so
that it latchesin and isflushwith the front
panel.Notethat the Power Indicator []
will turn amber,indicatingthat the unit is
inthe Standbymode.
3. installthe threesuppliedAAA batteriesin
the remoteasshown.Becertainto follow
the (+) and (-) polarityindicatorsthatare
on the bottom of the batteUcompartment.
4.TurntheAVR110 oneitherby pressingthe
System Power Control [] onthe front
panel,orvia the remoteby pressinganInput
Selector _t1_O onthe remote.The
Power Indicator [] will turn greento con-
firm thatthe unit ison,andthe Information
Display [] andother indicators[][] also
lightup.
Speaker Configuration
Theseadjustmentstell the AVR110 whichtype
of speakersarein use.Thisisimportant as it
adjuststhe settingsthat determinewhich
speakersreceivelow-frequency(bass)informa-
tion. Foreachof thesesettingsusethe
L ARGE setting if the speakersfor a
particularpositionaretraditional full-range
loudspeakersthat arecapableof reproducing
soundsbelow 100Hz.Usethe SMALL set-
ting for smaltehfrequency-limitedsatellite
speakersthat do not reproducesoundsbelow
100Hz.Notethat when "small" speakersare
used,a subwooferisrequiredto reproduce
low-frequencysounds.Rememberthat the
"large" and "small" descriptionsdo not refer
to the actual physicalsizeof the speakers,but
their abilityto reproducelow-frequency
sounds.If you arein doubt asto which cat-

With theAVR110 turnedon,follow thesesteps
to configurethe speakers:
1. PuttheAVR110 in the DotbyProLogic
modebypressingthe SurroundMode
Selector[] onthe front panelor by
pressingthe SurroundMode Selector
on the remote,untit PRO LOGIC
appearsin theMain Information Display
[] andthePROLOGICindicator[] lights.
2. Pressthe Speakerbutton I_D R,_on the
remoteor front panel.Thewords FNT
SPEAKER wilt appearin the Main
Information Display[].
3. Pressthe Set button _R,n.
4. Pressthe A/T buttons_)_ on the
remoteor the SelectorbuttonsI_ on the
front paneluntil eitherLARGE or
SMALL appears,matchingthe typeof
speakersyouhaveat the left-front and
right4ront positions,asdescribedbythe
definitionsshownin precedingsection.
WhenSMALL isselected,low-frequency
soundswilt besentto the subwooferoutput
only.Notethat ifyouchoosethisoption,
andthereisnosubwoderconnected,you
wiltnot hearanylow-frequencysoundsfrom
thefrontchannels.
WhenLARGE isselected,a fult4angeout-
putwill besentto the front-leftandfront-
rightoutputs,andNOIow-fiequencysignals
wiltbesentto the subwoderoutput.
5.Whenyouhavecompletedyourselectionfor
the fiont channel,presstheSet button
41_R_I1,andthen pressthe ,ill,/T buttons
_D_ on theremoteor the Selector
buttons[] onthe flont panelto change
the displayto CEN SPEAKER.
6. Pressthe Set button 41_RJI1again,and
usethe A/T buttons!_)_I onthe
remote,or the Selector buttons[] onthe
front panel,to selectthe option that best
describesyoursystembasedon the speaker
definitionsshownin precedingsection.
WhenCEN SMALL isselected,Iow-fie-
quencycenter-channelsoundswiltbesent
to the subwooferoutputonly.Notethat if
youchoosethisoptionandthereisno sub-
wooferconnected,youwilt nothearany
low-frequencysoundsfromthe center-chan-
nelspeakec
WhenCEN LARGE isselected,a full-
rangeoutput will besentto thecenter-
speakeroutput,and NOcenterchannelsig-
nalwilt besentto the subwooferoutput.
WhenCEN NONE isselected,no signals
will besentto the center-channeloutput.
Thereceiverwill operatein a "phantom"
center-channelmodeandcenter-channel
informationwill be sentto the left- and
righbfront channeloutputs.
