120-vottAC current.Connectionto aline volt-
ageotherthanthat for which it isintended
cancreatea safetyand fire hazardand may
damagethe unit.
Ifyouhaveanyquestionsaboutthevoltage
requirementsforyourspecificmodel,orabout
the linevottagein yourarea,contactyourselling
dealerbeforepluggingtheunit intoawaltouttet.
Do Not UseExtension Cords
Toavoidsafetyhazards,useonlythe power
cordattachedto your unit.We do not recom-
mendthat extensioncordsbeusedwith this
product.Aswith all electricaldevices,do not
runpowercordsunderrugsor carpetsor place
heavyobjectsonthem. Damagedpowercords
shouldbe replacedimmediatelybyan author-
izedsewicedepotwith acordmeetingfactory

Handle the ACPower Cord Gently
Whendisconnectingthe powercordfrom an
ACouttet,alwaysputtthe plug- neverpull the
cord.If youdo not intendto usethe unit for
anyconsiderablelengthof time,disconnectthe
plug fromthe ACoutlet.
Do Not Open the Cabinet
Thereareno user-sewiceablecomponents
insidethis product.Openingthecabinetmay

Installation Location
• Toensureproperoperationand to avoidthe
potentialfor safetyhazards,placethe unit
on afirm andlevelsurface.Whenplacingthe
uniton a shelf,becertainthat the shelfand
anymountinghardwarecansupportthe
weight of the product.
• Makecertainthat properspaceisprovided
bothaboveand belowthe unit for ventila-
tion. If this productwill beinstalledin a
cabinetor other enclosedarea,makecertain
that thereissufficientair movementwithin
the cabinet.Undersomecircumstances,a
fan mayberequired.
• Donot placethe unit directlyon acarpeted
surface.
• Avoid installationin extremelyhot orcold
locations,or in anareathat isexposedto
directsunlightor heatingequipment.

Cleaning
Whenthe unitgetsdirty,wipeit with a clean,
soft,drycloth.If necessa_/,wipe it with a soft
clothdampenedwith mildsoapywater,then a
freshclothwith cleanwater.Wipedryimmedi-
atelywith a do/cloth. NEVERusebenzene,
aerosolcleaners,thinne_,alcoholor anyother
volatilecleaningagent.Donot useabrasive
deanels,astheymaydamagethe finishof metal
parts.Avoidsprayinginsecticidenearthe unit.
Moving the Unit
Beforemovingthe unit, becertainto discon-
nectanyinterconnectioncordswith othercom-
ponents,and makecertainthat youdisconnect
the unit flora theACoutlet.
Important Information for the User
Thisequipmenthasbeentestedand foundto
complywith the limits for a Class-Bdigital
device,pursuantto Part15 of theFCCRules.
Thelimits are designedto providereasonable
protectionagainstharmfulinterferencein a

Unpacking
Thecartonand shippingmaterialsusedto pro-
tect yournewreceiverduring shipmentwere
speciallydesignedto cushionit fromshockand
vibration.Wesuggestthat yousavethe carton
and packingmaterialsfor usein shippingif you
move,or shouldthe unit everneedrepaiL
Tominimizethe sizeof the cartonin storage,
youmaywishto flatten it. Thisisdoneby cam-
fully slittingthe tape seamson the bottomand
collapsingthe carton.Othercardboardinserts
maybe storedinthe samemanner.Packing
materialsthat cannotbecollapsedshouldbe
savedalong with the cartonin a plasticbag.

Werecommendthat you usehigh-qualityinter-
connectcableswhenmakingconnectionsto
sourceequipmentand recordersto preservethe
integrityof the signals.
Whenmakingconnectionsto audiosource
equipmentor speakersit isalwaysa goodprac-
ticeto unplugthe unit fromthe ACwall outlet.
Thispreventsanypossibilityof accidentally
sendingaudioor transientsignalsto the speak-
ersthat maydamagethem.

spentto correctlyconfigureandcalibratethe
unit wiii greatlyaddto yourlisteningexperience.
Speaker Selection and Placement
Theplacementof speakersin a muItichannet
home-theatersystemcan havea noticeable
impactonthe qualityof soundreproduced.
No matterwhich type or brand of speakersis
used,the samemodelor brandof speaker
shouldbe usedfor the left front, centerand
right front speakers.Thiscreatesaseamless
front soundstageand eliminatesthe possibility
of distractingsonicdisturbancesthat occur
when asoundmovesacrossmismatched
front-channelspeakers.
Speaker Placement
Dependingon thetype ofcenter-channel
speakerin useand yourviewingdevice,place
the centerspeakereitherdirectlyaboveor
belowyourTV,or in the centerbehinda perfo-
rated front projectionscreen.
Oncethe center-channelspeakerisinstalled,
positionthe leftfront andright front speakers
sothat they areas farawayfrom one another
asthecenter-channelspeakerisfromthe pre-
felredlisteningposition.Ideaily,thefront-channel
speakersshouldbe placedsothattheirtweeters
areno morethan24" aboveor belowthe
tweeter in the center-channelspeaker.
Dependingonthe specificsof yourroom
acousticsand the typeof speakersin use,you
mayfind that imagingis improvedbymoving
the left front andright front speakersslightly
folward ofthe center-channelspeakekIf possi-

Usingtheseguidelines,you'llfindthat it takes

the front of the room,about sixinchesfrom a
wall, or nearthe front cornerof the room.
Another methodisto temporarilyplacethe
subwooferatyour normallisteningposition,
and thenwalk aroundthe room until youfind
a spotwherethe subwoofersoundsbest. Ptace

ten to eachsourceand havetheAVR110
memorizethosesettings.Thismeans,for exam-
ple,that you mayusedifferentoutput levelsor
tzimsfor differentsources,or setdifferent
speakerconfigurationswith the resultant
changesto the bassmanagementsystem.Once
thesesettingsaremade,theywiltautomatically
be recalledwheneveryouselectthat input.
ThefactorydefaultsettingsfortheAVR110
haveall inputsconfiguredfor an analogsource,
stereoasthe surroundmode,the front left and
right speakerssetto "large,"and a subwoofer
connected.Beforeusingthe unit, youwilt prob-
ablywant to changethe settingsfor most
inputssothat theyareproperlyconfiguredto
reflectthe useof digital or analoginputs,the
type ofspeakersinstalledandthe surround
modespecifics.Rememberthat sincethe
AVR110 memorizesthe settingsfor eachinput
individually,youwill needto maketheseadjust-
mentsfor eachinput used.However,oncethey
aremade,furtheradjustmentis onlyrequired
when systemcomponentsarechanged.
Onceyou havecompletedthe settingsfor the
first input,manysettingsmaybeduplicatedfor
the remaininginputs.Rememberthat oncethe
settingsaremadefor oneinput,they mustbe
madefor all other input sourcesin your system.

Speaker Configuration
Theseadjustmentstell the AVR110 whichtype
of speakersarein use.Thisisimportant as it
adjuststhe settingsthat determinewhich
speakersreceivelow-frequency(bass)informa-
tion. Foreachof thesesettingsusethe
L ARGE setting if the speakersfor a
particularpositionaretraditional full-range
loudspeakersthat arecapableof reproducing
soundsbelow 100Hz.Usethe SMALL set-
ting for smaltehfrequency-limitedsatellite
speakersthat do not reproducesoundsbelow
100Hz.Notethat when "small" speakersare
used,a subwooferisrequiredto reproduce
low-frequencysounds.Rememberthat the
"large" and "small" descriptionsdo not refer
to the actual physicalsizeof the speakers,but

Output Level Adjustment
Output leveladjustmentisa keypartof the
configurationprocessforanysurround-sound
product.It isparticularlyimportantfora Dolby
Digitalreceiversuchasthe AVR110,ascorrect
outputs will ensurethat you hearsoundtracks
in theirproperplacewith the properdirection-
ality andintensity.
IMPORTANT NOTE:Listenersareoftencon-
fusedabout the operationof the surround
channels.While someassumethat sound
shouldalwaysbecomingfrom eachspeakeh
most ofthe timethere will be little or no
soundin the surroundchannels.Thisisbecause
theyare only usedwhen a moviedirectoror

Delay Settings
Duethe differentdistancesbetweenthe front-
channelspeakersandthe listeningposition
comparedto the surroundspeakersandthe lis-
tening position,the amountof time it takesfor
soundto reachyour earsfrom the front or sur-
roundspeakersisdifferent.Youmaycompen-
satefor this differencethroughthe useofthe
delaysettingsto adjustthe timingto tailor the
specificspeakerplacementandacousticcondi-

Thefactorysettingis appropriatefor most
rooms,but someinstallationscreatean uncom-
mondistancebetweenthe front andsurround

Toresynchronizethe front and surroundchan-

1. Measurethe distancefrom the listening/
viewingpositionto the front speakers.
2. Measurethe distancefrom the listening/

3.Subtlactthe distanceto the surroundspeak-
ersfrom thedistancetothe flont speakers.
a.Whensettingthe delaytime for the
DolbyDigitalsurroundmodes,the opti-
maldelaytime isthe resultof that sub-
t_action.Forexample,if the front speak-
ersareten feetawayandthe surround
speakersarefive feetaway,the optimal
delaytime isfiguredas10-5-5. Thus,in
thisexample,the delaytimefor DoIby
Digitalshouldbesetat fivemilliseconds.
b.Whensettingthe delaytime for the
ProLogicmode,takethe resultof the
subtractionandadd15 to obtainthe

front speakersareten feet awayand the
