IMPORTANTNOTE:TheAVR220'sremote
maybeprogrammedto controlupto eight
devices,includingthe AVR220. Beforeusingthe
remote,it isimportantto rememberto pressthe
Input SelectorButton O that corresponds
to the unityouwishto operate.Inaddition,the
AVR220'sremoteisshippedfromthe factoryto
operatetheAVR220 andmost HarmanKardon
CDor DVDplayersandcassettedecks.The
remoteisalsocapableof operatingawide vari-
etyof otherproductsusingthe controlcodes
that arepartof the remote.Beforeusingthe
remotewith otherproducts,followthe instruc-
tionson pages33-36 to programthe proper
codesfor the productsin yoursystem.
It isalsoimportantto rememberthat manyof
the buttonson the remotetakeondifferent
functions,dependingonthe productselected
usingthe DeviceControlSelectors.Thedescrip-
tionsshownhereprimarilydetailthe functions
of the remotewhen it isusedto operatethe
AVR220.(Seepage34 forinformationabout
alternatefunctionsforthe remote'sbuttons.)
O Power Off Button: Pressingthis button
turnsoff (placesinthe Standbymode)thedevice
thatwaslastselectedbypressingoneofthe
Input Selectorsq_l. ToplacetheAVR220 in
the Standbymode,firstpressthe AVRSelector
Button _ andthenpressthisbutton.
IRTransmitter Window: Pointthiswin-
dowtowardstheAVR220whenpressingbuttons
onthe remoteto makecertainthat infraredcom-
mandsareproperlyreceived.
Program/SPLIndicator:Thisthree-color
indicatorisusedto guideyouthroughthe
processof programmingthe remoteand it is
alsousedasa levelindicatorwhenusingthe
remote'sEzSetcapabilities.(Seepage21for
moreinformationon settingoutput levels,and
seepage33for informationon programming
the remote.)
OPower On Button: Pressthisbutton
toturn onpowertothe devicethat waslast
selectedbypressingoneof theInput Selectors
_. Toturn ontheAVR220,presstheAVR
SelectorButtonO.
Input Selectors:Pressingoneof these
buttonswill performthreeactionsatthe same
time. First,if the AVR220 isnot turnedon, this
will powerupthe unit. Next,it will selectthe
sourceshownon the button asthe inputto the
AVR220. Finally,it will changethe remotecon-
trol sothat it controlsthe deviceselected.After
pressingone ofthesebuttonsyoumustpress
the AVRSelectorButton _ againto oper-
ate theAVR220'sfunctionswith the remote.
AVRSelector: Pressingthisbuttonwill
switchthe remotesothat it will operatethe
AVR220'sfunctions.IftheAVR220isinthe
Standbymode,it will alsoturntheAVR220on.
qi_ AM/FM TunerSelect: Pressthisbutton to
selecttheAVR220'stuner asthe listening
choice.Pressingthis button whenthe tuner is
alreadyin usewill switchbetweenthe AM and
FMbands.
TestButton: Pressthisbuttonto begin
the sequenceusedto calibratetheAVR220's
output levels.(Seepage21for moreinformation
oncalibratingtheAVR220.)
Sleep Button: Pressthisbutton to place
the unit in the Sleepmode.Afterthe time
shownin the display,the AVR220 will auto-
maticallygo into the Standbymode.Eachpress
of the button changesthe time untilturn-off in
the following order:

changechannelson a separatedevicewhen
the remoteis in AVRmode.
Night Mode: Pressthis button to activate
the Night mode.Thismodeisavailablein spe-
ciallyencodeddigitalsources,andit preserves
dialog(centerchannel)intelligibilityat low
volumelevels.
Channel Select Button:Thisbuttonis
usedtostartthe processofsettingtheAVR220's
outputlevelsto anexternalsource.Oncethisbut-
ton ispressed,usethe AIr Buttonsl[_l_
to selectthechannelbeingadjusted,thenpress
theSet Button qi_, followedbythe AIr
Buttons _ again,to changethelevelset-
