Description
TAURAUS C1 is a dental chair and units to be used to take for diagnosis and therapy of patients.
It consists of the main unit and accessories.
The dental chair is used for patient to sit during the dental diagnosis, treatment and /or operation.
The dental unit consists of patient chair, dentist table with instrument holders, assistant table,
water unit, arm system, cuspidor (spittoon) and dental light. The dental unit system is used by
trained dentists and /or dental assistants to supply air, water, vacuum and electrical power to
dental devices and accessories to allow the dental practitioner an intuitive control center for all
common and normal patient treatment procedures performed in the dental operatory.
INDICATIONS FOR USE:
The TAURUS C1 Dental System and accessories are intended for use in general dental applications
by providing the dental practitioner a user interface to control operation of the dental chair and
attached dental devices. The system delivers air, water, vacuum and electricity to allow the dental
practitioner an intuitive control center for all common and normal patient treatment procedures
performed in the dental operatory.

2.1 Safety Indication
This manual shows symbols as below in the contents to enable operators to use products in
the safe and proper way to prevent any property damage or physical injury in advance.

Observe all safety related requirements.
2.1.1 Danger, Warning and Caution Labels
For safe usage, we classify three types of warning labels to prevents property loss
and physical injury.
CAUTION
Means if the precaution is not taken, it may cause minor or moderate injury.
WARNING
Means if the warning is not heeded, it can cause death or serious injury.
DANGER
Means if the dander is not avoided, it will cause death or serious injury.

2.2 Right use of way to operate unit
2.2.1 General information
The operator should check if the unit is in a normal condition before operating the device.
“Proper way to operate” refers to the instruction for use, inspection and the scope of
warranty service.

The responsibility of Hatch Group Inc. for the product performance, reliability and
safety: Hatch Group Inc. manufacturers its products in compliance with domestic
and internationalstandard. The installation, retrofitting, modification, replacement,
maintenance andrepair work should be performed only by Hatch Group Inc.
technical staffs or contractorsauthorized by Hatch Group Inc.. Maintenance and
installation of all Hatch Group Inc. products shouldbe performed according to the
instruction manual.
Operation conditions, such as the installation environment, stated in this manual should
be maintained. Hatch Group Inc. does not assume any liability against damages,
accidents and malfunctions caused by natural disaster such as fire, earthquake,
flooding and lightning.

Operators should comply with followings :
Protect themselves or 3rd party from dangers.
Prevent contamination of product.
Comply with the operation conditions and instructions.
WARNING
The operator should be responsible for proper operation and maintenance of this
device (hospitals, dental clinics).
Also any other persons other than dentists or hygienists should not use this dental
chair unit.
WARNING
Mobile and high-frequency communication signals may influence the operation of this
device.
NOTE
Waste from product should be disposed and recycled in order to prevent environmental
contamination. For details, refer to and comply with local regulations.
NOTE
The manufacturer does not guarantee the safety of transformer or other
electrical components which are not in compliance with EMC requirement of
EN60601-1-2.

If the dental chair unit has been out of operation for more than a few days, it should
be inspected and cleaned according to the instructions.
Use only genuine parts provided by Hatch Group Inc..
2.3 Safety Guide
2.3.1 General information
NOTE
The system safety and reliability can be guaranteed only if the system operates in
compliance with the stipulations described in this manual .
WARNING
This product should be used for dental treatment purpose only.
WARNING
When mechanical parts are damaged, it may cause physical injuries.
▶For parts damaged during the operation, stop the operation immediately and contact
a service technician.
▶The insulation of electrical components should be inspected regularly.
CAUTION
This device may be affected by harmful electronic interference.
This device’s operation may be interfered by a high frequency communication device.
▶Refrain from using mobile phone in a hospital or dental clinic.
▶Turn off the power of data storage devices and portable hearing aids.
▶For using a high frequency communication device nearby, turn off the chair’s main
power. Otherwise, this may result an unpredicted breakdown or malfunction.
CAUTION
A pace maker implanted in a patient may be influenced by electromagnetic signal.
▶Check with patients before treatment.
▶Do not use a scaler on a patient with a pace maker.

2.3.2 Features of product
CAUTION
Avoid an injury to the patient or operator while the device is in use.
▶Pay attention when the operating unit is in use.
▶Do not stand on the chair and jump down.
▶Do not put fingers, body parts or luggage near moving parts of the device.
▶Do not put more than 2 persons on the chair.
CAUTION
If the moving arm is overloaded, it may cause harm or injury to patients or
operators.
▶Do not apply overload to the arms of the table and the operating light.
▶Do not load the weight over 30N(3kgf) on the dentist table.
WARNING
When stretching out, a hand or sleeve may touch the instruments on the table or
in the holder causing injury or contamination.
▶Pay attention when stretching a hand to the instrument on the table or in the
holder.
CAUTION
Connecting a medical device system to the dental chair unit may cause electrical
shock.
▶In case of connecting IT devices to medical devices, follow the regulation of
EN60601-1-1.
CAUTION
Do not attach stickers or bonding tapes to instrument tubing.
▶Otherwise instrument tubing may be torn.
CAUTION
Bedsore
▶Bedsore may occur in case of a long term treatment.

CAUTION
Do not apply an excessive load to the tumbler filler.
Do not operate or disassemble the unit with an excessive force.
WARNING
▶Do not touch the light head lamp or adjacent parts during and after the
operation.
▶Do not stare at the lamp or illuminate it on the patients’ eye.
▶Cool down the lamp when replacing a bulb or disassembling it for a service
work done.
CAUTION
▶Drain out water from the device’s plumbing line for 3 minutes daily before a
treatment (instruments must be disconnected before drainage)
▶Water and air plumbing lines should be drained and cleaned before a weekend
and holidays.
▶Perform a proper disinfection and sterilization of instruments according to the
manufacturer’s guidelines.
▶Supply water in spittoon bowl and tumbler filler several times.
CAUTION
Turn off the operating unit when exchanging tips or burs of instruments.
▶If the tips and burs are replaced while the dental chair unit is in operation, it
may cause accident or injury.
▶If non-licensed component is used, it may cause accident or damage.
▶When putting back each instrument to the holder, do it slowly and firmly.

Installation
NOTE
The installation of this dental chair unit should be done in accordance with the
installation manual by Hatch Group Inc. technicians or authorized dealers only.
WARNIG
▶In order to avoid electrical shock, a protective earth should be also connected
when connecting the power to this dental chair unit.
▶If the dental chair unit is not securely assembled and fixed, it may fall down and
cause an accident or breakdown.
This dental chair unit should not be used in the range of voltage, frequency and
current (or power consumption) other than specified.
▶Each dental chair unit should be connected to a dedicated power circuit and
should be not shared with other dental chair unit on the same power source.
▶Otherwise, overheating or short circuit may occur.
This dental chair unit should not be installed in any damp or water-splashing area.
▶Otherwise, overheating or short circuit may occur.
Dental chair unit should not be installed in places where chemical products are
stored or gas generate.
▶Otherwise, electric shock or short circuit may occur.
Power cable, earth line and foot controller cable should be put in safe place away
from door or aisle side.
▶Otherwise, electric shock or short circuit may occur.
CAUTION
Dental chair unit should not be installed in places of inclination, vibration, shock
and any unsafe surrounding.
▶Otherwise, it may become reasons of malfunction or breakdown.
CAUTION
Do not use dental chair unit in places that it may be influenced by atmospheric
pressure, temperature, humidity, ventilation, sunlight, dusts or salt.
▶Otherwise, it may become reasons of malfunction or breakdown.

Connecting of instruments
The dental chair unit can be connected with handpiece instruments.
Types of instruments can connect to the dental chair unit are shown in 8.6.5.
CAUTION
All instruments should be connected to tubing before use.
3-WAY syringe also should be connected.
▶If the connection is not made firmly, air or water leakage may occur.
If an excessive force is used for connecting to tubing and cause bent or slanting,
it may result water or air leakage and risk of damage.
CAUTION
Instruments should be securely placed in the holder when not in use.
▶Unexpected activation of vacuum devices or rotary instruments may cause
damage or breakdown.
5.
Installation of filters
CAUTION
All filters should be installed before the operation.
▶ If filters or covers are not installed properly, instruments may not operate
properly or can be damaged.
In addition, water or air lines may be clogged.
NOTE
This dental chair unit is installed with the filters listed below.
▶Water filter, air filter, drain trap filter, spittoon trap, suction line filter,
HP lubrication oil particle filter, spittoon bowl valve filter (*Optional)

Dental chair unit operation
Do not put any objects underneath seat or place hands or other body parts to
moving part such as the backrest.
▶Doing so, it may cause physical injury or property damage/ breakdown of
the dental chair unit
The dental chair unit should not be installed in places of inclination, vibration,
shock or unsafe surroundings.
▶Only an authorized person should operate the dental chair unit.
▶Keep an eye on patients during the device operation.
▶Do not take any action which may cause risks to patients.
▶Do not place fingers, part of body on moving parts.
▶ Do not put more than 2 persons on the chair.
(such as a parent holding a child)
▶Anyone who is not being treated should not be nearby dental chair unit.
(children)
▶Avoid any actions which can be considered risky to the patient and may
cause accident, damage or breakdown.
Do not apply excessive weight to the table arm and the operating lamp arm.
Do not put heavy objects on, lean to or sit on the edge of seat, backrest,
headrest, dentist table or mouse tray.
▶Doing so, the dental chair unit may fall down causing damage, breakdown
and injury.
CAUTION
Make sure that the dental chair unit is operated properly and safely during a
patient treatment.
▶Otherwise, malfunction or breakdown may occur.
CAUTION
If a risky situation occurs such as collision during the chair movement, an
emergency stop should be performed by any of the following ways.
▶Press any switch in the doctor’s control panel.
▶Press any switch in the assistant’s control panel.
▶Press a foot controller pedal.
▶Press a safety switch (backrest or assistant table).

Functions
8.1 Turning on the main power
8.1.1 Connecting the main power plug
▶Confirm the operating voltage of the dental chair unit.
▶Connect the power plug to a power outlet.
▶ When disconnecting from the power outlet, hold the body of plug and pull it out
safely.
8.1.2 Main switch
CAUTION
Always turn off the main switch when not using the dental chair unit after
treatment or during a break or holidays.
▶Doing so may prevent unforeseen accidents or breakdown.
▶Close shut-off valves for water and air in junction box.
▶Turn on the main switch.
When turning on the main switch, the switch lights up in green indicating that the
dental chair unit is ready for use.
CAUTION
In case of using electrical mess around the dental chair unit, turn off the main
switch.
▶Electromagnetic wave may cause a malfunction of the dental chair unit
leading to accidents and breakdown.
▶Do not connect any equipment other than dental chair unit to the same
power outlet. The power outlet should be properly grounded.

8.2 Junction box
CAUTION
Do not put objects or step on the junction box.
A cover may be broken and cause property damage or physical injury.
8.2.1 Function of junction box

8.2.2 Shut-off valve for water and air
▶These valves open and close air and water supply to the dental chair unit.
Do not turn on /off valves with an excessive force.
▶ After closing shut-off valves, drain air and water from the 3-way syringe lines
inside of the dental chair unit before turning off the main switch.
CAUTION
To prevent water and air leakage, shut-off valve should be closed (OFF) when not
using the dental chair unit or at the end of daily operation.

8.3 Chair
CAUTION
Injury may occur during the movement of the chair to a programmed position.
▶Only an authorized person shall operate the dental chair unit.
NOTE
A thermo-sensor is installed in hydraulic pump for seat and backrest. If the chair
is in use continuously for a long period of time, the chair operation may stop to
cool down. Do not operate the chair during cool down.
CAUTION
Overloading the chair may cause the chair unit and adjacent parts to fall down
and cause physical injury to a patients and an operator.
▶To prevent the chair from falling down, do not exceed the maximum load of
150kg∙f.
▶Do not step on, lean to and sit on the edge of the headrest, backrest and
seat.
▶When operating the dental chair unit, keep an eye on the patient and the
position of the operator.
NOTE
Taurus C1 does not include any software.

8.3.1 Operation of movable armrest (Option)
▶This section is applicable to the movable armrest.(right side of the chair)
▶ The armrest can be swiveled by 160 degree for the patient’s convenience to enter
or exit from the chair.
CAUTION
Do not overload the armrest and adjacent parts. It may cause injury to the
patient and the operator.
▶Do not sit on the armrest.
▶The armrest moves forward and backward. Do not push or pull with excessive
force.
▶Pay attention when the patient enters to / exits from the chair to
avoid tripping over the armrest.
1)
Lift the armrest and turn it outward (right).
2)
To return to the original position, turn it to inward (left) until the ‘lock’ position.

8.3.2 Operation of headrest
▶The height and angle of the headrest should be adjusted according to the patient’s
size and the treatment position.
CAUTION
Do not overload the headrest and adjacent parts. It may cause injury to the
patient and the operator.
▶Do not sit on the headrest.
▶Clear the headrest when adjusting its position.
▶When adjusting the headrest position, keep an eye on the patient.

Adjusting the height of headrest
▶The maximum height adjustment for the headrest is 110mm.
▶Hold the bottom part of the headrest with both hands and raise it up.
▶When lowering it, push down the top.
2)
Adjusting the angle of headrest
▶The maximum angle adjustment of the headrest is 40°.
▶ When lowering, press and hold the bar button on the rear of the headrest and pull
it down as required.
▶When raising, just push up the headrest without pressing the bar button.
3)
Double links headrest (Option)
▶Loosen the knob in the rear of headrest. Position the headrest in a desired
location and tighten the knob firmly.
