mHub 4K Manual
mHub 4K is a HDBaseT-Lite (Class B) 4x4 matrix package capable of distributing
4K ULTRA HD* up to 40m / 131 ft. Two mirrored HDMI outputs can support local
displays or an AVR.
Please read this manual fully before attempting to set up your
HDanywhere™ mHub 4K system.

Cabling Advice
What is the best type of cable to use?
Currently you can use Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6e, Cat6a, Cat7 or Cat7a with HDanywhere products.
The baseline cable standard for HDanywhere systems is Cat5e. Slightly greater distances can be
achieved by using Cat6, or slightly better still with Cat7, which have thicker copper cores for easier
signal transfer.
Whichever network cable type you choose, ensure that the main wiring architecture is solid core,
not stranded patch cabling. Patch cabling can be used for the last few metres of a run (e.g. from a
wallplate) but should be avoided over longer runs as signal transfer over stranded cores is heavily
reduced.
The use of pre-made leads is not recommended unless you can be absolutely sure of their
construction credentials (i.e. solid core 568B)
Please note that CCA (Copper Clad Aluminium) cable is NOT supported
Shielded cables
Unlike other systems, shielded FTP cable is not a stipulation. If, however, you prefer this type of
cable please ensure compatible shielded accessories are used. Failure to terminate cable screen at
all points can induce interference rather than eliminating it.
Cabling best practice
Best practice advice is to always use a straight piece of cable terminated directly at the matrix and
the TV receiver ends.
HDBaseT with patch panels and wall plates
If the patch panels are terminated correctly, there is minimal loss of distance. The use of wallplates
and patch panels, however, has the potential to cause increased resistance on the cable,
introducing pinch points for signal transmission, and could reduce advertised transmission lengths.
Instead of using RJ45 wallplates, you can use brush plates to maintain the neat nish.
Connection termination
Terminate the cabling using RJ45 connectors to the 568B wiring standard.
IMPORTANT:
Please note that local building regulations may apply to the installation of cabling in properties. It
is important to check building regulations to guarantee that you are in accordance with the laws of
your territory.

Connecting up your system
Power o every HDMI source, every display / TV and the mHub 4K matrix.
Connect your HDMI source devices to the desired HDMI input port (numbered 1, 2,3 and 4) on
the central hub using HDMI cables. For Blu-Ray 3D and 4K, high-speed HDMI cables must be
used. These are usually under 8m in length. Using passive HDMI cables over 15m in length is not
recommended under any circumstances.
Connect the most commonly watched source device to HDMI input 1. If you are using a Satellite HD
receiver, connect this to HDMI input 1.
Connect the HDMI cables between the TV receivers and your chosen TVs / displays / projectors on
the relevant HDMI port.
Next connect the Cat cabling from the corresponding TV receiver locations to the HDBaseT (RJ45)
TV output ports (1, 2, 3 or 4.)
If being used, also connect the mirrored HDMI outputs to the AVRs or local displays.
Things to note:
When placing the TV receivers at their locations, do not block the vents on the receiver casing.
HDanywhere’s product warranty does not cover damage due to electrical disturbances. If possible,
safeguard equipment by connecting the provided power supplies to an electrical surge suppressor
/ line conditioner.
Powering your mHub 4K system on for the rst time
Step 1- Power the HDTVs on at the mains. Bring them out of standby mode and select the HDMI
input that the HDBaseT receiver is connected to. With some new displays input selection may need
to be done after the matrix is powered on.
Step 2- Power on the HDMI source devices at the mains and bring them out of standby mode.
Sky+HD boxes take one minute or so to fully power on.
Step 3- Connect the power cable to the mHub 4K matrix and power it on at the mains. All HDTVs
should now be displaying the selected HDMI source device video and audio.
Things to note:
On initial power on the System LED will blink Orange whilst the unit is booting. Once booted the
LED with show Green. If an ethernet cable is connected to the unit from a router the HeartBeat LED
will also show Green. If no ethernet cable is connected, the HeartBeat LED will show Red.
mhub 4K is designed to be powered on constantly, using low power consumption. In some cases,
when the system has been powered o fully at the mains for over 15 minutes, steps 1-3 (see above)
may need to be repeated to sync the HDTVs again with the HDMI source devices.

Setting up IR
Step 1- Connect the IR TX emitter cables to the 3.5mm jack ports numbered 1,2,3 and 4 on mHub 4K’s
central hub. Position the IR TX emitter on the front of the corresonding HDMI input source, over the IR
receiving window.
Step 2- Now go to the display location. Connect the IR RX cable to the 3.5mm jack port on the HDBaseT-Lite
(Class B) display receiver and position it in sight of where you would usually point your remote control.
Step 3- If you are integrating an AVR using the HDMI output port(s) and wish to control volume in the AVR
zone, you can use the global IR port to do so. Simply connect an IR TX cable to the 3.5mm jack port labelled
“Global” on the central hub. Connect the IR RX cable to the 3.5mm jackport
Step 4- Test the basic IR set up by going to the display / TV that is connected to output 1 of the matrix. Use
the small matrix remote to select source 1. Now use the remote for the HDMI source that is connected to
input 1 to verify control. You could then repeat this process for each source device and you could also repeat
it at each display location. To test the global IR control of an AVR, use the AVR remote at your display location
and you should be able to control the volume in that zone.
Things to note when using two identical source devices
mHub 4K has discrete IR, so it is possible to have two or more identical source devices without annoying IR
clashes that would result in the operation of all identical devices. When using two or more identical source
devices, please take measures to avoid IR transmission leaks that could cause the other identical source
devices to respond. You can take measures to shield source devices from the IR being emitted by other
source device IR TX emitters by locating them on dierent shelves, for example.
Adding new sources / displays to the system
If at any time a connected source device or HDTV is changed to a dierent HDMI input port, or is replaced
with a dierent model, a hard reset and re-initialisation of the system is recommended.
To perform a hard reset:
Power down every device connected to the matrix: all sources and all HDTVs. Now power down the matrix.
Leave o at the mains for at least 10–15 minutes. Finally connect and power on the matrix again as if doing it
for the very rst time (see p.2).

Operating your system
Remote Control operation
Included with the mHub 4K 4x4 package is a small matrix remote control. This can operate the matrix via the IR RX cables
connected to TV receivers.
Third Party Control via RS232 port or over IP
Please visit www.hdanywhere.trade and hit “product info” then select “mHub 4K 4x4” to download third party integration drivers
we have available or the control codes for advanced user integration with third party hardware.

Control via the webOS interface
mHub 4K can be controlled and administered via a web interface that can be accessed via a web-browser on any PC, smartphone
or tablet.
Accessing webOS:
Step 1- To access the web interface of your mHub 4K matrix you will require the IP address of the unit. To get the IP address of
your mHub 4K unit visit www.hdconnectivity.com/support, type in ‘mHub 4K’, then click on the article titled ‘mHub 4K Network
Discovery Tool’. Download the Network Discovery Tool and this will show you the IP address.
Step 2- Enter the IP address of the mHub 4K matrix into a web browser. Google Chrome is the recommended browser to use.
Step 3- The login screen will be displayed. You will be asked for login details but you do not need them: simply hit ‘Access Modular’
and this will give you full access.
Accessing the Command Centre
The Command Centre allows you to remotely monitor all your installed mHub 4K and Modular matrixes in one location.
Step 1- You need to register an account at http://cmd.hdanywhere.com. If you are a HD Connectivity trade account holder, you
can use your trade login details to sync your account with the Command Centre.
Step 2- Once you have registered or synced your account you will be allocated a 4 digit code. This code will pop up on the screen
and also be sent to your trade account email address.
Step 3- Now access the webOS (for instructions on how to do this see above). Enter the 4 digit code in the Installer ID box under
the Heartbeat section of the webOS. This will link the Modular unit to your command centre account.
The Command Centre can be accessed via www.hdanywhere.trade. A link to the command centre is located in the navigation bar
at the top of the page. The direct URL for the Command Centre is http://cmd.hdanywhere.com

Troubleshooting
The LEDs on the mHub 4K central hub and HDBaseT-Lite receivers can be used to help troubleshoot a potential issue. Here is
what the LEDs represent.
On the Central Hub:
HDMI inputs - If the unit detects a powered HDMI source device, a small green LED will light adjacent to the HDMI input port.
• HDBaseT Outputs - If the unit is connected to the HDBaseT receiver, a small green LED next to the output socket(s) will light.
This indicates PoH is working to the display receiver.
• An orange LED will light above the Cat cable socket when a data link is made between the HDBaseT transmitter and display
receiver.
• If video is being sent over HDBaseT (usually once the connected display is switched on), a green ashing LED will also light
above the cat cable socket.
On the display receivers:
• An orange LED will light above the Cat cable socket when a data link is made between the HDBaseT transmitter and display
receiver. If video is being sent over HDBaseT (usually once the connected display is switched on),
• A green ashing LED will also light above the cat cable socket.
Should you encounter a problem when using an mHub 4Kmatrix, a soft power cycle or hard reset of the unit should resolve most
issues.
To perform a soft reset:
Push in the SD card and release. This will eject the SD card. Leave unit for 15-20 seconds then re-insert the SD card.
To perform a hard reset:
Power down every device connected to the matrix: all sources and all HDTVs. Now power down the Modular matrix. Leave o at
the mains for at least 10–15 minutes. Finally connect and power on the matrix again as if doing it for the very rst time (see p.2).
ISSUE 1: No/intermittent picture on HDTV, blocky images or sparkles
Fault nding
Drop the output resolution of the source device down to 1080i or 720p. If the picture appears correctly on the HDTV, this
indicates a bandwidth issue with the Cat cable run. The available bandwidth is too low for 1080p transmission. Check that the
Cat cable is not bent, knotted, kinked or distorted in any way that would prevent these high frequency signals from traveling
throughout the intended length.
Ensure that the RJ45 connectors are fully inserted and click locked into place rmly and securely to ensure perfect connector
connection.
This can be caused by:
• Electromagnetic interference aecting the Cat5e/6/7 cable due to proximity to power lines.
• Imperfect RJ45 connector termination.
• Use of wallplates or patch panels that cause too much bandwidth drop.
• Poor quality Cat cabling or internal cable strand breakages caused by poor production.
• Installation bending/strain/damage.
Possible xes:
• Relocate cable run away from possible interference from power line (minimum 60cm).
• Re-terminate RJ45 connectors or replace with better quality connectors.
• Remove wallplates and patch panels, replacing with direct cable runs and brush plates.
• Upgrade to better quality Cat5e/6/7 cable.
ISSUE 2: IR control not working, or only working intermittently
Fault nding
• Check the batteries in your remote control.
• Check that only IR RX cables are connected to the TV receivers and TX to the central hub.
• Double check and reposition the IR TX emitters so they are directly over the IR receiving windows on the source devices.
• Connect each IR cable one at a time until the last IR cable connected introduces the fault. Once discovered contact HD

Warranty Details
If your HDanywhere product does not work properly because of a defect in materials or
workmanship, HD Connectivity (referred to as “the warrantor”) will, for the length of the period
indicated, (THREE years) which starts with the date of original purchase (“Limited Warranty period”),
at its option either (a) repair your product with new or refurbished parts, or (b) replace it with a new
or a refurbished product. The decision to repair or replace will be made by the warrantor.
This Limited Warranty is extended only to the original purchaser and only covers product
purchased as new. A purchase receipt or other proof of original purchase date is required for
Limited Warranty service.
This Limited Warranty ONLY COVERS failures due to defects in materials or workmanship, and
DOES NOT COVER normal wear and tear or cosmetic damage. The Limited Warranty ALSO DOES
NOT COVER damages or failures which are caused by products not supplied by the warrantor,
or failures which result from accidents, misuse, abuse, neglect, mishandling, misapplication,
alteration, faulty installation, set-up adjustments, maladjustment of consumer controls, improper
maintenance, power line surge, lightning damage, modication, or service by anyone other than a
Factory Service Centre or other Authorised Service, or damage that is attributable to acts of God.
No responsibility can be accepted for damage caused to connected devices as a result of the use of
the system.
There are no express warranties except as listed under “limited warranty coverage”. The warrantor
is not liable for incidental or consequential damages resulting from the use of this product, or
arising out of any breach of this warranty.As examples, this excludes damages for lost time, cost of
having someone remove or re-install an installed unit if applicable, travel to and from the service
location, loss of or damage to media or images, data or other recorded content. The items listed
are not exclusive, but are for illustration only.
