you many year of dependable ervice. You or any other per on, who will be a embling, operating, maintaining or
working with thi product, are required to read and completely under tand the information and in truction
contained in thi manual. If anyone doe not fully under tand every part of thi manual, plea e obtain further
a i tance by contacting the dealer from which thi product wa purcha ed or by contacting HLA at the telephone
number or addre li ted on the previou page of thi manual. Keep thi manual available for reference whenever
thi product i being handled or u ed. Provide thi manual to any new owner and/or operator .

GENERAL INFORMATION
The purpo e of thi manual i to a i t you in afely a embling, mounting, operating and maintaining your Big
Arm. Read thi manual carefully to obtain valuable information and in truction that will help you achieve afe and
dependable ervice. The illu tration and data u ed in thi manual were current at the time of printing, but due to
po ible engineering and/or production change , thi product may vary lightly in detail. HLA re erve the right to
rede ign and/or change component a nece ary without notification.
Throughout thi manual, reference may be made to:
Power Unit The engine-driven machine to which thi product mu t be attached.
Right, Left, Front,

that product.

and on your power unit, loader and quick-attach.
• Know all your control and know how to quickly top all
power unit movement , the backhoe movement, and
the engine in ca e of emergency.
• Know and obey all applicable government rule ,
O.S.H.A regulation , local law and other profe ional
guideline for your operation.
• Make ure that anyone who will be a embling,
mounting, maintaining, repairing, removing and/or
toring thi product:

product and of the power unit and the quick-attach
to which thi product i attached.

• Know and follow good work practice when
a embling, mounting, maintaining, repairing,
removing and toring thi product:
Work on a level urface in a well lit area.
Keep the area clean and dry.
U e properly grounded electrical outlet and tool .
U e the right tool for the job at hand.
Make ure that your tool are in good condition for
performing the de ired function.
When u ing tool , wear the protective equipment
pecified by the tool manufacturer (i.e. hardhat,
afety gla e , work glove , protective hoe , etc.).
• Before leaving the operator’ tation or before
beginning any type of work on thi product, lower thi
product to the ground, apply your power unit’ parking
brake, top the engine, remove the tarter key, wait for
all moving part to top and then relieve all pre ure in
the hydraulic line . Refer to your power unit’
operator’ manual for in truction on how to relieve
hydraulic pre ure in line .
• Know your loader’ afe lifting and operating capacity
and the weight of thi product. See the pecification
in thi manual for the weight of thi product and refer
to your power unit’ and loader’ operator’ manual
for afe operating limit . Lift capacity may be reduced
if u ing a quick-attach.
• Never allow anyone, except the operator, to be around
the power unit or thi product when either i in motion.
• Do not tart up unle other are clear of the work
area.
• Do not allow rider on thi product or the power unit.
• Do not tand or climb on thi product when rai ed.
• Do not place any part of your body under any part of
thi product unle thi product i ecurely re ting on
adequate blocking or on the ground.
• Do not u e blocking made of concrete block , log ,
bucket , barrel or any other material that could
uddenly collap e or hift po ition . Do not u e wood
or teel blocking that how any ign of material
decay. Do not u e wood blocking that i warped,
twi ted or tapered.
• Never operate control from the ground. Operate the
control only from the operator’ tation.
• Never leave the equipment unattended with the engine
running or with thi product rai ed on the loader.
• Be aware of the added weight and width of thi
product. Reduce travel peed accordingly, e pecially
when traveling over rough ground.
• Keep thi product clo e to the ground and under
control when tran porting.
• When tran porting, be ure backhoe doe not block
view of vehicle light or road.

• Hydraulic fluid under pre ure can penetrate the kin
and cau e eriou injury or death. Hydraulic leak
under pre ure may not be vi ible!
• If any fluid penetrate the kin, GET IMMEDIATE
MEDICAL ATTENTION!!
• Wear afety gla e , protective clothing and u e a
ound piece of cardboard or wood when earching for
hydraulic leak . DO NOT USE YOUR HANDS!
• Before connecting or di connecting hydraulic ho e ,
read your tractor or power unit’ operator’ manual for
detailed in truction on connecting and di connecting
hydraulic attachment .
• Make certain that all part meet the pecification for
thi product when in talling or replacing hydraulic
ho e or fitting .
• After connecting hydraulic line :
Slowly and carefully rai e the loader and cycle the
rollback / dump cylinder to check ho e
clearance and to check for any interference.
Operate the hydraulic on thi product to check
ho e clearance and to check for any
interference.
Make certain that the ho e cannot interfere with
or actuate the quick-attach mechani m.
Make certain that ho e will not be pinched, or get
tangled, in any equipment.
• Do not lock the auxiliary hydraulic of your power unit
in the “ON” po ition.
• Refer to your power unit’ operator’ manual and thi
manual for procedure and interval , then in pect and
maintain the entire hydraulic y tem to in ure that the
fluid remain clean, that all device function properly
and that there are no fluid leak .
• Refer to the operator’ manual of your power unit,
your loader and your quick-attach for pecial or
detailed mounting in truction .
• Thi product hould fit onto the quick-attach or loader
arm of your power unit the ame a the original
product that were de igned by your loader / quick-
attach manufacturer.
• If thi product doe not fit properly, contact HLA before
operating.
• Never place your finger into the mounting plate or 3-
point hitch or loader hole . A light movement of the
power unit or thi product could cau e eriou injury.
• Make certain that all afety ign are in place and
legible. Refer to the afety ign page in thi manual for
the placement of afety ign for thi product.
• Replace all damaged or exce ively worn part and
hardware only with genuine HLA part or with properly
rated fa tener , hydraulic ho e or fitting .
• Make certain that all locking pin , latche and
connection device are properly in talled and ecured.
• Make certain that all protective guard , canopie ,
door , etc. are in place and ecure.
• Contact utility companie before digging. Know your
digging area! Avoid hitting underground cable and
pipe , overhead wire and other hazard .
• Never u e backhoe on a power unit that i not
equipped with a cab or ROPS, and operator re traint
( eat belt or equivalent device ).
• U e your Big Arm only for digging. Do not u e it to pull
thing , a a battering ram or attach chain , rope , etc.
to it.
• Do not u e your Big Arm to di lodge overhead object .
Object could fall and cau e injury.
• Do not attach a jack hammer to the backhoe.
• Be careful when rai ing loaded bucket. Object could
fall from bucket toward by tander or operator.
• Know your loader’ afe operating weight limit and the
weight of your loader attachment.
• Never dig clo e to the loader’ wheel or under the
loader; thi can cau e a cave in and vehicle overturn.
• Do not drive near the trench. Alway back away from
the trench before turning.
• Alway dump loaded bucket on uphill ide of backhoe
to minimize po ibility of up et.
• U e caution when working clo e to fence and ditche ,
or on uneven ground.
• Make no modification to you backhoe.
• When making repair , u e only genuine HLA part or,
for fa tener , hydraulic ho e or hydraulic fitting , u e
only properly rated part .
• Replacement part , for part with afety ign

SAFETY SIGN LOCATIONS
PLACEMENT OR REPLACEMENT OF SAFETY
SIGNS
1. Clean the area of application with non-flammable
solvent, then, wash the same area with soap and
water.
2. Allow the surface to fully dry.
3. Remove the backing from the safety sign, exposing the
adhesive surface.
4. Apply the safety sign to the position shown on the
diagram above and smooth out any bubbles.

INSTRUCTIONS
•Keep all safety signs clean and legible.

POWER UNIT SPECIFICATIONS
IMPORTANT Exceeding any of the recommended power unit pecification
• CAN re ult in damage to your power unit and/or thi product and

BACKHOE INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
1. Place thi product on a firm, level urface that i large enough to afely accommodate thi product, your power unit and all
worker involved in the mounting proce .
2. Be ure all connection point are properly ecured.
3. Refer to the operator’ manual( ) for your power unit, loader and quick-attach and follow the mounting in truction
contained therein.
4. Carefully rai e the loader arm and cycle the tilt cylinder to check clearance and to verify that all mounting procedure
have been ucce fully completed.
5. All power unit MUST have a port relief in talled on it hydraulic tilt circuit.
BACKHOE HYDRAULIC CONNECTION
1. Di connect the hydraulic ho e quick coupler from one another and attach the quick coupler to your power unit a per the
in truction in your power unit’ operator’ manual.
2. Carefully rai e the loader arm and cycle the tilt cylinder to check ho e clearance and to check any interference.

TO DIG:
1. Be ure the loader i on olid ground before digging or lifting load.
2. With the loader arm partially rai ed and the bucket cylinder partially extended, lowly curl the dipper tick toward the
loader (u ing the loader’ tilt control). The loader arm may need to be lowered or rai ed and/or the bucket cylinder
extended to allow the bucket to penetrate the oil.
3. A the bucket fill , extend the bucket cylinder and extend the dipper or rai e the loader arm to lift the bucket clear of
the hole.
4. The depth of the hole will be controlled by the amount the dipper i extended and the height of the loader arm .
• U e extreme care when working on hill ide . Alway dump loaded bucket on uphill ide of backhoe to minimize
po ibility of up et.
• Exerci e caution when working clo e to fence , ditche or on uneven ground.
DO NOT:
• Dig clo e to the loader’ wheel or under the loader. Thi could cau e a cave-in and vehicle overturn .
TO DUMP ON GROUND:
• With the bucket rai ed clear of the hole, lowly pivot the dipper tick ideway (right or left). Thi will wing the bucket
away from the trench and to the ide to dump.
• Keep load clo e to the ground while tran porting.
TO CUT A SHALLOW TRENCH:
1. With the loader arm partially rai ed and the bucket cylinder partially extended, lowly curl the dipper tick toward the
loader (u ing the loader’ tilt control). The loader arm may need to be lowered or rai ed to allow the bucket to
penetrate the oil.
2. When the bucket i po itioned at the de ired depth, lowly back up the loader, keeping the bucket height con tant to
cut a hallow amount of oil.

IMPORTANT
The tilt circuit of your power unit mu t be protected with a port relief; ignoring thi precaution
• CAN re ult in damage to your power unit and/or thi product and
• WILL void all HLA warrantie .
TO FILL A TRENCH:
1. With the loader arm partially rai ed, curl the dipper tick (attachment mainframe) forward with the bucket cylinder
extended and the bottom of the bucket flat on the ground. The entire height of the bucket hould be vi ible.
2. U e the loader’ tilt cylinder only to rai e the bucket above the material pile.
3. Pivot the loader to reach over the pile and tilt the backhoe downward o the bottom of the bucket i approximately 12”
below the top of the pile.
4. Pivot the loader toward the trench, u ing the ide of the bucket to move the material into the trench. Repeat thi
proce , lowering the bucket 6” at a time.
5. Move your power unit forward and repeat the above tep to continue filling the trench.
IMPORTANT
Make ure the portion to the trench to be driven on i full before moving forward.
Moving on an un table urface

• WILL void all HLA warrantie .
• Alway lower the bucket to the ground, et the parking brake, top the engine, remove ignition key and wait for all
moving part to top before leaving the operator’ eat.

To witch between mounting location ,
remove main pivot pin & cylinder pin.
When mounting, make ure pin are fully
in erted & pin retainer bolt are properly
tightened.
Dipperstick can be mounted to center or right side of frame.
- Center mount i recommended for digging in an open area.

BACKHOE MAINTENANCE
Regular maintenance i the key to long equipment life and afe operation. It i very important that the e
maintenance function be performed a de cribed below.
BEFORE FIRST USE
• In pect the attachment for hipping damage. If damage doe exi t, do not operate until the damaged part have been
replaced or repaired.
BEFORE EACH USE
• Make ure that all nut and bolt are in place and properly tightened.
• Make ure that all other fa tener are in place and are performing their pecified function.
• Make ure that all hydraulic fitting are tightened and that there are no leak in any fitting or ho e .
• Make ure that all afety ign are in place, are clean and are legible.
SEE THE SAFETY SIGN SECTION
• Replace any damaged part and exce ively worn part .
• Grea e all (8) lubrication point . (refer to page 15 for diagram)
AFTER EVERY 8 HOURS OF OPERATION

BACKHOE SERVICE
• Shut off engine, et parking brake and relieve hydraulic pre ure before connecting or di connecting hydraulic line .
Refer to your power unit’ manual for in truction on how to relieve hydraulic pre ure in line .
• Before applying pre ure to the y tem, be ure that all connection are tight and be ure there are no damaged
ho e , line or fitting .
• Wear afety gla e and u e metal or wood when earching for leak . Do not u e your hand .
