3. General Informaon
3.1. Intended Use of the User Manual
This manual contains the main features of this Intesis gateway and the instrucons for its appropriate
installaon, conguraon, and operaon.
The contents of this manual should be brought to the aenon of any person who installs, congures, or
operates this gateway or any associated equipment.
Keep this manual for future reference during the installaon, conguraon, and operaon.
3.2. General Safety Informaon
IMPORTANT
Follow these instrucons carefully. Improper work may seriously harm your health and damage the
gateway and/or any other equipment connected to it.
Only technical personnel, following these instrucons and the country legislaon for installing electrical
equipment, can install and manipulate this gateway.
Install this gateway indoors, in a restricted access locaon, avoiding exposure to direct solar radiaon, water, high
relave humidity, or dust.
All wires (for communicaon and power supply, if needed) must only be connected to networks with indoor
wiring. All communicaon ports are considered for indoor use and must only be connected to SELV circuits.
Disconnect all systems from power before manipulang and connecng them to the gateway.
Use a circuit breaker before the power supply. Rang: 250 V, 6 A.
Respect the expected polarity of power and communicaon cables when connecng them to the gateway.

This IN703DAL0640000 gateway supports two applicaons.
Gateway's client interface ↔ Gateway's server interface

4.3. General Funconality
This Intesis IN703DAL0640000 gateway enables data exchange between installaons and devices based on the
DALI protocol and control systems based on BACnet or Modbus.
To do so, the gateway is connuously aware of both sides: the control system (supervisor, BMS, client device,
etc.) and the DALI installaons or devices to be integrated. The gateway obtains updated readings for the points
congured in it. With every read, the new values are updated in the gateway's memory and become available
for the control system side. When a change in any point congured as output in the gateway is detected (that is,
wrien from the control system side), the corresponding acon in the DALI device is performed.

NOTE
1 We recommend liming this number to 16 when integrang push buons. Realize that push
buons with several instances consume several signals.
The maximum number of DALI devices (ECGs and/or input devices) depends on the sum of the
specic devices' current consumpon. The gateway supplies 230 mA to the bus to power the DALI
devices, so if each input device (sensor) in the bus consumes 5 mA, then we can connect 63 ECGs
(the standard denes the maximum consumpon allowed for these devices is 2 mA) and 16 sensors.
63 ECGs * 2 mA + 16 sensors * 5 mA = 206 mA < 230 mA * 90%
As the standard recommends, don’t use the guaranteed current to calculate the maximum number
of DALI devices, but leave 10% of the current for future expansion or tolerances.

5. Hardware
5.1. Mounng
IMPORTANT
Before mounng, please ensure that the chosen installaon place preserves the gateway from direct
solar radiaon, water, high relave humidity, or dust.
IMPORTANT
Ensure the gateway has sucient clearances for all connecons when mounted. See Dimensions.
NOTE
Mount the gateway over a DIN rail, preferably inside a grounded metallic industrial cabinet.
DIN rail mounng
1. Fit the gateway’s top-side clips in the upper edge of the DIN rail.
2. Press the low side of the gateway gently to lock it in the DIN rail.
3. Make sure the gateway is rmly xed.
NOTE
For some DIN rails, to complete step 2, you may need a small screwdriver or similar to pull the
boom clip down.

CAUTION
Disconnect all systems from power before manipulang and connecng them to the gateway.
IMPORTANT
Keep communicaon cables away from power and ground wires.

IMPORTANT
This USB connector does not support HDD devices.
Power supply:
IMPORTANT
The gateway's power supply is disabled by default to prevent the risk of having two power supplies
at the same me in the DALI bus.
You can enable/disable the power supply with Intesis MAPS (see the gure below). Take into account
that this parameter is enabled by default.
If you are powering the bus with an external power supply, ensure to comply with the following:
• It is a DALI-2 standard power supply cered under the DiiA guidelines.
• Polarity in the DALI bus is the same for both the gateway and the external power supply.
• Be sure you are following the standard DALI guidelines for bus powering.
If the DALI bus is not powered, there will be no communicaon and an error will appear when
tesng the hardware.

The gateway's power supply is enabled/disabled from the DALI Channel root in the tree view
NOTE
If you change the status of the Power the DALI Bus parameter, send the project to the gateway
through the Receive/Send tab to apply the new status.
The power supply connector is a green pluggable terminal block (three poles) labeled as Power.
Power rang: 24 VDC (±10%), 6.5 W.
IMPORTANT
• Use SELV-rated NEC class 2 or limited power source (LPS) power supply.
• Respect the polarity.
• Connect the gateway's ground terminal to the installaon grounding.
• A wrong connecon may cause earth loops and damage the Intesis gateway and/or other system
equipment.
5.2.2. Connecon Procedure for DALI
Connect the DALI channel to the gateway's Port A using its A3 and A4 terminal connectors.
5.2.3. Connecon Procedure for Modbus
For Modbus TCP:
Connect the Modbus TCP Ethernet cable to the gateway's Ethernet Port. The correct cable to use depends on
where the gateway is connected:
•Connecng directly to a Modbus TCP device: use a crossover Ethernet UTP/FTP CAT5 or higher cable.
•Connecng to a hub or switch of the LAN of the building: use a straight Ethernet UTP/FTP CAT5 or higher
cable.

NOTE
Some devices detect the dierence automacally and adjust themselves.
NOTE
When commissioning the gateway for the rst me, DHCP will be enabled for 30 seconds. During
that me, if there is a DHCP server, an IP address will be automacally assigned to the gateway. If
there is no DHCP, you can type an IP address of your choice. Aer that me, the default IP address
192.168.100.246 will be automacally set.
IMPORTANT
If communicang through the LAN of the building, contact the network administrator and make sure
trac on the used port is allowed through all LAN paths.
For Modbus RTU:
NOTE
You can use either EIA-485 or EIA-232 Port B connectors for this kind of connecon. See Gateway
Connectors.
Using the EIA-485 connector:
Connect the Modbus RTU communicaon cable to the gateway's EIA-485 connector of Port B.
The connector for the EIA-485 bus is a green pluggable terminal block labeled B1, B2, and B3.
•B1: A+
•B2: B-
•SG: Signal ground
IMPORTANT
Observe polarity.
IMPORTANT
Remember the characteriscs of the standard EIA-485 bus:
• Maximum distance of 1200 meters (0.75 miles).
• Maximum of 32 devices connected to the bus.
• A 120 ohms (Ω) terminaon resistor is needed at each end of the bus. The gateway has an internal
bus biasing circuit already incorporang the terminaon resistor. It can be enabled using the DIP
switch block (SW A) dedicated to the EIA-485 port:
Posion 1
– ON: 120 Ω terminaon acve.
– OFF: 120 Ω terminaon inacve.
Posions 2 and 3
– ON: Polarizaon acve.
– OFF: Polarizaon inacve.
For further details, see DIP Switches (page 16).

IMPORTANT
When installing the gateway at the end of the bus with the terminaon resistor enabled, do not
install an addional terminaon resistor at that end.
Using the EIA-232 connector:
Connect the Modbus RTU communicaon cable to the gateway's EIA-232 connector of Port B.
The connector for the EIA-232 bus is a DB9 male (DTE) connector.
NOTE
Only lines RX, TX, and Ground (corresponding to pins 2, 3, and 5) are used.
IMPORTANT
Respect the maximum distance of 15 meters.
5.2.4. Connecon Procedure for BACnet
For BACnet/IP:
Connect the BACnet/IP Ethernet cable to the gateway's Ethernet Port. The correct cable to use depends on
where the gateway is connected:
•Connecng directly to a BACnet/IP device: use a crossover Ethernet UTP/FTP CAT5 or higher cable.
•Connecng to a hub or switch of the LAN of the building: use a straight Ethernet UTP/FTP CAT5 or higher
cable.
NOTE

5.2.5. Connecon to a PC for Conguraon
Use the supplied USB Mini-B type to USB Type-A cable to connect the gateway through its Console port to a PC
to congure it with Intesis MAPS.
NOTE
You can use the Ethernet Port to connect the gateway and the PC instead.

5.3. LED Indicators

5.4. DIP Switches
The gateway has two DIP switches:
• DIP switch A (SW A)
• DIP switch B (SW B)
Each DIP switch is dedicated to a 485 port, and its funcon is to acvate or deacvate the terminaon resistor
and the polarizaon of each port:

5.5. Buons
Buon A
Press the buon once to broadcast a RECALL_MAX_LEVEL for 30 seconds. Press the buon again to broadcast an
OFF.

NOTE
When having a pen drive connected to the gateway's USB connector, press buon A to save the
project or/and the logs to the pen drive.
This behavior can be congured through Intesis MAPS. To know more, see the Intesis MAPS User
manual for IN703DAL0640000.
Buon B
Press the buon once to send an I-Am message to the network.
NOTICE
This funcon for buon B only applies to the DALI to BACnet applicaon.
NOTE
When having a pen drive connected to the gateway's USB connector, press buon B to download a
project or/and a rmware version from the pen drive to the gateway.
The gateway will download the last saved project. The project/rmware must be located in the pen
drive root memory, not inside a folder. This funcon of buon B works for BACnet and Modbus.
This behavior can be congured through Intesis MAPS. To know more, see the Intesis MAPS User
manual for IN703DAL0640000.
Buon A + buon B
Follow this procedure to reset the gateway to the factory sengs:
1. Reboot the gateway.
NOTE
To reboot the gateway, disconnect it from the power supply and connect it again.
2. Keep both buons pressed simultaneously while reboong the gateway.
3. Aer 5-10 seconds, all LEDs will light up and out in a cycle from top to boom.
4. Release the buons.
5. The LEDs cycle can take up to 90 seconds unl the process nishes.
