Risk of interference to radio and television if used in office or home
environment!
Use exclusively included accessories.
Make sure shield of interface is connected with device plug and plug on
other side.
Use exclusively shielded cables.

uProtect product from too high or too low temperature (see Technical Data, p.

4 Product Description
The FlexRay PCI Express interface card FR-IB100/PCIe is an interface for oper-
ation, analysis, diagnostics and stimulation of FlexRay networks.

• FlexRay protocol support via communication controller Freescale MFR4310
• FlexRay 2 x 10 MBit/s
• FlexRay bus connection via Physical-Layer-Chip NXP TJA1082
• galvanically isolated
• highly integrated FPGA with PCIe controller, internal processor system, dual
port memory, time stamp, asynchronous receiver
• open FlexRay PC driver interface (VCI) for Windows XP, Windows Vista,

5 Installation
5.1 Installing the Software
For the operation of the interface a driver is needed.
Windows
uInstall VCI driver (see Installation manual VCI).
– version VCI 2 or
– version VCI 3 with VCI V2.20 Wrapper
5.2 Installing the Hardware
Risk of ESD damages caused by improper handling!
Use ESD protective measures to avoid equipment damage.
The FR-IB100/PCIe can be operated in all PCI express slots (x1, x4, x8,
x16).
uMake sure VCI driver V2 or V3 with V2.20 Wrapper is installed.
uTurn off computer.
uPull power cord.
uOpen computer case according to instructions of computer manufacturer.
uDetermine suitable slot.
uPlug PCI/PCIe connector in corresponding slot, without using force.
uMake sure the interface is securely fitted in computer.
uClose computer case.
wHardware installation is complete.

On the FlexRay connectors the differential signal pairs (BM and BP) of the Flex-
Ray bus channels A and B are available.
The FlexRay bus is galvanically isolated from the PC ground and the PCI Ex-
press bus. Channels A and B are connected to the same potential.

8 Firmware Updates
The FR-IB100/PCIe card is always supplied with the latest firmware on the on-
board flash. The VCI cooperates with this firmware.
uIf different firmware or update of onboard firmware is necessary, download
necessary files and tools from www.ixxat.com.
The operation of the flash loader is indicated by the FlexRay LED. Do not
switch off the PC while the flash loader is running. Switching off the PC
during operation of the flash loader may destroy the card.

Appendix A: Regulatory Compliance 16 (18)
This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a
Class B digital device, pursuant to Part 15 of the FCC rules. These limits
are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful
interference in a residential installation. This equipment generates, uses
and can radiate radio frequency energy and, if not installed and used in
accordance with the instructions, may cause harmful interference to
