INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
BEFORE INSTALLATION
The LP916A-C Pneumatic Remote Bulb Thermostats
(“Thermostats”) provide proportional control of heating or
cooling in induction units, fan coil units, and unit ventilators. A
wide throttling range model is available for duct discharge
control of heating or cooling coils and mixed air dampers.
Observe the following warning when installing this device.
WARNING
Do not rotate the Thermostat control shaft more than
two revolutions clockwise from the original position as
received. Rotating the shaft more than two revolutions
from the original position can cause permanent
damage to the Thermostat.
This warning is also on a removeable tag (Fig. 1)
attached to the Thermostat and should remain
attached until the system is ready to start up.

Use care to prevent the capillary and sensing bulb
from being dented or damaged in any way during
installation. Also avoid any sharp bends or kinks in the
capillary during installation.

INSTALLATION
Integral Mounting Bracket Model
The LP916 integral mounting bracket model includes two
Tinnerman nuts, two sensing bulb hangers, and two No. 10 x
5/8 in. sheet metal screws. See Figure 2 for integral mounting
bracket model dimensions.

The integral mounting bracket model allows the Thermostat to
be mounted in a terminal unit or on a duct.
Terminal Unit Mounting
Mounting Considerations
AInstall the return air Thermostat in one of the end
compartments or pockets of the unit. Any of the
positions shown in Figure 3 (Points A, B, C, or D)
is acceptable.

BMount Thermostat in location where mounting screws
are readily accessible, setpoint knob easily reached,
and scale visible; preferably from top of unit through
access hatch or from front of unit when front panel
is removed.
CLocate air connections in accessible area. If necessary,
add 1/4-in. plastic elbow and/or tubing extensions to
barb connectors before installation.
DMount bulb at either Point E (Fig. 3). Avoid kinks, dents,
or sharp bends in the 36-in. (914 mm) capillary and
mount so that capillary does not rub on sharp corners.
ELocate plastic tubes away from hot supply lines.
Mounting Procedures
AHold Thermostat in place and mark screw hole centers
(Fig. 4). Punch or drill pilot holes for sheet metal screws.
Alternately, Tinnerman nuts can be used by making
clearance holes for the screws.

BMount Thermostat (Fig. 5 or 6).

CCarefully uncoil and extend capillary tubing. Make a
5/8-in. (16 mm) hole in unit wall between end
compartment and filter and coil compartment, or use
existing knockout. Insert sensing bulb, with capillary,
through hole. Locate bulb in appropriate position
between return air filter and coil. Bush hole in unit wall
to protect capillary tubing.
NOTE: The sensing bulb must not be situated where
is will be affected by any outdoor airflow
across it (e. g., a unit which uses a fixed-
percentage outdoor air damper).
DMount two bulb hangers (Fig. 6). Clip to drain pan
or edge of frame member.Tap top end to ensure
firm mounting.

ESnap sensing bulb into position.
FBefore connecting air, leave main line disconnected for
about one minute to clear and dry tubing. Air
connections are 1/4-in. push-on sharp-barb type and
are labeled M and B for Main and Branch.
NOTE: If air connections are towards back, connect
appropriate lengths of tubing to barb
connectors before mounting.
Duct Mounting
Duct mounting requires a 107324A Duct Bulb Holder (Fig. 7).
The sensing bulb should be located in the duct where air of
representative temperature can freely circulate around it.
Avoid mounting the bulb close to hot pipes, cooling coils, and
other places where air temperature is not representative.

ACut a 3/4-in. (19 mm) diameter hole in duct wall to admit
sensing bulb and bulb holder.
BMount the Thermostat near the hole in the duct.
NOTE: Mount either on top of duct or on a bracket or
angle iron; obtain locally.
CUsing bulb holder as a template, mark and drill holes for
bulb holder and mounting screws.
DBreak off bulb holder to desired length as shown in
Figure 8.
NOTE: Bulb holder should be long enough to hold
sensing bulb in freely circulating air away from
duct wall. Neatly coil any excess capillary
tubing at Thermostat case or at bulb holder.

EPlace capillary tubing in bulb holder channel and pinch
top edges of holder together at each segment as shown
in Figure 9.

FInsert bulb and bulb holder (Fig. 10) into duct through
hole prepared in Step 1.

Mounting Kit Model
The LP916 mounting kit model is shown in Figure 12.This
model can be either panel mounted or mounted in a terminal
unit using a bracket.

Panel Mounting
Mounting LP916 Mounting Kit Model directly on a panel
requires a 306016C Bag Assembly which includes a scale
plate, knob, and mounting screws.
ADrill holes in panel on centers as shown in Figure 13.

CAUTION
Be careful not to change position of control shaft
when removing shipping stop and attaching setpoint
knob and scale plate to Thermostat.
BMount Thermostat from rear of panel and secure on
front with scale plate and screws (Fig. 14).

CPlace setpoint knob on control shaft (Fig. 14) with
pointer aligned over mid-mark on scale plate.
Secure knob firmly with set screw furnished to
maintain calibration.
DMount sensing bulb in unit as required.
Bracket Mounting
The LP916 Mounting Kit Model is installed in terminal units
similar to Figure 5 or 6 using a 306016A or B Bag Assembly.
These assemblies include a mounting bracket, screws, nuts,
clips, bulb hangers, scale plate, and knob.The two bag
assemblies are similar except for the length of the mounting
bracket and the centers of the bracket mounting holes (Fig.15
and 16).The two sets of holes in the mounting bracket allow
the Thermostat to be mounted either vertically or horizontally.

CAUTION
Be careful not to change position of control shaft

AAssemble Thermostat, mounting bracket, and scale
plate as shown in Figure 17.
BPlace setpoint knob on control shaft (Fig. 17) with
pointer aligned over mid-mark on scale plate.
Secure knob firmly with setscrew furnished to maintain
calibration.
CHold Thermostat in place in the terminal unit and mark
screw hole centers (Fig. 17).Punch or drill pilot holes in
the mounting surface for sheet metal screws.
Alternately, Tinnerman nuts can be used by making
clearance holes for the screws.
DMount Thermostat in unit.
EMount sensing bulb in unit using hangers (see Fig. 6).

CHECKOUT AND TESTING
WARNING
Do not rotate the Thermostat control shaft more than
two revolutions clockwise from the original position as
received. Rotating the shaft more than two revolutions
from the original position can cause permanent
damage to the Thermostat.
Using a CCT729A Gage Adaptor, insert a 0 to 30 psi
(0 to 207 kPa) gage into gage plug on front of
Thermostat.Turn setpoint knob above and below bulb
ambient temperature. If the branchline pressure can
be varied from 0 psi (0 kPa) to full main pressure
within the rated throttling range, the Thermostat is
operating properly. If not, recalibrate (see
CALIBRATION section).
NOTE: Allow enough time for the branch pressure to
build up (up to three minutes) when checking
out this device.
The following table lists throttling range and scale increment
values for various Thermostat models:
CALIBRATION
The Thermostat is factory calibrated at midscale (pointer
vertical) and normally requires no adjustment. (Warmer-
Cooler models are calibrated at 75F.) If recalibration is
required, allow enough time (up to three minutes) for the
branch pressure to stabilize.
LP916A and C Calibration
AApply 18 psi (124 kPa) main line pressure.
BMeasure temperature at bulb location.
CRemove setpoint knob.
DRotate control shaft to achieve 8 psi (55 kPa)
branchline pressure. Do not rotate shaft more than two
revolutions clockwise from original position as received
and allow enough time (up to three minutes) for branch
pressure to build up.
WARNING
Rotating shaft more than two revolutions clockwise
from original position can cause permanent damage
to the Thermostat.
EReplace setpoint knob and position pointer to
correspond to temperature measured at remote bulb.
The center division on the scale is the middle of the
setpoint range.
LP916B Calibration
AFor direct action, follow Steps 1 through 5 of LP916A
and C calibration.
BFor reverse action (except LP916B1058), apply 13 psi
(90 kPa) main line pressure. For LP916B1058, use 9
psi (62 kPa) main line pressure.
CFor applications requiring different control points for
heating and cooling Zero Energy Band (ZEB), reset
setpoint knob towards COOLING, one division for each
0.9 degree F (0.5 degree K) of ZEB desired.
DAdjust switchover lever stop (Fig. 18) for 8 psi (55 kPa)
branchline pressure (6 psi [41 kPa] for LP916B1058).

LP916B Switchover Point Adjustment
ABack off switchover spring adjusting nut (Fig.18) until
flush with stud.
BCalibrate per Steps 1 through 5 of LP916A and C
calibration. Increase branchline pressure by rotating
control shaft clockwise. Allow enough time (up to three
minutes) for branch pressure to build up.
CLower main line pressure to 16.5 psi (113 kPa).Tighten
switchover spring adjusting nut until branchline
pressure begins to increase. Allow enough time (up to
three minutes) for branch pressure to build up and
observe WARNING in LP916A and C calibration.
DExcept LP916B1058, lower main line pressure to 13 psi
(90 kPa). Adjust switchover lever stop to 8 psi (55 kPa)
branchline pressure.Increase branchline pressure by
raising lever stop. For LP916B1058, lower mainline
pressure to 9 psi (62 kPa) and adjust switchover lever
