Overview
This installation instruction describes how to replace the MegaRAID iTBBU02 battery for the image
memory drive LSI RAID controller.

Procedure
1. Open the front door of the server rack, locate the DL380 G5 core server at the top of the rack,
and shut down the core server.
2. Pull down the mounting screw covers on the right and left sides of the rack.

3. If the screws holding the server to the rack are present, remove the screws.
4. Pull the server out of the rack and into the service position by pulling the mounting screw
covers on both sides.
5. Disconnect the two power cables from the back of the server.
WARNING: Do not reconnect the power cables until after you
have replaced the top cover.
6. Press the server power button to discharge the power supply capacitors.

7. To remove the top cover:
a. Unscrew the top cover latch screw.
b. Lift the top cover latch.
c. Slide the top cover toward the rear of the server.
d. Lift the cover at the front.

CAUTION: To prevent electric shock and/or damage to core
server components, use an anti-static wrist strap.
8. Record the number of each network cable and the corresponding PCI riser connection.
9. Disconnect the eight network cables from the back of the PCI riser cage.

10. Disconnect the RAID cable from the PCI riser cage.

11. To release the screw caps, press the four blue screw covers that hold the PCI riser cage in
place. The screw caps pop up.

12. Remove the screws.
13. Remove the PCI riser cage from the server chassis.

14. Locate the LSI RAID board at the bottom of the cage. The board has a white battery pack
mounted on the memory module.

15. Remove the securing screw.
16. Remove the LSI RAID board and place it on a flat and clean static-free surface.
17. Release the latches holding the memory module in the DIMM socket.
18. Remove the memory module from the LSI RAID board.
19. Insert the new memory module into the DIMM socket on the LSI RAID board. Verify that it
clicks into place.
20. Reinsert the LSI RAID board into the PCI riser cage. Secure the LSI RAID board with the
original securing screw.
21. Place the PCI riser cage back into its position in the server chassis.

22. Verify that the cage rails are aligned with the chassis guides.

23. Secure the PCI riser cage with the securing screws.
24. Press the four blue screw covers to lock them.
25. Reconnect the RAID cable to the PCI riser cage.
26. Reconnect the network cables.
27. Replace the top cover.
28. Reconnect the power cables.
29. Push the server back into its normal position in the rack.
30. Store the server mounting screws in a secure location at the customer site. The server
mounting screws can be reused if the customer needs to move the system.
31. Ask the customer to dispose of the old battery according to local environmental regulations.

Test procedure
1. Turn on the core server.
2. After completion of the power-up sequence, log in using the Unicorn account.
3. Select Start and Run.
4. Type cmd and click OK. The Command Prompt window appears.
5. At the DOS prompt, type megacli –AdpBbuCmd –GetBbuStatus –a0 and press Enter.
6. Examine the Command Prompt window:
•If the above information appears, the battery is connected properly.
•If “Invalid input" appears, check the spelling of the command in step 5.
•If a blank line appears, the battery is not connected properly. Perform the procedure
again.
