Volume A logical object that is the basic structure created on the Storage Array to store data.
One or more volumes are configured across a volume group, and each volume is seen
by the operating system as one drive.
Volume Group A set of drives that are logically grouped together by the controllers in a Storage Array.
Each volume group is assigned an appropriate RAID level to meet application needs
for data availability and I/O performance. The RAID level is a volume group
parameter, not a volume parameter.
Free Capacity A contiguous region of unassigned capacity on a designated volume group. The space
can be used to create one or more volumes.
Note: In the Array Management Window Logical View, free capacity is shown as Free
Capacity Nodes. Multiple Free Capacity nodes can exist on a volume group.
Unconfigured Capacity Capacity present in the Storage Array from drives that have not been assigned to a
volume group. The space can be used to create new volume groups.
Note: In the Array Management Window Logical View, unconfigured capacity is shown
as an Unconfigured Capacity Node.

Component Description
Management Station A computer used to manage Storage Arrays on the network. The
management stationcan beeither a remote computer, or the host to which
the Storage Array is connected.
Network Management Station
(Optional) A Network Management Station (NMS) is a console with installed SNMP- compliant network management software that receives and processes
information about managed network devices using SNMP (Simple
Network Messaging Protocol).
The storage management software sends critical alerts (using SNMP trap
messages) if you configure destinations using the
(GLW !! $OHUW !! 'HVWLQDWLRQV option in the Enterprise Management
Window.
Host The computer to which the Storage Array is connected over a Fibre
Channel I/O connection.
Storage Array A Disk Array FC60, managed by the storage management software, that
consists of both physical components (such as drives, controllers, fans,
and power supplies) and logical components (such as volume groups and
volumes).

Component Description
SM60client The SM60client provides the user interface for managing the Storage Arrays. You can install
the client software in one of two locations: on a remote management station, or on the host if
you want to use it as a management station. See the +36WRUDJH0DQDJHU178VHUªV
*XLGH for details.
For more information, see "About the SM60 Client Software" in this section.
SM60agent The SM60agent, or host-agent management software, provides the communication link
between the SM60 client software and the Storage Array.The host-agent management
software must be installed on each host connected to the Storage Arrays you want to
manage.
A management station communicates with a Storage Array through a host running the host-
agent software. The host-agent receives requests from the management station and sends
them to the controllers in the Storage Array through the Fibre Channel I/O connection. The
communication between the management station and the controllers is done through a
special volume configured by controllers called an access volume. This volume uses one of
the logical unit numbers (LUNs) available on the host.
The SM60agent package also contains the SM60devices utility that correlates the volumes
you create using the storage management software with their operating system device
names.
Hosts with the host-agent software installed will be automatically discovered by the storage
management software and appear in the Device Tree in the Enterprise Management
Window along with their attached Storage Arrays if you choose the Automatic Discovery
option.
Redundant Dual
Active Controller
(RDAC) multi-path
driver software
RDAC is an I/O path fail-over driver installed on the host computers that access the Storage
Array. Typically, a pair of active controllers is installed in the Storage Array. Each volume in
the Storage Array is “owned”by one controller that controls the I/O between the volume and
the application host along the I/O path. When a component in the I/O path fails, such as a
cable or the controller itself, the RDAC multi-path driver transfers ownership of the volumes
assigned to that controller to the other controller in the pair.
The RDAC is required to be installed on the host to which the storage array is connected.
The RDAC is installed as part of the HP Storage Manager 60 software.

Enterprise Management Window Menus
The Enterprise Management Window menus on the menu bar are described in Table 5.

Menu Description
Edit The Edit menu contains options to add or remove devices from the management
domain, configure alert destinations, or add a comment to the Device Table about a
Storage Array.
View The View menu contains options to sort the entries in the Device Table by Name,
Status, Management Type, or Comment. Another option shows Partially Managed
Devices – Storage Arrays that contain two controllers, but only one controller of the
pair is communicated with to perform storage management operations.
For more information on partially managed Storage Arrays, see the Enterprise
Management Window Help.
Tools The Tools menu contains options for automatically detecting devices on the same sub-
network or for rescanning to find Storage Arrays newly attached to a host. Other
options on this menu including opening an Array Management Window to manage a
selected Storage Array and opening the Script Editor to perform batch management
tasks.
Help The Help menu contains options to display the online Help system and to view
software version and copyright information for the Enterprise Management software.

Toolbar button Description
Automatically detect new devices Selecting this button activates the Automatic Discovery option
that detects hosts and Storage Arrays on the local sub-network
and adds them to the management domain.
Rescan selected host for new devices
Selecting this button activates the Rescan option that detects
Storage Arrays newly attached to the selected host. After
physically adding new Storage Arrays, restart the Host-Agent
software so that it can recognize the new devices before
selecting this button.
NOTE This option is available only when you select a host in
the Device Tree.
Add host/device Selecting this button opens the Add Device dialog for manually
adding hosts or controllers that comprise a Storage Array to the
management domain.
Remove host/device Selecting this button removes the selected Storage Array or the
selected host and its attached Storage Arrays from the
management domain.
Launch an Array Management
Window Selecting this button opens an Array Management Window for
the selected Storage Array.
NOTE This option is available only when you select a
Storage Array in the Device Tree or Device Table.

Menu Description
Storage Array The Storage Array menu contains options to perform Storage Array management
operations such as monitoring performance, changing cache settings, starting Recovery
Guru, or viewing detailed profile information about the Storage Array.
Configure The Configure menu contains options to configure the logical components of a Storage
Array (volumes, volume groups, and storage partitions) from the physical capacity.
There is also an option to change the order of the trays in the Physical View to match
the actual layout of the physical components.
Volume Group The Volume Group menu contains options to perform volume group storage
management operations such as changing RAID level, changing controller ownership,
or capacity expansion.
Volume The Volume menu contains options to perform volume storage management operations
such as changing segment size, initializing a volume, or viewing and setting volume
properties.
Controller The Controller menu contains options to perform controller storage management
operations such as placing a controller online or offline, or viewing or setting controller
properties.
Drive The Drive menu contains options to perform drive storage management operations
such as assigning or unassigning a hot spare, or viewing drive properties.
Help The Help menu contains options to display the online Help system, view a reference of
all Recovery Guru procedures, and to view software version and copyright information
for the Array Management software.

Toolbar button Description
Create new volumes (and volume
groups, if applicable)
Selecting this button allows you to create volume groups and
volumes.
NOTE You must select either a Free Capacity Node or an
Unconfigured Capacity Node in the Logical View before this
option is available. If you select a Free Capacity Node, the
option is called Create New Volumes. If you select an
Unconfigured Capacity Node, the option is called Create New
Volume Groups/Volumes.
Configure storage partitioning Selecting this button allows you to define the topological
elements attached to your Storage Array and define volume-to-
LUN mappings to create storage partitions. For more
information on storage partitions, go to page 25.
View diagnostic event log Selecting this button opens the Event Log Viewer.
NOTE This log is for customer support use.
Monitor performance Selecting this button opens the Performance Monitor.
Recover from failures Selecting this button opens the Recovery Guru.
NOTE If the Storage Array is in a Needs Attention state ,
the Recovery Guru toolbar button flashes.
