switches and directors provide the scalability, availability,
manageability, performance, and packaging density that
companies need to build flexible storage area networks
(SANs) and consolidate data access. With M-Series
switches and directors, you keep pace with exponential

HP StorageWorks Edge Switch 2/12
The HP StorageWorks Edge Switch 2/12 delivers
reliability, flexibility, and entry-level Fibre Channel (FC)
capabilities. It’s ideal for basic FC connectivity in
beginning SAN installations, or at the edge of
established environments.
Based on the award-winning HP StorageWorks Edge
Switch 2/24 design, the Edge Switch 2/12 supports
4, 8, or 12-ports through the FlexPort technology
option. This technology enables customers to implement
connectivity on demand. They can start with a partially
populated switch (4-ports) and purchase additional
connectivity when needed in 4-port increments up to
a total of 12-ports.

HP StorageWorks Edge Switch 2/24
and Edge Switch 2/32
The HP StorageWorks Edge Switch 2/24 and Edge
Switch 2/32 offer unprecedented flexibility in supporting
enterprise-wide SAN deployments and core-to-edge
architectures. The Edge Switch 2/24 base model includes
eight active switch ports, eight transceivers, and is
upgradeable in 8-port upgrades to 24 active ports. The
Edge Switch 2/32 comes with 16 ports upgradeable to
32 ports, in 8-port increments. The Edge Switch 2/24
and Edge Switch 2/32 provide 2 Gb/s throughput,
FlexPort technology and seamless interoperability with the
Director 2/140 and each other.
A 1U server is required for HP StorageWorks HA-Fabric
Manager (HAFM) software v8.02 and later*. For ease
of ordering, HAFM has been bundled with the 1U server
under a single part number. In addition, there is support
for the latest versions of IBM AIX, Tru64 UNIX,
OpenVMS, Microsoft®Windows®2003, and Novell
NetWare operating systems supported by HP, comple-
menting recently announced versions of HP-UX, Linux®,
Solaris, and Microsoft Windows NT®/Windows 2000.

HP StorageWorks Director 2/140
The HP StorageWorks Director 2/140 supports 2 Gb/s
and 1 Gb/s mixed environments. The switch provides the
availability, manageability, scalability, and performance
that you need to build powerful, flexible SANs that
support today’s mission critical environments. The Director
2/140 is engineered to support emerging technologies
with its protocol-independent architecture; it is the open
storage-networking platform you need to meet your future
business needs.
The Director 2/140 features the FlexPort technology
option. This technology enables customers to implement
connectivity on demand. You can start with a partially
populated switch (32-ports) and purchase additional
connectivity when needed in 4-port increments up to
a total of 140-ports.
The Director 2/140 ensures data is continuously online
with the highest level of availability on the market:
99.999 percent, certified to Mil-Spec 217-F. It features
redundant power supplies and cooling fans, along with
redundant active components that support automatic
failover. Other high-availability capabilities include
hot-swapping for all field-replaceable units, non-disruptive
firmware activation, and automatic fault detection and
isolation. In addition, call-home and e-mail notifications
automatically alert maintenance personnel to accelerate
problem resolution. The Director 2/140 also maintains
continuous data access and high performance in the
event of a single component failure by allowing non-
disruptive maintenance.
A 1U server is required for HP StorageWorks HAFM

number. In addition, there is support for the latest versions

The newest member of the M-Series family of Fibre
Channel switches, the McDATA 4Gb SAN Switch for
HP p-Class BladeSystem, delivers new technology for
customers connecting HP BladeSystems to Fibre Channel
SANs. With the introduction of the new McDATA 4Gb
SAN Switch, IT managers now have the capability to
consolidate multiple HP servers, Fibre Channel Switches
and Ethernet switches into a single platform for
connectivity to the networked infrastructure. This
integration of technology results in space and cost
savings due to a reduction of physical components,
raising the reliability of the entire system. Time to
deployments is drastically reduced as server interconnects
are made once the McDATA 4Gb SAN Switch is
plugged into the HP BladeSystem chassis.
Advances in our Fibre Channel switching technology
has allowed us to physically reduce the size of the system
down to a 4.5-inch by 3.5-inch cube that plugs into the
back of the HP p-Class BladeSystem, resulting in a
solution with practically zero footprint. Cabling between
components that once had to be done manually, is now
integrated into the HP BladeSystem, reducing administrative
man hours and providing nearly instant deployment.
