Examiningtheinstallationsite
TheHPNJ5000-5G-PoE+mustbe used indoors.Toensurecorrectoperationandlongservicelifeofyour
switch, installitinanenvironmentthat meets therequirements described in Table1.

•Connectthepowercordandconnecttheswitchtothenetwork.ExaminetheLED statustomakesure
theswitchcanoperate correctly.For moreinformationaboutswitchLEDs,see "AppendixBLEDs."
•Verifythat cablinghas beencompleted.

InstallingtheSwitch
TheNJ5000-5G-PoE+Walljackisdesignedtobe mounted onastandardNEMA-WD6(US)or BS4662
(International)electrical outletbox.
You canalsoinstalltheHPNJ5000-5G-PoE+usingtheoptionalHPunifiedwired-WLANwalljack
table/flushwall mountkit(JL022A).Thiskit,whichispurchased separately,lets you install theswitchon
ahorizontal surfaceor wall.
Installingtheswitchinaninwall
1. Placethemountingbracket,withtheUParrowpointingup,ontheelectrical outlet box,andthen
use two of thesupplied mountingscrews to securethebracket to thebox.
Thetwo M3.5 ×25 mountingscrews arefor aUSelectrical box. Thetwo M3.5 ×12 mounting
screws arefor anEUelectrical outlet box.

2. Connectthenetworkcable from theelectrical outlet boxtotheRJ-45 uplinkportonthebackofthe
HPNJ5000-5G-PoE+.

Installingtheswitchonawall
BeforeinstallingtheHPNJ5000-5G-PoE+onawall,makesurethesurfaceof thewall cansupporta
minimumweightof 0.9kg(2lbs)andextracables.
1. Hold theoptional unified wired WLANwalljacktable/flushwall mountpanel inavertical
orientation against thewall whereitwill be installed. Marktwo holes for thescrews or
user-supplied wall anchors.
2. Use thetwosupplied screws or user-supplied wall anchorstolooselyattachthemountpanel tothe
wall.Ifusingwall anchors,drill twoholes,typically4.7mm (0.19 in) indiameter,andtheninsert
theanchors.

3. Runtherequired networkcable throughthetop,bottom, or side of thewall mountpanel allowing
sufficientlengthforthecableto reachthenot-yet installed HPNJ5000-5G-PoE+.
4. Tightenthescrews or tap thewall anchorsflushwiththewall tosecurethemountpanel tothewall.
5. Placethemountingbracket,withtheUParrowpointingup, onthewall mountpanel. Use four
mountingscrews to securethebracket to thepanel.

Installingtheswitchonahorizontal surface
CAUTION:
Be suretoinstalltheunits inanareathat is wellventilatedandmaintains anambient
temperatureof less
than45 C(113 F). Donot install inenclosed spaces or closetoordirectlyaboveanyheat sources or
heat-emittingdevices. Iftheinstallationareahasanyobstructionstoair
flow,youmust take stepstoensure
adequateairflowis maintained. The ventilationslots must not
beblockedinanyway.Ensurethat thereis
at least 15.25 cm (6inches)of clearancefrom allvents.

sufficientlengthforthecables to reachthenot-yet installed HPNJ5000-5G-PoE+.
4. Tightenthescrews to securethemountpanel tothetable.
5. Placethemountingbracket,onthemountpanel,andthenuse fourmountingscrews tosecurethe
bracket to thepanel.
6. Connectthenetworkcable from thepanel to theRJ-45 Uplinkportonthebackof theHP
NJ5000-5G-PoE+.
7. PushtheHPNJ5000-5G-PoE+ontothemountingbracket,thenslideitdownuntilitisfullyengaged.
Do notrelease theHPNJ5000-5G-PoE+untilyou confirmthat itissecurelyinplace.
8. Use thesupplied small Phillips head bracket screw or Torx-10 securityscrew tosecuretheside of
theHPNJ5000-5G-PoE+to thebracket.
9. Connectcables:
•Connectequipmentthat requires PoEto Port3 and4.
•ConnectotherequipmenttoPorts 1, 2, 3,and4.

Thefirsttimeyou accesstheswitchyou mustuseaconsolecable (RJ-45connector for console cable,user
supplied)toconnectaconfigurationterminal,forexample, aPC,totheconsole portontheswitch,as
shownin Figure10.

Aconsole cable isan8-coreshielded cable,withacrimped RJ-45connectorat oneendfor connecting
totheconsole portoftheswitch,andaDB-9female connector at theotherendforconnectingtothe
serial portontheconfigurationterminal.

To connectaterminal (for example, aPC)to theswitch:
1. ConnecttheDB-9female connector of theconsole cableto theserial portofthePC.
2. ConnecttheRJ-45 connectorto theconsole portoftheswitch.
NOTE:
•Identifythemarkonthe console port and makesureyouareconnectingtothecorrectport.
•The serialports onPCs donot support hot swapping.Toconnecta PC toanoperating switch, first
connect thePC end. Todisconnecta PCfrom anoperating switch, firstdisconnectthe switchend.
•Purchasethe console cableatHP Parts Store(http://partsurfer.hp.com/) using the partnumber
5184-6719.Note: the console cable (5184-6719)is supplied onmanyHPproducts.
Settingterminalparameters
Startaterminal applicationsuchas HyperTerminal onthecomputer.Configuretheutilitywiththe
followingparameters:
Bits persecond—38400
Data bits—8
Parity—None
Stop bits—1
Flow control—None
Emulation—VT100
Loggingin totheWebinterfacefor thefirst time
IMPORTANT:
For securitypurposes, HP recommendsthatyouchangethelogininformationand assignaccess
permissions immediatelyafter thefirst successfullogin.
Bydefault, HTTPandHTTPSareenabled.
To login to theWeb interface:
1. Use anEthernet cable to connecttheconfigurationterminal to anEthernet portonthedevice.

2. IdentifytheIPaddress andmask ofthedevice.
¡Ifthedeviceisnotconnected to thenetwork,ornoDHCPserverexists onthenetwork, the
deviceusesthedefault IPaddressandmask. Thedefaultmask is255.255.0.0. Thedefault IP
addressis169.254.xxx.xxx,where xxx.xxxdependsonthelasttwobytesoftheMACaddress.
FindtheMACaddresslabel onthedeviceandusethefollowingrulestodeterminethelasttwo
bytesfor theIPaddress:

4. Openthebrowser, andthenenterlogin information:
a. Intheaddress bar, entertheIPaddress ofthedevice.

−HTTPSaccess—Enter the addressin thehttps://ip-address:portformat.
The ip-address argumentrepresents theIPaddress of thedevice.The port argumentrepresents
theHTTPorHTTPSserviceport. Thedefault portnumberis80 for HTTPand443 for HTTPS.
You do notneed to entertheportnumberifyou havenotchanged theserviceportsetting.
b. Onthelogin page, enterthedefault username(admin)andtheverification code.
You do notneed to enterapasswordat thefirst login.
c. ClickLogin.

Settingtheworkingmode
Theswitchcanoperate inmanaged mode(thedefault)orunmanaged mode.
NOTE:
Tochange the
mode,connecttotheconsole portof theswitchandexecutethefollowing
commands at theCLI:

•Whentheswitchoperatesinunmanaged mode, you do notneed to configuretheswitch.
