will not do what you want with reasonable ease and speed,
assume you have the wrong equipment for the job. Contact
your local HSS Hire for advice.
Keep the equipment clean - you will find this less of a
chore if you clean it regularly, rather than wait until the end
of the hire period.
When not in use, store the equipment somewhere
clean, dry and safe from thieves.

GETTING STARTED

BASIC TECHNIQUES
Never use the Lawn Scarifier until you have fully read
and understood this User Guide and the machine has
been properly set up using the information it contains.
Before starting work, clear the work area of any objects
that could damage the machine.
Position the scarifier outdoors on sufficiently firm, flat soil.
Visually inspect the machine before use - ensure all
blades, nuts and bolts are tight and not worn or damaged
and replace blades if necessary.
Check fuel level. Only use unleaded petrol
from a clean container. Never re-fuel when the
engine is hot or running.
Turn engine switch to ON position.
Turn Fuel to ON position by pushing
the bottom knob towards right.
If this is first use of the day then
switch the choke to the ON position
by moving the upper knob towards
left.
Hold the handlebar and place foot
against rear wheel.
Pull the recoil start handle gently until it
engages then give it a good strong pull to
start the engine.
When the engine has started, release the
choke lever after a few seconds.
Set the operating height adjuster by
screwing the top adjuster knob up or down so
that the blades comb the grass without
touching the soil, then tighten the locking
knob.
The blades must not be allowed to touch the ground.
Mount the grassbag onto the Scarifier by
raising the ejection guard and sliding the
grassbag frame lugs into the locating slots
each side of the axle frame.
Always stop the engine and wait for the rotating blades
to stop before removing and replacing the grassbag.
Empty the grassbag frequently.
Always use Lawn Scarifier at the maximum engine speed.
The Lawn Scarifier is designed to allow light, air and water
to the roots of grass to keep it healthy. It does this by
removing thatch which is made up of organic debris such
as cut grass, leaves and dead moss that has not
decomposed.
The machine must not be used as a slitter or aerator as
the blades will damage the lawn, and the machine will
be damaged.
If the Scarifier should strike a stone or similar object, stop
the engine immediately and wait for the blades to stop
rotating. Inspect the Scarifier for damage and if in any
doubt contact your local HSS Hire
FUEL SAFETY
NEVER refuel while the engine is hot or running.
NEVER smoke or allow naked lights into
the area while refuelling.
NEVER inhale fuel vapour.
ALWAYS mop up spillage’s as quickly as possible,
and change your clothes if you get fuel on yourself.
ALWAYS store fuel in a purpose-made sealed
container, in a cool, safe place well away
from the work area.
FUEL SAFETY
NEVER start the machine if you have spilt
fuel on it, or if the machine is leaking fuel.
EXHAUST DANGER
NEVER operate petrol engines indoors
or in a confined space.
The exhaust contains gases that can kill.
ALWAYS ensure there is adequate ventilation
when handling fuel.
