Introduction
Dear Customer,
We thank you for purchasing this LED Tester! With this unit, you have acquired a product constructed to the latest technological
standards. This product fulfils the requirements of the applicable national and European (Electromagnetic Com-patibility
89/336/EEC) directives. Conformance to these has been proven; the relevant statements and documents are lodged with the
manufacturer. To maintain this condition and to guarantee safe operation, the user must observe these operating instructions!
Intended use
The LED Tester is intended for checking the function, determining the polarity and brightness and for selecting "normal" light-
emitting diodes or low-current LEDs (1, 3, 5, 8 or 10 mm Ø and dual LEDs). For 13 LEDs max. With battery check indicator.
Ideal for use in goods inwards and quality control areas, in the laboratory, in production and in hobby areas. Out of doors use is
limited, because the case is not watertight! Contact with water is therefore absolutely to be avoided! Adry, lint-free cloth is
recommended for cleaning the case! The use of cleaning agents is to be avoided! Any use other than as described above can
lead to damage to the product and can also produce hazards such as, for example, short-circuit, fire, electric shock, etc. The
product as a whole may not be modified or converted nor the case opened! The safety information must be observed!
Safety information
Should damage result from non-observance of these instructions, any guarantee claim will be void! We accept no
responsibility for consequential damage!
Follow all advice contained in these operating instructions! Should you experience difficulties putting the unit into service, please
call our hotline! The LED Tester is not a toy! For this reason, keep it away from children! Take care that nothing falls onto the
case and that no liquids can enter through the openings into the case interior! During operation, the permitted ambient
temperature (room temperature) may not exceed 40°C nor fall below 0°C. The unit is intended only for use in dry and clean
areas. Should condensation water form, wait for an acclimatisation period of up to 2 hours. Keep the unit away from flower
vases, baths, washstands, liquids, etc. Protect the unit from the effects of moisture, splashed water and heat! In commercial
facilities, the accident-prevention regulations of the industrial employers' liability association for electrical systems and
equipment must be observed! In schools and educational establishments, the handling of the LED Tester is to be supervised by
teaching staff! When the LED Tester is not used over a long period, the battery must be removed from the battery compart-
ment, because it can leak!
Changing the batteries
Batteries should not be given to children. Batteries should be regarded as waste requiring special handling and so do not belong
with general refuse! Empty batteries can be disposed of in specialist shops in the collection containers provided for this purpose!
Observe correct polarity when fitting batteries! Do not leave batteries lying about openly because of the danger that they will be
swallowed by children or pets! Seek immediate medical help should swallowing occur! Leaking or damaged batteries can cause
irritation when touched with the skin; for this reason, in this case use suitable gloves without fail! Take care that batteries are not
shortcircuited, recharged or thrown into fire. In these cases there is danger of explosion!
The LED Tester is powered by a 9 V PP3 battery (not supplied).
1. The battery compartment is on the underside of the case. Carefully lever the battery compartment cover up at the tab on
the right using a small screwdriver!
2. Remove the used battery and replace this with a new one of the same type!
3. Afterwards close the battery compartment once again!
Operation
This small tester will assist you in carrying out the rapid testing of LEDs. When for example you must only select two light-
emitting diodes of identical brightness, you must not reach for the soldering iron every time, search for a suitable dropping
resistor and assemble a temporary circuit. Lightemitting diodes are two-pole semiconductor components, which in principle
consist of a simple p-n juncas also does a "normal" diode.tion, For easier identification, most manufacturers fit different
connecting leads to LEDs. The short connecting lead usually identifies the cathode (-) and the longer lead, the anode
(+).Additionally, with numerous light-emitting diodes, the case is flattened on the cathode side. The electrodes within the LED
form a further identifying feature. Hold an LED up to the light and the electrodes can usually be seen to be of different sizes. As
arule, the larger electrode indicates the cathode. If clear identification of the cathode is not possible with an LED, then the
correct polarity can also be determined with this LED Tester. On the front of the case are plug-in strips (13 plug positions) with
polarity identification and indication of the LED test current (I1), a red LED (battery condition indicator) and the test button. An
LED can be in-circuit tested using the supplied test lead.
