Quick Installation Guide
The OceanStor Dorado V3 series storage systems are next-generation all-flash storage products developed by
Huawei based on the current needs on storage systems and future development trends. The storage products fully
meet medium- and large-sized enterprises' requirements for superb performance, high efficiency, enhanced data
security, excellent scalability, and easy management.
This guide describes how to quickly install OceanStor Dorado3000 V3 and Dorado5000 V3 storage systems.

To avoid personal injury or device damage, arrange for at least three persons to carry and install an enclosure.
Before you handle devices, wear ESD clothes, wear a pair of ESD gloves or an ESD wrist strap, and remove
conductive objects such as ornaments and watches.
Do not operate devices or handle cables on a stormy day.
To avoid eye injuries, do not look into the optical outlets without eye protection.
To avoid electric shock, do not wear an ESD wrist strap during the power-on process.

CAUTION
Do not remove or insert controllers, disks, or cables during the power-on process to prevent data loss.
Ensure that a storage system is properly grounded before powering it on to prevent the storage system from
being damaged.

(1) Stretch your hand through the ESD wrist strap.
(2) Fasten the buckle. Ensure that the wrist strap tightly touches the skins.
(3) The ESD wrist strap can be classified into the ESD wrist strap with a plug and the ESD wrist strap
with a metal clip.
To wear the ESD wrist strap, do as follows:
Insert the plug of the ESD wrist strap into the ESD socket of the cabinet.
Clip the metal clip of the wrist strap to the square hole on the side of the cabinet.

1c Checking components
The following installation tools are required:
Phillips screwdriver (M3 to M6)
Flat-head screwdriver (M3 to M6)
Diagonal pliers
Floating nut mounting bar
A storage system power failure may cause devices connected
to the same circuit breaker to power off unexpectedly.
Therefore, ensure that the storage system power supplies
have functioning circuit breakers with the following amps:
AC power: at least 10 A
DC power: at least 30 A for controller enclosures and 18.5
A for disk enclosures
1 Installation Preparations
Only materials used in the installation process are listed here. The Packing List contains all materials required by
the installation. The bag containing the Packing List is attached to the outside of the carton.
In the C00 version, Dorado5000 V3 (NVMe) does not support disk enclosures, while the Dorado5000 V3 series
(SAS) supports 2 U SAS disk enclosures.
In C10 and later versions, Dorado5000 V3 (NVMe) supports 2 U NVMe disk enclosures, Dorado3000 V3 and
Dorado5000 V3 (SAS) support 2 U SAS disk enclosures, and Dorado5000 V3 Enhanced Edition (SAS) supports
both 2 U SAS and NVMe disk enclosures.
The following sections describe the process for installing the Dorado5000 V3 (NVMe). The process for installing
the Dorado3000 V3 and Doardo5000 V3 series (SAS) is similar.

Recommended installation positions
Total required cabinet space = 2 U + 2 U x (Number of 2 U disk enclosures)
If Dorado NAS units are used, their space must also be counted, which is 2 U x (Number of Dorado NAS units).
For example, if the OceanStor Dorado5000 V3 Enhanced Edition (SAS) is equipped with four 2 U disk enclosures,
the space required by a cabinet can be calculated as follows:
10 U = 2 U + 2 U x 4
Note: The height of the storage system is measured by the unit of U. 1 U equals 44.45 mm (1.75 inches).

The adjustable guide rails are 600 mm (23.62 inches) to 900 mm (35.43 inches) long.
The adjustable guide rails are preconfigured with positioning pins before delivery.
Two paired adjustable guide rails must be positioned exactly parallel to one another.

2e Installing storage devices into the cabinet
To avoid device damage, do not stack any components but install them onto guide rails.
If you remove controllers and disks for easily moving and installing enclosures, record the slots of these
controllers and disks in advance. This helps you insert controllers and disks back to their correct slots later. If a
controller is inserted into a different location, a system power-on failure may occur.

2f (Optional) Installing disk modules
If disks have not been installed into the storage devices, install
the disks before installing the storage devices. To ensure high
performance for heat dissipation, insert disks in the sequence of
disk slot IDs.
If the disk module is not fully configured, cover filler panels over
vacant disk slots. If disks have been installed into the storage
devices, skip this procedure.

When the storage system has two controller enclosures configured, connect cables following instructions
in the OceanStor Dorado3000 V3, Dorado5000 V3, and Dorado6000 V3 V300R002 Installation Guide.
3c, 3d, 3e, 3f, and 3g in the figure map to the sections, respectively. (Section 3c is inapplicable to
Dorado5000 V3 (NVMe) V300R002C00, while section 3e is inapplicable if no Dorado NAS unit is used.)
The following figure uses AC power modules as an example to describe cable connection.

3c Connecting disk enclosures (Inapplicable to Dorado5000 V3 (NVMe) C00)
A SAS port can only connect to one disk enclosure.
Each expansion loop of disk enclosures must be connected to two adjacent ports (excluding ports P1 and P2)
of the 12 Gbit/s SAS interface module on a controller enclosure, for example, ports P0 and P1 or ports P2 and
P3.
Port EXP0 and port EXP1 of each controller enclosure must be connected to port P0 and port P1 of disk
enclosure 0, instead of different disk enclosures.
Port P0 and port P1 of the 12 Gbit/s SAS interface module of each controller enclosure must be connected to
port P0 and port P1 of disk enclosure 1, instead of different disk enclosures.
Each controller connects to ports P0 and P1 of a disk enclosure via two cables. That is, each controller
enclosure connects to a disk enclosure via four cables.

A SAS port can only connect to one disk enclosure.
Each controller connects to port P0 of a disk enclosure via one cable. That is, each controller enclosure

Connecting NVMe disk enclosures to Dorado5000 V3 (NVMe) (Applicable only to V300R002C10 and later)
Dorado5000 V3 (NVMe) supports only NVMe disk enclosures.
A PCIe port can only connect to one disk enclosure.
Each controller connects to port P0 of a disk enclosure via one cable. That is, each controller enclosure
connects to a disk enclosure via two cables.
The following shows the appearance of the PCIe cable (mini SAS HD 8X). It has two connectors at each end.

The controller enclosure can be connected to application servers using front-end ports. The following figures are
examples of cable connections. The details such as cable appearance and types of interface modules may be
different from those at your site.
Dorado3000 V3 supports the following types of front-end ports: 8 Gbit/s, 16 Gbit/s, or 32 Gbit/s Fibre Channel,
10GE, 25GE, 40GE, and 100GE.
Dorado5000 V3 (NVMe) and Dorado5000 V3 Enhanced Edition (SAS) support the following types of front-end
ports: 8 Gbit/s, 16 Gbit/s, or 32 Gbit/s Fibre Channel, 10GE, 10 Gbit/s FCoE, 56 Gbit/s InfiniBand, 25GE, 40GE,
and 100GE.
Dorado5000 V3 (SAS) supports the following types of front-end ports: 8 Gbit/s or 16 Gbit/s Fibre Channel, 10GE,
10 Gbit/s FCoE, and 56 Gbit/s InfiniBand.

In V300R002C10 and later versions, the Dorado NAS unit can be configured for Dorado5000 V3 (NVMe) and Dorado5000
V3 Enhanced Edition (SAS). If no Dorado NAS unit is configured, skip this section.
This section provides the direct-attached connections between the Dorado NAS unit, controller enclosure, and application
server. For more topologies, see the OceanStor Dorado3000 V3, Dorado5000 V3, and Dorado6000 V3 V300R002
Installation Guide.
The following figures are an example of cable connections. The details like cable appearance and types of interface modules
may be different from those at your site.

3f Connecting to the maintenance terminal
After connecting a serial port on the storage system to the maintenance terminal through a serial cable, you can then
manage and maintain the storage system using the maintenance terminal.
During the initial configuration, assign an IP address to the management network port through the serial port.

When you connect DC power cables, ensure that the black cable leading from the anode of the DC power
source connects to the RTN (+) terminal and that the blue cable leading from the cathode of the DC power
source connects to the NEG (-) terminal.

5a Switching on external power supplies
Turn on external power supplies in the following sequence: disk enclosures → controller enclosures → NAS units (if
configured) → switches (for a SAN) → application servers.

5 Powering On the Storage System
To avoid electric shock, do not wear an ESD wrist strap when the storage system is powering on.
Do not change cable connections between enclosures after power-on. Otherwise the storage system may malfunction.
If the expansion cables are incorrectly connected, power off the device, reconnect the expansion cable, and power on
the device.
Follow the correct power-on sequence of the storage system: Turn on the external power supplies for each device (disk
enclosures first, then controller enclosures and NAS units). → Press the power buttons on the controller enclosures. →Power
on the switches. → (If configured) Press the power buttons on the NAS units. → Power on the application servers.
Follow the correct power-off sequence of the storage system: Stop host services. →(If configured) Press and hold down the
power buttons (typically for 5 seconds) on the NAS units until the units are completely powered off. → Press and hold down the
power buttons (typically for 5 seconds) on the controller enclosures until the system is completely powered off. → Disconnect
the controller enclosures, disk enclosures and NAS units from their power supplies.
The power-on of the storage system takes 15 to 30 minutes. When the power indicator on the controller enclosure no longer
blinks, the power-on is completed.

After powering on the controller enclosure, check the Alarm/Location indicators of disks.
If the Alarm/Location indicator of a disk is steady red, contact Huawei technical support.
If all Alarm/Location indicators are off, all disks are running correctly.

•If NAS units are configured, use the same method to check their indicators. When checking disk
indicators, you only need to check the disks in slots 0 to 3 on the NAS units.

If NAS units are configured, power them on after the controller enclosures have been powered on. The methods for
powering on controller enclosures and NAS units are the same.

Install the following host software programs on the application server:
1. BCManager eReplication. For details about how to install BCManager eReplication, refer to the OceanStor BCManager
eReplication User Guide.
2. UltraPath, a multipathing program. For details about how to install UltraPath, refer to the OceanStor UltraPath for Windows
User Guide, OceanStor UltraPath for Linux User Guide, OceanStor UltraPath for Solaris User Guide, OceanStor UltraPath
for AIX User Guide, or OceanStor UltraPath for vSphere User Guide.
3. eService. For details about how to install eService, refer to the OceanStor eService User Guide.
4. SystemReporter. For details about how to install SystemReporter, see the corresponding OceanStor SystemReporter User
Guide.
For details about initializing the storage system, refer to the OceanStor Dorado3000 V3, Dorado5000 V3, and
Dorado6000 V3 V300R002 Installation Guide.
The default user name and password of the storage system are admin and Admin@storage respectively.
You must change the default password immediately after you have logged in to the storage system for the first time
and periodically change your password in the future. This reduces the password leakage risks. The command to
change password is change user_password.For details about how to change the password in DeviceManager, see
the OceanStor Dorado V3 Series V300R002 Administrator Guide.
If you do not change the IP address of the management network port, use the port's default IP address (see the
appendix) to log in to OceanStor DeviceManager. Ensure that the maintenance terminal has been connected to the
management network port of the storage system using a network cable, and the IP address of the maintenance
terminal is on the same network segment as the default IP address of the management network port.
7 (Optional) Installing Host Software
After you have powered on the storage system, perform the following steps to initialize it:
1. Connect the serial port on the controller enclosure to the maintenance terminal.
2. Log in to the CLI of the storage system using remote login software (such as PuTTY, and set Speed to 115200).
3. Run the change system management_ip command to change the IP address of the management network port.
4. Log in to OceanStor DeviceManager on the maintenance terminal using the IP address of the management network port.
a. Run Internet Explorer on the maintenance terminal.
b. In the address box, type https://XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX:8088 and press Enter.
c. Type the user name and password in Username and Password.
5. In DeviceManager, follow the Settings > Initial Configuration wizard to change the basic information, configure the device
time, disk domain, and alarm notification, and import license files. If you do not perform the initial configuration as prompted,
follow-up configuration and use of services will be affected.
Obtain the documentation related to the software from the Huawei technical support website. For more
information about installing host software, refer to the OceanStor Dorado3000 V3, Dorado5000 V3, and
Dorado6000 V3 V300R002 Installation Guide.
After installing the storage system, log in to https://support.huawei.com/enterprise/, choose TECHNICAL
SUPPORT > Product Support > Enterprise Data Center > Enterprise Storage, and click the product
model to go to the document page of the product. Then, search for, browse, and download the Acceptance
Test Guide of the corresponding version.
You can download PuTTY from chiark website.
You are advised to use the latest version of PuTTY. Otherwise, you may fail to log in to the storage system.
In V300R002C00 or in V300R002C10 and later where OceanStor Dorado NAS units are not configured,
XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX indicates the IP address of the management network port on the controller enclosure of
the storage system.
In V300R002C10 and later where OceanStor Dorado NAS units are configured, XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX indicates
the IP address of the management network port on the OceanStor Dorado NAS unit upon your first login.
If a firewall is configured, you should enable port 8088 for the system to provide web services externally.
Your web browser may display a security certificate error. If the IP address is correct, you can neglect the
prompt and continue to access the storage system.
