structure, working principles, installation, operation and maintenance (O&M).

1 Safety Precautions
1.1 Precautions for Handling a UPS
When handling a UPS, observe the following precautions:
All repairs and operations should be performed by authorized service personnel only.
Ensure all power is disconnected before performing installation and other operations.
Components inside an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) are not operable. Do not open
the UPS cover. Otherwise, electric shocks may occur, and the resulting UPS faults are
beyond warranty scope.
Before moving or reconnecting a UPS, disconnect the AC input and batteries and wait
about 5 minutes until the UPS is powered off. Otherwise, electric shocks may occur.
To ensure human safety and normal UPS operation, the UPS must be properly grounded
before use.
To ensure that a UPS has a long service life and trusted reliability, do not place it in the
following places for a long time:
−Places where the temperature and relative humidity are outside the specifications
(temperature: 0–40°C, relative humidity: 0%–95%)
−Places in direct sunlight or near heat sources
−Places where a UPS is susceptible to vibrations and shocks
−Dusty places, or places where corrosive substances, salts, or flammable gases are
present
Keep the air vents of the UPS unobstructed. Poor ventilation will increase the UPS
internal temperature, which will shorten the lifetime of the UPS components and even
the UPS.
Liquid and other irrelevant objects are strictly prohibited inside the UPS.
In case of fire, use dry chemical fire extinguisher to put out the fire. Using fluid fire
extinguisher may cause electric shocks.
The UPS input power cable is recommended to be less than 2 meters.
Smoking and fire are forbidden within 3 meters around a UPS.

1.2 Precautions for Operating Batteries
When operating batteries, observe the following precautions:
Do not open or damage the battery, as the battery electrolyte is harmful to human skin
and eyes. If electrolyte comes into contact with the skin, wash the affected area with
plenty of clean water immediately and go to the hospital for a check.
To prevent explosion and ensure human safety, do not dispose of batteries in fire.
Before handling batteries, get tools insulated, and take off metal articles, such as watches
and rings.
To prevent batteries from starting a fire, do not short-circuit battery terminals.
To avoid damages, transport and hold batteries gently.
1.3 Environment Requirements
Only qualified personnel are allowed to disassemble a UPS. Removed components must be
handled by qualified disposal centers.
1.4 Other Requirements
A UPS can be used to serve resistive-capacitive loads (for example, computers), resistive
loads, and micro-inductive loads. It is recommended that a UPS not be used for pure
inductive loads and pure capacitive loads (for example, motors, air conditioners, and
printers).
Before using a UPS to support the following equipment, consult Huawei for special
requirements on the application, configuration, management, and maintenance of the
UPS:
−Life support equipment
−Facilities such as lifts where adequate care has to be taken to avoid any fatal
eventuality endangering human life

2 UPS Overview
2.1 Features
Intelligent Communication
The UPS communicates with the NetEco Express (RS232) power management software
installed on a computer over an RS232 port. By providing ports for installing Simple Network
Management Protocol (SNMP) card that support NetEco Express(Network), new UPSs can be
monitored over the Ethernet. NetEco Express(Network) monitors the electric grid and UPS in
real time, which improves the UPS reliability.
High Input Power Factor
The UPS is a new generation of green power supplies. It uses the active power factor
correction (PFC) technology to reduce electrical loads and harmonic pollution.
High Performance
The UPS is small, light, efficient, and reliable.
Effective Protection
The UPS is protected against output overvoltage, output overcurrent, battery undervoltage,
and short circuits, and provides quick current limiting.
Wide Input Voltage Range
The UPS uses a unique quick detection technology to adapt to a wide input voltage range.
Even if theAC input voltage fluctuates in a wide range, the UPS still works in normal mode,
and batteries maintain 100% electricity amount. This feature reduces the charge and discharge
cycles of batteries, extending their lifespan.
Accurate Synchronization with the power grid Phase
The UPS perfectly supports loads that require power supply that has the same phase with the
power grid. This feature improves the reliability of the UPS and its static switch.

2.4 Working Principles
The UPS consists of a PFC rectifier, an inverter, a battery charger, a DC-DC converter,
batteries, and a static switch. Figure 2-6 shows the UPS block diagram.

The UPS works in any of the following three modes:
Normal mode
The PFC rectifier boosts AC input and converts it into stable DC power for the inverter, and
the battery charger converts AC input into DC power for batteries. Then the inverter converts
the DC power into stableAC power for powering loads.
Battery mode
When theAC input is abnormal or disconnected, the DC to DC converter boosts the DC
power supplied by batteries. Then the inverter converts the DC power into stableAC power
for powering loads.
Bypass mode
When the UPS is overloaded, overheated, or faulty, and the bypass is normal, the power
supply automatically switches to the bypass.

CAUTION
Only trained and qualified personnel are allowed to install the UPS.
3.1 Unpacking and Checking
Unpack the UPS and conduct the following checks:
Inspect the UPS appearance for shipping damage. If any shipping damage is found,
report it to the carrier and your local dealer immediately.
Check the delivery list to see whether the types of the accessories are complete and
correct. If there is any discrepancy, contact the distributor immediately.

Installation Environment
The UPS installation environment should meet the following requirements:
The UPS should be installed indoors.
Install the UPS in an environment with good ventilation and free of dust, volatile gas,
salt, and corrosive materials. Keep the UPS far away from water, heat source, flammable
and explosive substances.Avoid direct sunlight.
CAUTION
The optimal operating temperature for batteries is 20–30°C. Operating at temperatures lower
than 20°C will shorten the battery backup time, operating at temperatures higher than 30°C
will shorten the battery lifespan.
Installation Clearance
Maintain a clearance of at least 60 mm from the front panel and rear panel of the UPS to
the wall or adjacent equipment.
Keep the air vents on the front and rear panels unobstructed to facilitate ventilation and
heat dissipation. Otherwise, the UPS internal temperature will rise, which will shorten
the lifetime of the UPS.

3.3 Single UPS Installation Procedure
This section describes how to rack-mount and tower-mount a UPS and how to install UPSs in
parallel.
Rack-mounting the UPS
To rack-mount the UPS, perform the following steps:
Step 1 Determine the position for installing the UPS.
Figure 3-1 shows the dimensions of the UPS used for rack-mounting.

Step 2 Slide the UPS along the guide rails in a rack.
NOTE
Do not move the UPS by holding its mounting ears.
Step 3 Secure the UPS to the rack by installing M6 screws in the mounting ears.
Figure 3-2 shows how to rack-mount the UPS.

Four M6 x16 screws and four floating nuts are required.

Tower-mounting the UPS
To install the UPS, perform the following steps:
Step 1 Determine the position for installing the UPS. Gently remove the plastic front panel of the
UPS and pull out the display panel. Rotate the display panel anticlockwise by 90 degrees and
push it back. Then remove the mounting ears and reinstall the screws used to secure the
mounting ears.
Figure 3-3 shows the dimensions of the UPS used for tower-mounting.

Step 2 Place the UPS on two bases.
Figure 3-4 shows how to tower-mount the UPS.

CAUTION
A distance of at least 280 mm is recommended between two bases so that the UPS stands
firmly.

3.4 Connecting Power Cables
CAUTION
Connect power cables to the UPS after switching off circuit breakers and securing the UPS.
Reverse battery connection will cause short circuits.
To connect power cables, perform the following steps:
Step 1 Switch off the three circuit breakers that respectively control batteries, loads, and AC input.
Step 2 Remove the busbar protective cover.
Step 3 Connect the ground cable.
