Power Supply Replacement Instructions
The following table lists the appliance models that are supported by the instructions in this document:
Product Model IBM®Part Number
IBM Security Network Protection XGS 7100 97Y1013
IBM Security SiteProtector™System SP 3001 46N5744
Note: The illustrations in this document might differ slightly from your appliance model.
Important: Before you proceed with these instructions, review the IBM Systems Safety Notices provided in
the IBM Media Terms and Conditions CD that is included with your appliance model.
CAUTION:
The power control button on the device and the power switch on the power supply do not turn off the
electrical current supplied to the device. The device also might have more than one power cord. To
remove all current from the device, ensure that all power cords are disconnected from the power
source.
CAUTION:
Never remove the cover on a power supply or any part that has the following label attached.
CAUTION:
Hazardous voltage, current, and energy levels are present inside any component that has this label
attached. There are no serviceable parts inside these components. If you suspect a problem with one
of these parts, contact a service technician.
Identifying the power supply
The back panel of the appliance contains the power supply units, as highlighted in yellow in Figure 1.
Identifying a failed power supply
The power supply unit uses an LED to indicate whether the unit is working as expected. The power
supply LED is located directly above the power cord connector, as shown in Figure 2:
The following table explains the different states of the power supply LED and suggests actions to solve
issues with the power supply:
Table 1. Different states of the power supply LED
Power supply LED status Possible condition Action
Off No power is going to the appliance,
or there is a problem with the power
source.
1. Check the power that is going to
the appliance.
2. Make sure that the power cord is
connected to a functioning power
source.
3. Turn off the appliance and then
turn the appliance back on.
4. If the problem remains, replace
the power supply.
Note: This condition is normal when
no power is present.
Flashes green once every second The power supply is operational, but
the appliance is in standby.
No further action needed.
Flashes red 3 times a second The power supply is faulty. Replace the power supply.

Replacing a failed power supply
Before you begin: When you replace a failed power supply, make sure that you do not unplug the power
supply unit that is working because this action disrupts service to the appliance.
Complete the following steps to replace a failed power supply:
1. Remove the failed power supply from the power supply bay by unplugging its power cord, pinching
the side clip, and then pulling the failed power supply from the bay, as shown in Figure 3.
Important: During normal operation, each power supply bay must contain a power supply for
adequate cooling.
2. Slide the replacement power supply into the bay until the retention latch clicks into place. Make sure
that the power supply connects firmly to the power supply connector.
3. Route the power cord for the new power supply through the power supply handle and through any
cable clamps on the back of the appliance to prevent the power cord from being accidentally pulled
out when you slide the appliance into and out of the rack.
4. Connect the power cord for the new power supply to the power cord connector on the power supply,
and then connect the power cord to a properly grounded electrical outlet.
What to do next
Make sure that the power supply LED is illuminated in solid green, which indicates that the unit is
operating correctly.
