GETTING TO KNOW YOUR iCOOL
Our popular mobile Sports Recovery Systems are based on well proven and widely accepted new ice bath treat-
ments developed for speeding athlete muscle trauma recovery, pre race cooling and endurance enhancement.
The benefits of ice therapy and heat therapy have been known and used in athletics for decades, however until
recently it was not possible to control the therapy accurately enough to get consistent results from every session.
Now, iCool Systems provide the advanced new compact and mobile powerful cooling hardware and electronics to
make this popular new therapy easily available almost anywhere, with consistent accuracy and without having to
find large amounts of ice (or heated water for contrast therapy).
These are the third generation of the highly respected iCools that have been used by thousands of athletes in a
large number of major sporting events around the world and by a rapidly growing number of local and national
clubs and sports training specialists in many countries. Considerable advances have been made as a result of
applying to our research the extensive feedback we receive from users world wide of our earlier systems.
These new models are lighter, smaller and more powerful and have several important new features and our per-
fectly sized and shaped mobile pools are tougher than ever and faster and easier to set up.
FEATURES COMMON TO BOTH MODELS
Both models feature our exclusive new touch screen controls and LCD display to control all functions. There are
no switches or buttons only a ‘glass’ touch panel for maximum reliably in damp conditions.
Both models can provide fast chilling of sufficient water to allow several athletes to use the system at one session
yet still maintain the desired session temperature within a tight range for the most effective training results.
Each model provides complete automatic electronic control of all functions and both are capable of supporting
accurate remote control of the optional iCool heating unit when ‘contrast’ (both hot and cold in one session)
therapy is required.
Both models provide accurate and automatic temperature control and safety monitoring of all functions, bright
external lighting, a built in clock with alarm, automatic shut down presets and a versatile one shot or endless
repeat countdown timer to assist with accurate training protocols.
PERFORMANCE
The Larger MODEL R08A Twin, has a much more powerful 3400 Watt chilling system and is powerful enough to
cool 2 iCool pools at the same time in most weather conditions or the new iCool 2 , 3 and 4 person mobile baths.
The smaller and lighter MODEL R08B Compact is designed for travelling, yet still produces an impressive 2500
Watts of chilling power. In fact, in spite of it’s smaller size, it is as powerful as our previous full size models. It is not
however, recommended for chilling more than one pool unless more time is available for pre cooling pools.
EXTRA FEATURES IN MODEL R08A TWIN
In addition to the LCD touch screen, this model also has a touch screen REMOTE CONTROL and a very large
and bright LED display, that can be clearly seen at a considerable distance, showing both the pool temperature
and the count down timer.
The Twin Model also has a very high quality built in stereo sound system and iPod dock for therapeutic back-
ground music, pre recorded recovery training instructions or it can be used as a public address system.
SOUND SYSTEM
MODEL R08A also has a very high quality built in sound system with an iPod dock and MP3 player socket. This
feature is very popular with athletes and is ideal for calming and relaxing during therapy using your own iPod. The
system has undistorted room filling volume and can also be used as a public address system or for providing a
powerful and clear loudspeaker system for playing pre recorded instructions or session programs.
SAFETY
Both Models have a built in ‘residual earth leakage’ electrical safety system that cuts the flow of electricity instant-
ly if a fault consistent with electric shock is detected. In addition the high quality water pumps are separated from
their motors by a magnetic coupling through an insulating barrier that prevents water from ever coming into contact
with the motor wiring.
The flow of water is constantly monitored and the pumps shut down if water is not detected.
No electrical fittings, not even low voltage sensors come in contact with the water and the cooling evaporator tank
is fully earthed, as is the entire mechanical system.
All controls can be ‘locked’ by deactivating the touch screen to prevent unauthorised tampering.
RELIABILITY
The refrigeration compressor and the water pumps are designed for many thousands of hours operation so the
system can be operated for very long periods or even continuously without concern. The evaporator tank is a new
technology brazed plate design made from stainless steel. To prevent corrosion, the entire cabinet and refrigera-
tion system is made from copper and aluminium and all fasteners are marine grade stainless steel.
EMERGENCY BACKUP.
If the unlikely event that the main computer in the touch panel should fail during normal operation, the separate
relay control circuit board has it’s own computer and can continue to operate the system at fixed standard temper-
atures. In addition there is an internal emergency switch that can over ride every circuit and provide temporary
manual operation for that important event, even if all of the electronic control circuits are damaged.
iCool is the world’s leading designer and manufacturer of mobile Ice Bath technology for
Sport, Medicine, Industry and Military activities. We have 25 years of pioneering experience
in the the design and manufacturing of efficient small refrigeration systems.

SET UP & OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
1. If using the standard iCool pool, inflate the pool with the foot pump provided (A)by connecting
the pump to each of the 3 inflation vales (B)in turn. Start with the bottom one. Inflate until pool is
nice and firm to touch. The correct inflation firmness is fairly obvious. Do not over inflate.
2. If using one of the larger iCool pools, please follow the separate set up instructions that came
with that pool.
You can also use standard baths and spa pools providing they have a water outlet at he bottom,
that is lower than the ‘WATER IN” connector on the cooling system and the hose is flat on the
ground to prevent air being trapped.
3. Whichever pool or spa you use, it is essential that water can flow freely from the pool to the
inlet of the cooling unit’s ‘WATER IN” connector by gravity alone, otherwise the pump will not be
able to start and maintain the necessary flow.
4. Set up both the Pool and your Cooling unit on a level surface and both at the the same level.
The system can not pick up and circulate the cooling water if the Cooling unit is higher than the
Pool

7. If using the iCool standard recommended pool, fill it with water to the level shown in (F). This is
about 350 liters (92 US gallons) and is the optimum level for both recovery and pre cooling work.
8. Check that fittings are secure, that there are no leaks and that hoses are laying flat on the floor.
Pump may not be able to circulate the water properly if the hoses are raised or kinked.

9. Connect the Cooling System to mains electricity by connecting the cable (G)provided. Electricity
voltage must comply with that specified on the name plate (H)The power outlet socket must be
capable of supplying at least 15 Amps at 220 Volts, or, for 110 Volt models at least 30 Amps. These are
standard outlets in most countries.
If you need to use a generator instead of mains power, it must be capable of providing at least
3200 Watts or the chiller compressor may not be able to start. The chilling system has a large
rotary refrigeration compressor similar to the type used in split system air conditioners and as with air
conditioners it needs up to 3 times it’s normal running power for up to 30 seconds each time the
compressor starts. Once started it only needs about 1200 Watts.
PLEASE NOTE, that the compressor needs to re start each time the temperature of the chilled water
rises above your pre set temperature. This can happen often in warm conditions or when several
athletes use the system at once.
10. The electrical power input plug (J) and socket on all iCool systems is the Australian standard 15
Amp type that is in increasing use in many countries because of the inherent safety of the design. The
cable supplied with your iCool is normally fitted with the correct plug for your country. You can use a
normal travel plug adaptor if you are using your system in another country providing the voltage in that
country is the same and the adapter has an earth pin.
NEVER USE AN iCOOL SYSTEM WITHOUT A 3 PIN EARTHED PLUG & POWER OUTLET. THE
SYSTEM MUST BE EARTHED TO BE SAFE.
Spare Australian standard plugs and sockets are available from electronics stores in most countries or
iCool can provide spare cables by express post to almost anywhere.
11. Switch ON power using the main switch (I) This device also provides protection against accidental
electric shock and should be tested often by pushing the small button. Pushing the button simulates an
unsafe condition and this should cause the device to switch off instantly. IF THIS DOES NOT CUT THE
POWER INSTANTLY THE SYSTEM IS UNSAFE TO USE.

2. STARTING COOLING (AND HEATING IF CONNECTED)
Touch the Key. Touching this key starts (and also Stops) the cold pool water circulation pump.
You must make sure that water is circulating back to the pool correctly before you go to the next step.
The cooling (or heating) system can not be started unless the water pump is running.
The system has a water flow detector to prevent the pump running dry which would eventually
damage it.
If the flow of water stops for more than 2 minutes for any reason while the water cooling system
(or an attached heating unit) is running, the entire system will stop and the “no water detected”
icon will apear on the LCD display.
Once you are sure that the water is running correctly Touch the key to start the refriger-
ation system.
Your iCool will chill the water to your setting and hold that temperature automatically for as long
as you wish.
The left hand of the LCD display will indicate the actual water temperature (if it is below 20ºC) and
if you have the iCool Twin system the very large red LED display will also display the actual pool
temperature (even above 20ºC) every few seconds. It alternates between the countdown timer dis-
play and the pool temperature.

TO START HEATING THE HOT POOL (IF AN iCOOL HEATING UNIT IS CONNECTED)
Touch the Key. This key starts (and Stops) the HOT pool water circulation pump if one is con-
nected.
You must make sure that water is circulating back to the pool correctly before you go to the next step.
Once you are sure that the water is running correctly Touch the key to start the heating
system.
Your optional iCool heating unit will heat the water to your setting and hold that temperature auto-
matically for as long as you wish.
The right hand of the LCD display will indicate the actual water temperature . It alternates between
the outside air temperature and the pool temperature.
YOUR iCOOL CAN RUN BOTH A COLD AND A HOT POOL AT THE SAME TIME Providing the
optional heating unit and a second pool are connected.
THE TWIN iCOOL UNIT HAS THE COOLING POWER TO RUN 2 COLD POOLS AT THE SAME TIME
providing that the weather conditions or room temperature are not extreme (over 35ºC) and that
you have the optional water distribution manifold that directs the water flow to 2 pools at once.
Naturally it will take one or two hours longer to cool 2 pools, but once cooled it can comfortably
keep both of them accurately cooled to your set temperature.
THE COMPACT iCOOL UNIT IS NOT SUITABLE FOR 2 POOL OPERATION. Although it is possible it
is not recommended because of the smaller refrigeration system. If you choose to use a Compact
unit to run 2 pools you must appreciate that it will take several hours to cool the larger volume of
water and in hot ambient conditions it may not be possible to reach very low temperature settings.
YOU CAN LOCK THE CONTROLS TO PREVENT TAMPERING ONCE THE SYSTEM IS OPERATING
To Lock the control panel, touch and hold the Key FOR MORE THAN 3 SECONDS, a long
beep sound will be heard to confirm that the touch panel is now locked.
The icon on the LCD display will slowly flash whenever the touch screen is locked. In
this state touching any key will have no effect.
To unlock the touch panel touch and hold the key again for more than 3 seconds until
the long beep sound is heard. The controls now return to normal operation.

3. USING THE BUILT IN COUNT DOWN TIMER.
Your iCool has a built in Count Down Timer to assist with accurately timing the use of the pools.
The Larger iCool TWIN system displays the timer in a big red LED display that can be seen at
considerable distance. The smaller iCool Compact System displays the count down time on the
right hand side of the LCD display.
To start using the timer touch the key. Use the up and down arrows to set the time
required for each person to use the pool. The time is set in 5 second increments.
Touching the key again sets the time and begins the countdown.
When the countdown reaches 5 seconds it beeps every second to warn that the time is ending
and gives a long beep at the end.
To start the timer again using the same preset time touch the key. Touching this key at
anytime during a countdown also starts it again from the top.
THE TIMER CAN REPEAT THE COUNTDOWN CONTINUOUSLY. To do this, while in the count
down setting mode touch the key. A red light will appear on the large LED display on the
iCool Twin system or a plus + sign will appear on the LCD display on the iCool Compact to indi-
cate that the repaet function is set. The count down will now repeat continuously.
To stop the timer repeating touch the key while in the setting mode. It will countdown one
more time and stop.

9. USING THE SOUND SYSTEM
Your iCool TWIN has a very high quality sound system built into the cabinet. It can be used to
play music from any iPod or MP3 player for relaxation or meditation while undergoing ice bath
treatments, or to play instructions to athletes, or as a public address system. It is powerful
enough to fill a large room with sound.
To turn on the sound system touch the key AND HOLD IT FOR 5 SECONDS TO ACTI-
VATE THE STEREO AMPLIFIERS. Activation is indicated by a long beep sound and the SOUND
SYSTEM icon and a picture of a loudspeaker will appear on the LCD screen.
To turn the amplifiers off at any time repeat this step.
If you have an iPod, it can be plugged directly into the iPod cradle on the top of the cabinet. This
cradle also allows you to control all the functions of your iPod from the main touch panel.
You can turn the volume up and down, skip tracks forward or back, pause and play all by using
these keys on the iCool touch screen.
These controls have the same functions as controls
you will be familiar with on most music players.
USING THE iPOD CRADLE
THE SOUND IS MUTED WHEN YOU FIRST TURN ON THE AMPLIFIERS, SO YOU MUST TURN UP
THE VOLUME USING THE UP ARROW BEFORE YOU CAN HEAR YOUR iPOD.
THE iPOD CAN NOT BE CONTROLLED UNLESS YOU TOUCH THE KEY BRIEFLY FIRST
SO THAT ONLY THE CONTROL KEYS GROUP IS ILLUMINATED.
USING ALL OTHER TYPE OF MP3 PLAYERS OR OTHER SOUND SOURCES
If you have any other kind of music player or an iPod Shuffle, you can still use the built in sound
system by plugging your music player into the gold left and right phono sockets in front of the
iPod cradle.
In this case you can not control your music player from the iCool touch screen. You must use
your players built in controls as normal. Because the volume will be controlled from your player
please be careful that it is not set too high before you turn on the iCool music system.
You can use these phono inputs for any kind of player or even a microphone. Some micro-
phones have a very low output level and may need a separate pre amplifier (available from elec-
tronics stores everywhere) to be loud enough.

9. PROBLEMS?
IF THERE IS SOMETHING YOU DO NOT FULLY UNDERSTAND OR IF SOMETHING APPEARS NOT TO
BE OPERATING CORRECTLY, GO TO TROUBLE SHOOTING ON THE NEXT PAGE
OR CONTACT iCOOL BY GOING TO
www.icoolsport.com
HOW TO USE TOUCH SCREEN CORRECTLY
iCool uses a TOUCH SCREEN because it is moisture proof and has no moving parts to
wear out or become damaged. The TOUCH SCREEN works by detecting the presence of
your finger. There is no need to press down at all. Pressing on the screen makes no differ-
ence it only detects whether your finger is there or not.
To avoid input errors your Touch Screen will not move on to the next input until you move
your finger away at least 1.5 cm. (half an inch) each time after touching the input you want.
This tells the computer that you have finished that input and the system then waits for the
next touch. Therefore if you are making repeated inputs touching the same key you need
to move away at least 1.5 cm. (half an inch) between touches. This avoids false inputs.

TROUBLE SHOOTING
CHECK THE AIR FLOW
You can switch the pump back on at any time by touching the COLD WATER ON key.
Check that the water is still circulating correctly.
Is the WATER NOT DETECTED icon showing on the LCD? If so the system has stopped to protect the pump. The
main computer monitors water flow at all times and will turn the refrigeration system off 2 minutes if the water stops
flowing. You must find the reason the water is not flowing before you can solve this problem.
Please re read pages 3 and 4 of this manual to make sure that you have done everything necessary to allow the
water to flow correctly.
Is the lower pipe from the pool raised so that it traps air?
Are the water connections secure?
Is a water pipe bent or crushed or restricted in any way?
If you are using an iCool inflatable pool for the first time check that the shipping plugs have been removed from the
inlet and outlet fitting at both the top and bottom of the pool.
Look inside the black snap on fitting to make sure the white transport
plug has been removed and that the pipe is clear. .
The pump can not pick up water if air is leaking into the inlet fittings. You can remove trapped air in the hoses by
temporarily opening the top snap fitting at the cooling unit. Run the pump until water flows out of the fitting without
air bubbles and then snap the fitting locks back into position.
If you are sure that the water is circulating correctly but the system still shuts down and indicates NO WATER
DETECTED on the LCD screen, the water monitoring system can be temporarily overridden. This is only allowed in
an emergency where you must have the system operating immediately. Your iCool may be damaged if you leave
this monitoring system switched off,
To disable the water flow monitoring system, touch the and hold it for more than 5 seconds until a long
beep is heard. The NO WATER DETECTED on the LCD screen will begin to flash and will keep flashing as a warn-
ing while ever the cold water monitoring system is overridden.
To return this function to normal touch the agin for more than 5 seconds until a long beep is heard. The
water icon on the LCD will stop flashing.
You can not override the hot water flow monitoring system. It could be dangerous to risk a heating element operat-
ing without water.

CHECK THE WATER FLOW
If the words appear on the LCD screen or the red TOO HOT warn-
ing light is visible, the system does not have enough air flow for proper cooling.
Is there a towel or clothing covering any part of the unit?
Is anything blocking or obstructing any of the 3 cooling fans?
Is anything blocking or obstructing even partially, the cooling fins at the rear?
Is the unit in a corner or against a wall?
Is the ambient temperature more than 40º C ?
Your iCool is a powerful refrigeration system and like all such systems it must dissipate heat. It can not do this
if the airflow is obstructed in any way.
Make sure it is not against a wall or in a tight corner
Make sure no clothing is blocking any part of the unit.
Is the unit operating in direct sunlight on a hot day ?
If the system has detected an internal temperature that is too hot for safe operation, above 65º C, it will shut
down all systems except the fans. The fans will continue to operate until the heat is reduced to a safe level.
You must correct the situation that caused it to overheat and then turn off the power at the iCool’s main power
switch and then turn it back on again if you wish to continue to use it.
This will reset the computers, clear the fault condition and allow you to begin again. Go back to the beginning
of the instructions and start again.
SYSTEM TOO HOT - CHECK VENTILATION

IF THE MAIN POWER SWITCH TURNS ITSELF OFF
This almost certainly means that the system has detected an unsafe electrical fault or electricity leakage.
Is your power socket and any electrical extension cable properly earthed with a 3 pin plug and socket?
If no earth is present the safety system may turn off your iCool. A proper earth is required for safety.
Make sure no one is in any attached pool and no one is touching any metal part of the iCool unit.
Try turning the switch back on.
IF IT TURNS OFF AGAIN THIS INDICATES A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS SITUATION. HAVE YOUR
ELECTRICAL POWER SUPPLY AND THE iCOOL CHECKED BY A LICENSED ELECTRICIAN BEFORE
ALLOWING ANYONE TO USE IT AGAIN. CONTACT iCOOL FOR ADVICE.
IF THE SYSTEM RUNS BUT DOES NOT COOL
Are you operating the system on a generator?
Are you operating from a power socket that does not have a sufficient rating to start the cooling compressor.
The iCool can operate all systems on much less power than it takes to start the refrigeration compressor. That
means that if your power supply is inadequate it will appear to be working correctly but you are not providing
sufficient current to start the compressor.
The refrigeration compressor has it’s own overload safety circuit and if it can not get sufficient current to start,
after about 30 seconds it will shut down and re try a few minutes later. This has no effect on all the other iCool
systems and they can still continue to operate normally as they need far less current.
To start the cooling you need 15 Amps for a 220 Volt iCool or 30 Amps for a 110 Volt unit.
Even though your iCool only needs about one third of this current to keep operating once the cooling com-
pressor has started, it may not be able to start the cooling compressor again after it has shut down when the
water has reached the pre set temperature.
THIS IS NOT A FAULT , YOU SIMPLY NEED TO PROVIDE ENOUGH POWER
Are the words SOUND SYSTEM showing on the LCD display and a picture of a loud speaker? If not the ste-
reo amplifiers are not turned on. Hold the Sound System Key for 3 to 5 seconds until a beep is heard and
these items on the LCD are showing. Once turned on the amplifiers will stay on unless you turn them off.
You will not hear sound if using the iPod cradle unless you turn up the volume using the arrow keys.
You can not use the arrow keys to control the sound system unles you first touch the SOUND SYSTEM key
briefly again after using the same key to turn on the amplifiers. When these keys can control the sound system
they are the only keys illuminated, otherwise after 20 seconds of non use this group of keys will revert back to
being available for other settings and all keys will be illuminated again.
So remember you can only operate the sound system using an iPod when only the setting keys are illuminat-
ed, so you must touch the SOUND SYSTEM key briefly each time you want to change the sound to enable the
setting keys.

Refrigerant 350 grams HR22 all Hydrocarbons. Manufactured by Hychill in Australia.
iCool uses only *Greenfreeze Technology* Hydrocarbon refrigerants which use 65% less gas when used as
a replacement for HCFC/CFCs and are up to 20% more power efficient. They are made from only naturally
occurring gases, and cause no damage to the environment. The refrigerant is not normally toxic to humans. It
is flammable, but only in the unlikely event that it is accidentally released near an ignition source, however
large scale real world testing in hundreds of thousands of motor vehicles and millions of domestic refrigerators
over several years has found no overall decrease in safety whatsoever compared to all common refrigerants.
