The SECURE VENT®conversion kits are made to convert the
SECURE VENT standard 4-inch pipes to your existing prefab-
ricated metal chimney or masonry chimney.
The prefabricated metal chimney kits are available in three
sizes to fit most of the existing diameters. The minimum
inside diameter is 6”, while the maximum outer diameter is
12”. The venting system starts at the Direct-Vent gas ap-
pliance using SECURE VENT 4-inch black pipes. Then the
prefabricated metal chimney is used as the outer casing of
the venting system and the inner pipe is replaced by a 4-inch
flexible pipe through the metal chimney. The venting system
ends on the roof using SECURE VENT galvalume 4-inch pipe
and vertical termination cap. Two adaptors are included in the
kit to make the bond between the SECURE VENT pipe and the
prefabricated metal chimney.
The masonry chimney kit is available in one size that fits most
masonry chimneys. The procedure is basically the same as
for the prefabricated metal chimney kit. The venting system
starts at the Direct-Vent gas applia nce with SECURE VENT
4-inch black pipes. Then using the masonry chimney as the
outer casing and a 4-inch flexible pipe as the flue outlet, the
venting system ends on the top of the chimney with a flashing
and a vertical termination cap. Two adaptors are included in
this kit to make the bond between the SECURE VENT pipe and
the masonry chimney.
The two venting systems, prefabricated metal chimney and
masonry chimney, need to be sealed so the flow of air intake
depends only on the vertical termination cap. This will ensure
a performance very similar to a standard vertical installation
with 4-inch SECURE VENT pipes.
The gas appliance must be located according to the clearances
to the wall indicated in the manufacturer’s instruction manual.
Once the location of the appliance has been determined,
you will have to select the venting components required to
complete the installation. Refer to the appliance installation
manual for permissible vent configuration.

PREFABRICATED METAL CHIMNEY KITS
INSTALLATION
NOTE:Theprefabricatedmetalchimneyueopeningneeds
to have an inside diameter of at least 6” to ensure proper
air intake.
1. Remove the prefabricated metal chimney termination cap
and sweep the chimney.
2. Measure the total length of your prefabricated chimney.
Add three inches to this length in order to obtain the overall
length of flexible pipe needed. The flexible pipe must be
fully stretched before cutting.
3. Using a tightening collar, join the flexible pipe to the cap
adaptor. Push the flexible pipe down to the stopper. Re-
align the tightening collar in the center of the stopper and
the end of the inner pipe of the cap adaptor. Seal the end
of the flexible pipe using the high temperature sealant
MILL-PAC.
4. Using a tightening collar, tie a 20 foot rope to the end of
the flexible pipe. First insert the rope into the prefabricated
metal chimney and then follow with the flexible pipe.
5. Apply a silicone sealant on top of the prefabricated metal
chimney. Then attach the cap adaptor to the prefabricated
metal chimney using metal screws.
6. Install the vertical termination cap on the cap adaptor. The
termination cap height must be in accordance with Table
1. If necessary, add a galvalume vent length to reach the
minimum height.
7. Using the rope, pull the flexible pipe inside the room. Then,
with a tightening collar join the flexible pipe to the flex black
adaptor. Seal the end of the flexible pipe using the high
temperature sealant MILL-PAC.
8. Using four black metal screws, attach the flex black adaptor
to the prefabricated chimney support. Align the adaptor
with the center of the prefabricated chimney. No air should
pass between the adaptor and the support. If necessary,
seal the joint with a silicone sealant.
9. Using a plumb line, align the flue of the appliance with
the flex adaptor. Insert the first black vent length on the
appliance outlet and secure it with two black screws. If
the appliance outlet does not fit the SECURE VENT twist
lock system, seal the inner and outer pipes with a high
temperature sealant such as MILL-PAC. Do not use a
silicone sealant. A minimum of 1-1/2” overlap is required.
10.Install black vent lengths until you reach the flex adaptor.
Slide the last vent length into the flex adaptor and attach it
on the preceding vent length. A minimum of 1-1/2” overlap
is required. Using 3 black metal screws, secure the last
vent length to the flex adaptor. The flex adaptor joint at the
inner pipe must be sealed with high temperature sealant
such as MILL-PAC, the joint at the outer pipe can be sealed
with a silicone sealant.

area of at least 35 square-inches to ensure proper air intake.
1. The chimney must be clean and in good working order and
constructed of non-combustible materials. Also, make sure
that the masonry chimney walls are air-tight.
2. Insert the first vent length on the appliance outlet and se-
cure with two screws. If the appliance outlet does not fit
the SECURE VENT®twist lock system, seal the inner and
outer pipes with a high temperature sealant such as MILL-
PAC. Do not use a silicone sealant. A minimum of 1-1/2”
overlap is required. Install the remaining vent lengths.
3. Drill a hole of 6-1/2” minimum (7” maximum) in the ma-
sonry chimney (and the concrete) aligned with the center
of the horizontal vent. If there is a finishing wall before
the concrete, cut and frame a hole of 10-3/8” x 10-3/8”
(see Figure 5). A horizontal vent run should be level; the
maximum rise allowed is 1/4” per linear foot.
4. Determine the length of flexible pipe needed by adding the
following distances: from the hole previously drilled to the
chimney top, from the inner face of the concrete to the
chimney center and finally add 5”. The flexible pipe must
be fully stretched before cutting.
5. Put the masonry cover on the chimney top. If the cover is
larger than the chimney, cut the four corners of the cover
then fold them on the chimney wall. Apply a silicone
sealant between the cover and the chimney top. Drill four
holes through the masonry cover and into the chimney top.
Insert screw anchor in the masonry chimney, then fasten
the cover with screws.
MILL-PAC.
7. Using a tightening collar, tie a 20 foot rope to the end of
the flexible pipe. First insert the rope into the masonry
chimney and then the flexible pipe.
8. Put the cap adaptor over the hole of the masonry cover.
Fasten the cap adaptor to the masonry cover using three
metal screws. Seal the joint with a silicone sealant. Install
the vertical termination cap on the cap adaptor.
9. Using the rope, pull the flexible pipe inside the room. Then,
with a tightening collar join the flexible pipe to the flex black
adaptor. Seal the end of the flexible pipe using the high
temperature sealant MILL-PAC.

The following inspection should be performed after the installa-
tion of your vent system and subsequently examined annually.
1. Ensure that every joint of the vent system is properly
locked; the threads must be aligned with the arrows.
2. Make sure the roof support and the wall bands are properly
fixed to the frame and vent.
3. Check the outer flue of the vent system to detect any sign
of serious corrosion.
4. Remove the termination cap. Make sure there is no
obstruction that could block the flow of combustion and
ventilation air.
5. Using a flashlight, verify that the flexible pipe is still at-
tached to the cap adaptor.
6. Make sure that the venting system is air sealed. Verify that
the black flex adaptor and the cap adaptor joints with the
