GENERAL
The model EX55 is an insect control devices designed to trap insects on a
specially design glueboard. The unit is for use in Zone 2 hazardous areas. Once
installed these units should only be switched off for maintenance and cleaning.
These models are only suitable for wall mounting.
PRINCIPLES OF OPERATION
To attract insects a very special type of fluorescent lamp is used. The UV light is
invisible to human eyes, but these lamps also emit a greenish light visible to
humans, which has been found to significantly enhance the response of insects
to UV light. The lamps cease to emit UV light at sufficiently high levels to be
effective, after approximately 12 months of use (the lamps must be changed
every year) even though they still glow green, for this light alone is not effective
at attracting insects.
The insects are trapped on a glueboard within the unit. This glue board should be
replaced regularly, at least every 12 weeks.
AREAS OF USE
Intended for use in all food preparation and manufacturing areas where the
presence of flying insects is a hygiene hazard.
The unit is for indoor use only.
The unit is not suitable for use in barns, stables or similar locations, if the
unit will be exposed to the weather.
The unit should be placed out of reach of children or infirm people.
Contact with Chlorine can seriously damage stainless steel avoid using
Insect-O-Cutors where there is a high presence of chlorine.

SITING THE UNIT
To obtain maximum benefit from your fly killer it is most important that the unit is
sited in the correct position. The following points should be taken into
consideration: The unit should be sited, wherever possible, at 90° to the major
light source, e.g. largest window. Avoid siting too high; ideally the unit should be
sited with the base as near to 2 metres (6ft 6in) from the floor as possible.
Avoid siting the unit where air currents can blow flying insects away from the unit
e.g. near open doors.
The unit must not be sited so that the light source is obscured; if flying insects
cannot see it, the unit will not be fully effective.
The unit should not be sited above a food preparation surface, as the intention of
the unit is to attract insects away from such areas.
WARNING: To avoid exposure to UV light the unit should be sited one metre
away from any operator workstation.
INSTALLATION
WARNING: Before commencing installation ensure that all packaging materials
have been removed.
The EX55 should be mounted on a suitable wall using the wall plugs and screws
supplied with the unit. The unit is supplied with 2 metres of cable for connecting
to a suitable mains supply

Check that the electrical details on the unit correspond with the electrical supply
to which the unit is to be connected. An isolation switch must be used with a
contact separation of 3mm in each pole.

MAINTENANCE
Always SWITCH OFF the electrical supply before attempting any work on the
unit. The unit is designed to a high standard and built to give many years of
trouble free service. To ensure that the unit continues to perform as designed the
unit should be serviced at least twice per year. One minor service to clean the
unit and check the electrical systems. One major service to change the attractant
lamps, in addition to cleaning and checking the electrical systems.
The unit must NEVER be operated if there is any damage to the cover or plastic
case. Do NOT remove the blanking plugs.
REMOVING THE COVER
The cover can be removed for easy cleaning and servicing. To remove the cover,
release all 4 latches on the side of the unit. Under NO circumstances should the
cover be removed when an explosive gas or dust environment is present. The
unit must NEVER be operated without the cover fitted.
REPLACING THE LAMP
Switch off the electrical supply and remove the cover. Release the lamp by
turning it through 90°, then sliding it out from the lamp holders. Only fit T8 26mm
diameter 18 watt shatterproof lamps.
REPLACING THE GLUEBOARDS
There are two glueboards located either side of the unit. These can be removed
by simply sliding the sideways.
CLEANING
The body of the unit should only need occasional wiping over with a damp cloth
and mild liquid detergent. With the glueboards removed the inside of the unit can
be wiped over with a damp cloth and mild detergent.
