engineered for both eectiveness and safety, however, basic
safety precautions should always be followed when using any
product, especially when children are present.

are electrically live even when the switch is o. To reduce the
risk of electric shock:

into a tub, toilet or sink or any other water source.

9. NEVER operate the MAX 2-Way Rotating Iron if it has a
damaged cord or plug, if it is not working properly, if it
has been dropped or damaged, or if it has been dropped
in water. If the power supply cord or plug is damaged,
the MAX must be replaced by the manufacturer or an
authorized service agent in order to avoid a hazard.
10. Keep this product and the cord away from water and
heated surfaces. DO NOT wrap the cord around the MAX
2-Way Rotating Iron until it is completely cool.
11. This product has moving parts. Children and pets should
be kept away when product is in use.
12. The MAX should NEVER be left unattended when

DO NOT allow eyes or skin to touch the heated surfaces.

it is operating or cooling down after use, except for the
InStyler carrier/mat, which has been provided.
19. DO NOT lay the MAX with the brush- or barrel-side
down. The MAX has built-in safety nibs, designed to
elevate the heated elements o of surfaces. When in use,
the MAX should always be placed with these safety nibs
down.
20. DO NOT operate with a voltage converter.
21. This product is designed for hair styling. DO NOT use for
any other purpose.
22. This product is a personal care device and is NOT
intended for commercial use.
23. DO NOT use this product if any parts become damaged.
Inspect the MAX 2-Way Rotating Iron prior to beginning
hair styling to ensure all parts are secure in their place.
24. DO NOT subject this product to excessive force or
shock that may result in malfunction, shorter lifespan or
distorted parts.

Doing so may cause unnecessary damage. This product
contains no user-serviceable parts.

human hair extensions ONLY, with the following precautions: If
your real human hair extensions are sewn in, you can use your

glued in, make sure you start with your MAX below the glue.

The MAX 2-Way Rotating Iron is for household use only. The
device has a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the
other). As a safety feature, this plug will only fit in a polarized
outlet one way. If the plug does not fully fit in the outlet,
reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, contact a qualified
electrician for help. DO NOT attempt to defeat this safety
measure.

In a double-insulated appliance, two systems of
insulation are provided instead of grounding. No
grounding means is provided on a double-insulated
appliance, nor should a means for grounding be added to the

for a double-insulated appliance must be identical to the parts

1. First, make sure the barrel is cool.
2. Insert the post of the Cool Tip into the hole on the
end of the barrel and push until seated.
3. To remove the Cool Tip, wait until the unit is fully
cool, then grasp the Cool Tip with fingers and pull to
remove.
The unit operates with or without the cool tip, whichever you prefer.

The Basics
Preparation for all hair types.
• Before using your MAX, you should always start with
clean, dry hair.
• You should also detangle first with a brush, and all
sections should be combed out for optimal results and
shine.
• Sections of hair to be styled should be no wider than the
length of the MAX barrel. We recommend starting with 1
to 3 inch sections at a time for whichever style you want
to achieve.
• Style the under layers of your hair first. After under layers
are completed, style your top layers.
• You may use any salon quality styling product with your
MAX, however we do not recommend the use of any oil-
based products with your MAX.
• For better hold, you can use your favorite light styling
spray on each section of hair before using your MAX.
• Go Slowly! The most important lesson is to glide MAX
slowly. Don’t worry if you see “steam” coming o of your
hair when using your MAX. This is not the result of any
damage to the hair, it is simply excess moisture that is
evaporating.
Hair Types
The way you use your MAX depends on what type of hair
you have. You’ll get the most out of your MAX if you use the
techniques best suited to your hair type.
The three main types of hair are:
1. Fine: Set MAX at Low to Medium heat setting. With fine
hair, you should only need 1 to 2 passes with MAX to
achieve your desired results.
2. Medium or Normal: Set your MAX to the Medium to High
heat setting. You should only need 1 to 2 passes with
MAX to achieve your desired results.
3. Thick or Coarse: Set your MAX at the highest heat set-
ting and style as desired. With coarse hair, 2 to 3 passes
with MAX should be enough to set your style.
Don’t rush! Remember to take your
time and move slowly through the hair.
• Volumizing products can be used to hold the style.
• To hold your style, end with a professional light finishing
spray.
• Although MAX uses less heat than other hair appliances,
we recommend using thermal protectant products before
use.
• For color treated hair, we also recommend a lightweight
shampoo and a light leave-in conditioner.

Sectioning Hair
To achieve the style you want with your MAX, it is important
to know how to properly section the hair.
• With longer hair, clip up the top layers of your hair, and
then begin sectioning and styling your under layers of hair
first.
• For best results, do not use fingers to gather each section
of hair. You can gather a much “cleaner” section with a
sectioning comb.
• Start with 1-3 inch sections working around each side
of the head to the nape of the neck. Use small sections
of hair.
• When styling hair, grip the handle firmly but not too
tightly. Let hair glide through it. Let MAX do the work.
Straightening
• Position the MAX so the rotating barrel side is near your
scalp (with the barrel underneath the section of the hair).
• Ensure the barrel is always rotating toward the end of
your hair.
• Pull the MAX straight down SLOWLY to the ends.
TIP: To straighten at the root, simply glide just the hot barrel
over the root area (see illustration). Do not close the unit.
Be cautious to avoid burning your scalp.
Curls
• Wrap a section of hair around the barrel from root to
ends with the barrel side facing the scalp.
• Gently close the MAX onto the barrel. Rotate the wrist
slightly to ensure the ends of the hair are included.
• If you are curling toward the face, the barrel should
rotate toward the face. If you are curling away from the
face, the barrel should rotate away from the face.
• Allow the barrel to rotate for 5-10 seconds in the
direction of the curl.
• Open the barrel and let the curl drop.

Flip Out
• Position the MAX so the rotating barrel side is near your
scalp (with the barrel on top the section of the hair).
• Ensure the barrel is always rotating toward the end of
your hair.
• Pull the MAX straight down SLOWLY to the ends.
• Near the ends of the hair, rotate your wrist so the ends of
your hair curl up and away from your face.
• Allow the barrel to rotate for 3-5 seconds in place before
releasing the hair.
Flip Under
• Position the MAX so the rotating barrel side is near your
scalp (with the barrel underneath the section of the hair).
• Ensure the barrel is always rotating toward the end of
your hair.
• Pull the MAX straight down SLOWLY to the ends.
• Near the ends of the hair, rotate your wrist so the ends of
your hair curl in toward your face.
• Allow the barrel to rotate for 3-5 seconds in place before
releasing the hair.
Volume Boost
• Position the MAX so the rotating barrel side is near your
scalp (with the barrel underneath the section of the
hair). Place the barrel directly over the root.
• For volume that is sleek and finished the barrel should
be rotating back toward the ends of the hair.
• For max volume that is similar to backcombing and
back-teasing the barrel should be rotating forward
(toward the root of the hair).
• DO NOT loosen newly styled sections with fingers or
comb until the hair is completely cool to the touch. This
technique can be used anywhere you want an extra
volume boost.

Advanced Tips
To create extra body and volume using the MAX:
• With the MAX barrel facing towards the back of the
head, close MAX onto the section of hair, and slowly
pull MAX in the opposite direction that you want your
hair to lay. In other words, at the crown of your head,
grab a section of hair with MAX and slowly pull the unit
forward towards your forehead.
• To boost the volume on the sides and back of the
head, gather a section of hair and push MAX upwards
towards the crown of your head. Gently pull MAX
through the ends of the section of hair. This technique
gives extra body in the root area making hair look fuller.
This technique can be used anywhere you need extra
body, volume or height.
• For additional height in your bangs, wrap the bangs
with the barrel towards your scalp and let MAX rotate
for a few seconds directly over the root. Open the unit
and let your bangs gently fall from the barrel.

Frequently Asked
Questions
How do I use MAX as compared to my flat iron?
The technique is similar in that you put your hair into MAX,
you close it onto your hair, and then slowly move down the
length of your hair. That is where the similarities end! The
rotating, heated, polishing barrel and bristles will do most
of the work for you. Plus, you’ll find that you can do much,
much more with your MAX than you could ever do with your
flat iron.
How is the InStyler MAX dierent from the original InStyler
Rotating Iron?
We took a great product and made it even better! The
original rotating iron has been improved with new features,
like a 2-way rotating barrel, a fourth, higher heat setting; an
upgraded Ceramic Tourmaline and Titanium rotating barrel,
new ionic brush bristles and 20% increased barrel RPM
speed. The Thermal Guard Training Aid and Cool Tip are
upgraded features for additional comfort and safety.
My hair is coming out frizzy when I use my MAX. What am I
doing wrong?
Go Slowly. It helps to completely dry, comb and detangle
your hair as much as possible. Position MAX so that the
barrel rotates with the direction of your hair. Also, keep in
mind to put as little tension as possible on the barrel. This
will help keep frizz to a minimum.
Does MAX work on natural African American hair?
Absolutely. You will get best results if your hair is combed
and detangled first. MAX is a great tool for African American
Hair because it will not leave crease marks like flat irons, and
the polishing barrel and bristles will leave the hair looking
shiny and beautiful. MAX is safe for any type of hair when
used properly.

Can I use styling products before or after I use my MAX?
You can use any salon quality product with your
MAX, although we do not recommend using any oil-based
products on your hair beforehand. A professional thermal
protectant spray can be applied to the hair before you style,
as well as any professional firm-up or styling spray to help
hold the style.
MAX doesn’t seem to be working on my ends. Am I doing
something wrong?
If you’re having trouble styling the ends, try holding
MAX there a little bit longer. The ends of the hair are
normally the driest part of the hair, and can be a bit
more dicult to style. It helps to use a good conditioner,
especially on the ends to help infuse moisture. Also, if you
have split ends, the hair may come out looking frizzy.
I see smoke coming from my hair! Is it burning my hair?
No! MAX is not burning your hair. This is just a byproduct of
the evaporation of built-up conditioner or styling products
on your hair and it is completely normal.
Can I use my MAX with real human hair extensions?
Yes. Make sure you start with your MAX below where the
extension is attached to your natural hair. Do not pull
MAX through with any pressure, as you may pull out your
extensions if not careful. NEVER use your MAX with any
synthetic hair extensions.
What is the InStyler MAX Rotating Iron?
MAX is a new hair styling tool that straightens, polishes
and styles hair by means of a rotating heated barrel and
brush bristles. This totally new design polishes the hair
strands individually, creating amazing results that are much
better than those they would have achieved using a flat
iron, curling iron, or hot tool. The new design delivers great
results without an extreme amount of heat or heavy styling
products.
How is MAX dierent than my flat iron?
Simple: A flat iron compresses, mashes and then literally
bakes your hair between two extremely hot plates.
MAX’s rotating polishing barrel gives your hair the heat
it needs to help style and straighten. Since the barrel
is constantly moving, it won’t “press and bake” like a
traditional flat iron. MAX also features a heated, floating
plate between the two rows of brushes. The plate
automatically adjusts, allowing the hair to have more
consistent contact with the barrel, without having to grip
the unit so tightly. The result is less frizz and smoother,
shinier hair with no creasing. The polishing barrel allows
MAX to actually use less heat than a flat iron delivering
better results including perfect flips, curls and loads of
luscious volume.
I need a lot of heat to straighten my hair. Will MAX get hot
enough?
We get asked this question a lot, and we’re very proud to
say you can add this one to the old “hair styling myths”
column! With MAX, you don’t need a lot of heat to
straighten and style your hair! MAX’s unique design actually
allows you to use less heat than you are used to, while still
getting better results than you would with a flat iron or
other hot tool. It’s a totally new way of thinking about heat
and your hair – you don’t need the extreme heat to get the
results you want. If you decide that you would like more
heat, MAX has two dierent temperature settings.
Can I use MAX to curl hair?
Absolutely! Simply by wrapping your hair around the
rotating heated polishing barrel, and closing MAX, you can
create great curls!
The heated polishing barrel rotates. Can my hair get
tangled?
No. The surface of the rotating heated polishing barrel is
totally smooth, so your hair will not get tangled.
What is the diameter of the heated barrel?
Your MAX heated barrel diameter is 1¼ inches.

How do I turn MAX on?
`
Check to make sure your MAX is plugged in. Press the
Power button. The LED bars should light and begin flashing.
Once the LED stops flashing MAX is ready to go. You must
close the handle to begin the rotation.
How do I get MAX to rotate?
You must close the handle to start the rotation. The rotation
will start automatically.
How do I get my MAX to change it’s rotation direction?
Close the MAX twice quickly and the barrel will
automatically begin rotating in the opposite direction. See
page 3 for detailed instructions.
What if my MAX does not heat?
Check to make sure your MAX is plugged in. Press the
Power button. The LED bars should light and start flashing.
When the LED stops flashing MAX will be at the set
temperature and ready to use.
When I use MAX, why does the temperature LED start to
flash?
It is normal for the heat to fluctuate during use. As long as
the MAX has been allowed to reach full heat (steady LED)
after powering on, you can continue to use your MAX while
it is flashing.
How do I clean my MAX?
When cleaning your MAX, disconnect it from the power
source and make sure it has completely cooled. Wipe the
outside surface only with a soft damp cloth. Be sure to
wring out all excess water before applying it to the MAX.
Clean more severe dirt by using a soft, damp cloth with
a mild soap. Bristles can be lightly scrubbed if necessary
with a damp cloth to remove any built up product and any
residual hair left in the bristles should be removed. The
barrel can be wiped down with a soft, damp cloth. Use a
mild soap if necessary. Make sure MAX is completely dry
before plugging into any power source.
Maintenance
Your MAX is essentially maintenance free. No lubrication is
needed. Keep all openings clear of grime and dirt. If cleaning
is necessary, unplug the unit from the power source and wait
for the unit to completely cool. Wipe the exterior of the unit
with a cloth. The consumer should not attempt any repairs.
If a repair is required, unplug the unit, allow it to cool, and
return it for repair to authorized service representative.
Storage
To store your MAX, unplug and wait for it to fully cool. Store
out of the reach of children and in a safe and dry location.
Do not pull on cord at electrical source or wrap cord around
the unit.

Limited 1 Year
Warranty
This warranty is for the original purchaser of the MAX
2-Way Rotating Iron, and is non transferable. Tré Milano, LLC
warrants that MAX 2-Way Rotating Iron will have no defects in
material and workmanship under normal household usage for
one year from the date of purchase. Keep the original sales
receipt for proof of purchase to attain warranty provisions.
Within a one year period from the date of purchase, Tré
Milano, LLC will repair or replace, on its own accord, any
MAX 2-Way Rotating Iron or parts found to be defective. This
warranty does not cover any shipping and handling charges
which may incur. This warranty does not include any damages
caused by accident, misuse, neglect, abuse, use on a voltage
other than marked on the product, or use for commercial
purposes.
If your MAX 2-Way Rotating Iron is found to be defective
within the time period of this warranty, please contact the Tré
Milano, LLC Customer Service Department Toll Free number
800-307-0078. If the product is discontinued or no longer
available, a replacement may be made with a similar product
of equal or greater value. Any attempt to repair or service this
product on your own will void the warranty.
Arbitration Agreement

THIS ARBITRATION AGREEMENT AFFECTS YOUR LEGAL

THIS AGREEMENT SHALL BE EVIDENCED BY THE FIRST
TO OCCUR OF: (1) YOUR OPENING OF ONE OR MORE
OF THE INSTYLER PRODUCT UNITS PURCHASED OR
RECEIVED BY YOU (COLLECTIVELY, THE “PRODUCT”),
(2) YOUR OPENING OF ONE OR MORE OF THE INSTYLER
ACCESSORY PRODUCTS PURCHASED OR RECEIVED BY
YOU (COLLECTIVELY, THE “ACCESSORY PRODUCTS”), OR
(3) YOUR RETAINING THE PRODUCT OR THE ACCESSORY
PRODUCTS FOR MORE THAN TEN (10) DAYS AFTER
PURCHASE OR RECEIPT. IF YOU DO NOT AGREE TO THE
TERMS OF THIS AGREEMENT, YOU MUST RETURN THE
PRODUCT AND/OR THE ACCESSORY PRODUCTS, AS
THE CASE MAY BE, WITHIN TEN (10) DAYS OF RECEIPT
AT NO COST TO YOU. YOU MAY RETURN THE PRODUCT
AND/OR THE ACCESSORY PRODUCTS BY CALLING TRE

Any claim or dispute between you and Tré Milano, LLC
(including any of Tré Milano, LLC’s subsidiaries or aliates,
collectively “Tré Milano”) arising out of or relating in any
way to the purchase or use of the Product, the Accessory
Products or this Agreement shall be resolved through final,
binding arbitration. This mandatory arbitration obligation
applies regardless of whether the claim or dispute
involves a tort, fraud, misrepresentation, product liability,
negligence, violation of a statute, or any other legal theory.

agree that you waive your right to bring a lawsuit based

relief in small claims court for claims or disputes within the
scope of small claims jurisdictional limits.
2. LIMITATION OF LEGAL REMEDIES.
All arbitrations under this Agreement shall be conducted
on an individual (and not a class-wide) basis, and an
arbitrator shall have no authority to award class-wide
relief. You acknowledge and agree that this Agreement
specifically prohibits you from commencing arbitration
proceedings as a representative of others or joining in any
arbitration, litigation or other proceeding brought by any
other person.
3. ARBITRATION PROCEDURES.
a. Before commencing any arbitration proceedings under
this Agreement, you must first present the claim or
dispute to Tré Milano by calling 800-307-0078 and
asking for the Legal Department and allowing Tré
Milano the opportunity to resolve the claim or dispute.
If your claim or dispute is not resolved within sixty (60)
days, you may commence arbitration proceedings in
accordance with the terms of this Agreement.
b. The arbitration of any claim or dispute under this
Agreement shall be conducted pursuant to the
American Arbitration Association’s (“AAA”) United
States Commercial Dispute Resolution Procedures
and Supplementary Procedures for Consumer-Related
Disputes. These rules and procedures are available by
calling AAA at 800-778-7879 or by visiting its web site
at www.adr.org.
c. The arbitration of any claim or dispute under this
Agreement shall be conducted in the State of California
and the County of Los Angeles; provided that if the
parties do not agree on a location for the arbitration,
then the AAA shall determine a reasonably convenient
location.
d. The arbitration of any claim or dispute under this
Agreement shall be conducted by an arbitrator who is
independent and impartial.
e. The exchange of information and timing of the
arbitration shall be supervised by the arbitrator and
shall be in accordance with procedures provided by the
arbitrator.
f. The arbitration of any claim or dispute under this
Agreement and the resolution or settlement thereof
shall be confidential and shall not be disclosed by the
parties to any third parties other than their respective
professional representatives.
g. Each party shall have the right, at their own expense, to
be represented by an attorney (or other spokesperson if
permitted by law) of their own choosing.
h. All administrative expenses of arbitration proceedings
commenced under this Agreement shall be divided
equally between you and Tré Milano, except that: (a) if
the claim or dispute that is the subject of the arbitration
proceedings is less than ten thousand dollars (US
$10,000), you will be responsible for no more than one
hundred twenty-five dollars (US $125) in administrative
expenses; (b) if the claim or dispute that is the subject
of the arbitration proceedings is more than ten thousand
dollars (US $10,000) but less than seventy-five thousand
dollars (US $75,000), you will be responsible for no
more than three hundred seventy-five dollars (US
$375) in administrative expenses; and (c) if the claim or
dispute that is the subject of the arbitration proceedings
is more than seventy-five thousand dollars (US
$75,000) or non-monetary, then you will be responsible
for administrative expenses in accordance with the
Commercial Fee Schedule provided by the AAA. You
acknowledge and agree that each party shall pay the
fees and costs of its own counsel, experts and witnesses.
4. CHOICE OF LAW.
This Agreement shall be governed by the United States
Federal Arbitration Act and the laws of the state of
California.
5. SEVERABILITY.
If any provision of this Agreement is declared or found
to be unlawful, unenforceable or void, such provision will
be ineective only to the extent that is found unlawful,

unenforceable or void, and the remainder of the provision
and all other provisions shall remain fully enforceable.
6. WAIVER OF DAMAGES.
Each of the parties hereby (a) irrevocably waives, to
the maximum extent not prohibited by law, any right it
may have to a trial by jury in respect of any proceeding
directly or indirectly at any time arising out of, under or
in connection with the purchase of the Product and the
Accessory Products from Tré Milano or any transaction
contemplated hereby or associated herewith; (b)
irrevocably waives, to the maximum extent not prohibited
by law, any right it may have to claim or recover in any
such proceeding any special, exemplary, punitive or
consequential damages, or any damages other than, or in
addition to, actual damages.
