USER’S GUIDE
ePad is a pen input device that captures handwritten
signatures for use in PC applications. Designed to mimic
the natural feel of signing on paper, ePad can be used on
the desktop, yet it’s small and light enough to take on the
road. Forms requiring signature approvals can now be
completed and stored electronically. For secure transac-
tions, the details of a signature can be analyzed to confirm
the identity of a computer user. With ePad, it’s easy to add
signatures to electronic documents, anytime, anywhere!

Getting Used
to Signing on
the ePad
If you have not previously used an electronic pen, it is
worth spending a little time becoming familiar with its
use. Practice using the pen as a drawing tool; for example,
try using the Paint Program found under Accessories in
the Windows Start Menu (Click Start, select Program
Files, Accessories, and then Paint). This will help you to
make your signature on the ePad more like your pen-on-
paper signature.
TIP: The biggest difference between signing documents
electronically on your new ePad versus on paper
is the absence of ink coming out of the pen. To
make the transition simple, take advantage of the
“line” that is drawn on the ePad specifically as a
guideline for signing your documents. You may
also find it helpful to look at the movements of the
pen on the ePad, rather than watching the screen
as you sign.

Troubleshooting
3
Having Trouble?
4
Try the following tips to get your ePad up and running:
•For the serial ePad, make sure you are running
Windows 95, 98, NT, 2000, or ME.
For the USB ePad, make sure you are running
Windows 98, 2000 or ME.
•Try restarting Windows. Windows can be very
sensitive to its treatment of memory and resources.
Often restarting and/or powering the computer off and
back on will clear up problems.
•Check your connections - make sure ePad is securely
connected to the serial port or USB port.
•After installation, check to see if the ePad driver is
loaded and functioning. Start/Settings/Control Panels/
System. Open the Mouse setting, and look at the ePad
listing.
•Ensure that a mouse is installed (either attached
externally or as an internal device, such as a touchpad
or pointing stick on a laptop). ePad is not designed to
function as the “primary” mouse.
•For the serial ePad, if you have infrared devices on
your computer (sometimes found on laptops), disable
them prior to installation. You can enable these
infrared devices after ePad is successfully installed.
•For the serial ePad, if you have other serial devices
installed, try disabling them prior to the ePad
installation process. You can enable these serial
devices after ePad is successfully installed.
