Intermec.Thisprovidesyouwithwidelatitudeinselectingthe equipmentand
softwaretoolsthatarebestsuitedtoyourparticulardevelopmentneeds.The

The6110 ComputerisbasedontheÉlanSC400 Processoroperatingata
maximumspeedof99 MHz.ThisprocessorisbasedontheAMDAm486 CPU
andcontainsan8K write-backcache,integratedmemorycontroller,PC/AT
systemlogic,PC Cardcontroller,LCDgraphicscontroller,IrDAinfrared port,
and powermanagementfeaturesinoneintegrated package.Theintegrated
LCDcontrollerisCGAregistersetcompatible.

BCAUTION:This computerhas ONEprimarypowersource,theMAIN Battery.Theonlyfunction
of theBackup Batteryistomaintain powertoRAMwhile changing MainBatteries.At
all times during operation and while stored(overnight, long periodsof time,and
during suspend),theunitmusthave itsMainBatteryinstalled.
BatterystatusisreportedbyanLEDindicatoronthefrontoftheunitaswell
asonthebatterypackitself.

MainBattery
Themainbatteryisa 1350 mAHlithiumionpowerpack,andhasauseful life of
500 charge/dischargecycles.Thebatterypackcontainsasmartprocessorfor
thesystemsoftwaretoreportbatterystatus.
Thisbatterysuppliespowertothe6110 Computer.Insuspendmode,it
maintainsRAM,RTC,andCMOSsettings.Whenthecomputerisoff charge,
themainbatteryalsosuppliesanyneededchargetothebackupbattery.The
mainbatterymustalwaysbeinstalled,exceptwhenreplacingbatteries.
Besureyourbatteriesarefullychargedbeforeleavingthemoff chargeforlong
periodsoftime.Whereasaunit, withfullychargedmainandbackupbatteries,
canbeleftoff charge overnightorforalongweekend.However,ifyour6110
Computergoesintoshutdownmode,asaresultofalowmainbattery,yourdata
remainsprotectedbythebackupbattery.
Onemethodofcheckingbatterycapacityistotouchtwocontactsat thesame
time,as shownintheTroubleshootingsectionofthe6110 Hand-HeldComputer
User’sGuide.AnothermethodistouseasoftwarefuelgaugebasedontheAPM
1.1specification.Thisrequiresapplicationdevelopment.
Backup Battery
Thebackupbatteryisforemergenciesonly.ItisunabletomaintainDRAM
contentsforanextendedtime, withthe expectationofsupportingthesystem
withoutamainbattery.Ifthemainbatteryisdrainedcompletelyorisnot
reinstalled,datastoredinDRAMislost.The entireDRAMisprotectedagainst
loss bytwo3.0voltvanadium-lithium “coin”cells, whichcansurvive2000
charge/dischargecycles.
Thebackupbatteryhasacapacityof100 mAH.Whenfullycharged,itretains
datainthe8 and16 MBsizesofDRAMforapproximately24 hours; whereas
the32 MBofDRAMisonlyratedfor16 hours.However,thebackupbatteryis
ontrickle-chargewhenevertheunitispoweredfrom themainbatteryorwhen
connectedtoacharger.
"NOTE:Adischarged backup batterytakes14 hourstorecharge.Adischarged main battery
takestwo hourstorecharge.When charging the batteriesinthe 6110 Computer,
maintainthe charge forafull 14 hoursto ensurethatboththe backup batteryand the
main batterypack arefully charged.

Tochargethebatteriesinyour6110 Computer,placethecomputerintoa 6110
Dockor connectit toacharger.
COM1providesRS-232 andRS-485 communicationstothedock.TheRS-232
interface onthedocksupportsRXD, TXD, RTS,CTS,andGNDsignals.
"NOTE:TheDCD,DTR,DSR,and RIsignals arenotsupported on COM1.
RS-485 communicationisenabledbyhardwareinthedockandaspecialcable
attachedtothedock, withamaximumspeedof115.2KB.
Onall docks,thereisanindicatoronthefrontofeachdockordockingposition
thatindicatesthestatusofcharge onthecomputerinthedock.Thisindicator
doesnot turnon unless acomputerisinstalled.

Computer canalsobea“wireless”connectionintoanydockthatcontainsan
IrDAtoRS-232 translationcircuit,providingahalf-duplexRS-232 serialporton

The6110 Computerfeaturesa backlit,touch-sensitive,liquidcrystaldisplay

landscape,but throughsystemsoftwareitisrotatedintoportrait mode.
Youcan use eitherastylusoryourfingeronthetouchscreen.Application
softwarecanoperatethedisplayineitherportraitorlandscapemodeand
receivetouchinputsas standardmousemessages.
Backlight
Thebacklightisuseful indarkenedconditions.However,usethebacklightonly
asneeded,sinceitreducesthebatterylife.

Suspend/ResumeKey
Tosuspendtheterminal,press andholdthesuspend/resume(I/O)keyforabout
three seconds.Toresume operation,press andreleasethesamekey.
The6110 Computerautomaticallysuspendswhenthereisnoactivityforatime,
whichconservespower,therebyprotectingagainstloss ofdatawhilereplacing
themainbatteryorleavingtheunitunattended.Thistimeisdeterminedbythe
configurationprogram(refertotheDevice Supportsection,onpage4-39,for
additional information).
ResetKeys
Alwaysattempt toshutdownWindowsbeforeresettingthe6110 Computer.
RefertotheWindows95 TipsparagraphintheWindows95 Supportsectionfor
hintsonshuttingdownWindows. Keepinmind,thereisnohardwarereset.
