Thank you for your selection of the Invacare Coastlite manual wheelchair. This
wheelchair is manufactured from high quality 7000 series seamless aluminium tubing.
The advantage of using this high grade material is two-fold. Firstly, this chair remains
well within industry standards for strength and durability. Secondly, Invacare is able to
build a high strength product at a minimum weight. Every component of an Invacare
chair is produced after extensive research and evaluation to ensure durability, reliability
and efficiency meet International Standards.

Safety Instructions
The Invacare Coastlite wheelchair is designed for everyday use by adults, either indoor
or outdoor but not for sport. The chairs are applicable in most of environments except
physically hazardous environments
Safety is a very important consideration when using a wheelchair. It is important that
you read and understand all the operating and safety instructions discussed in this
manual. Ensure that your wheelchair is correctly fitted and adjusted by your selling
Dealer or by your attending therapist.
Be sure to engage the wheel locks before entering or leaving the chair. The wheel locks
are designed to prevent movement of the chair. It is preferable to ensure that the front
castors are in the forward position before transferring. With the castors in the forward
position the wheel base of the chair is increased therefore offering more stability.
Do not move forward in the seat whilst leaning forward out of the chair. If an object is
to be picked up from the floor, wheel or drive past it, then reverse so the front castors
are in the forward position, as the chair will then have its greatest stability in this
position.

To maintain lateral stability do not reach further than the length of your arm. Do not
lean out of the chair as this could cause instability.
When transferring do not stand on the foot plates. Depending on the style of foot plate,
either swing them away or fold them up before transferring.

When approaching a ramp be sure of your own ability and your limitations in terms of
strength and endurance. You and your carer should first consult a qualified specialist as
to the correct techniques for ramp negotiation.
Before attempting a ramp the following basic safety rules should be considered:
1. Surface of the ramp: Is it too slippery ?
2. Degree of incline: Is it too steep to attempt alone ?
3. Length of ramp: Is it too long for your endurance ?
4. Obstacles: Are there any obstacles on the ramp that would necessitate an
attendants assistance ?
Assistance is always recommended when going up or down steep inclines.
In order to prevent loss of steering control, or the possibility of tipping over backwards,
an attendant is recommended when going up inclines greater than 10%
( 30cm elevation on a 300cm ramp).
If it becomes necessary to stop when going up an incline, special care must be taken to
avoid abrupt or sudden forward movement when you resume propelling the chair so as
to avoid forces which could tip the chair backwards.
Always keep the chair under control when going down a ramp or incline. Speed should
be controlled at all times. When using a manual chair speed can be controlled by
holding the push rims. Do not use the wheel locks to slow your descent. Attempting to
use the wheel locks could cause one to accidentally lock and induce a sudden movement
either to one side or a sudden stop. Such movement could cause the chair to tip.
Sudden directional changes should also be avoided on an incline to prevent instability.
When a chair is being attended by a carer and a kerb is encountered, care should be
taken to prevent the user being thrown forward:
1. Go down the kerb rear wheels first, making sure that the user is square to the
kerb so that the rear wheels go down together.
2. Go up a kerb frontward with both front wheels up together.
3. Avoid going up multiple steps.
4. Avoid using escalators. Use the elevator.
Note: As with all adjustable wheelchairs, operation at the extremes of adjustment
may affect handling and performance.
CAUTION: This is a finely balanced chair where limited stability
(tipping) could occur on a slope of less than 10 degrees.

Unpacking & Assembly
Unpacking
After removal from the carton please check that you have been supplied with the
following main parts.
1. The main frame with front castors attached.
2. Foot rigging: C650 Swing away & detachable legrests
3. Rear drive wheels: C650 24” x 1-3/8” Spoke wheels
Assembly
Please assemble the main parts mentioned as per the following procedure and check the
assembly for normal operation.
1. Mount the swing away legrests as shown in Fig 8.
2. Install the two rear drive wheels as shown in Fig 9 / 10 / 11.
General Operation
1. Hold the two armrests with your hands as Fig 13 shows.
2. Extend the armrests outwards as Fig 14 shows.
3. Push down on the seat rails to ensure the seat opens fully and locks into the
receivers on the wheelchair side frames as Fig 15 shows.
4. Swing the legrests around to the front of the chair and ensure that they lock
into place.
To fold the wheelchair for storage or transportation
1. Fold up the foot plates and unlock the levers which position the legrests.
Swing the foot plates and legrests away. Either leave the foot plates in this
position or remove them completely by lifting each legrest vertically to clear
the pivot bush as Fig 16 shows.
2. Take hold of the centre of the seat upholstery, one hand at the front and the
other at the rear, pull the seat upholstery up vertically as Fig 18/19 shows.
3. The rear drive wheels can be removed if required. This Invacare chair is
supplied with quick release axles, to remove the drive wheels simply hold the
wheel and
depress the large button in the centre of the axle. Whilst the release button is
depressed withdraw the axle and remove the wheel as Fig 11 shows.

Special Features
Armrest
Fixed height three quarter armrests provided as standard equipment as Fig 20 shows.
The armrests can be unlocked and pivoted to the rear of the chair frame to assist in
patient transfers as Fig 23/24 shows.
To adjust the height of T-type armrest unscrew the button at the centre of skirt guard
then pull-up arm pad to desired height then release button as Fig 25/26 shows.

Backrest
The backrest height can be adjusted. The backrest canes are mounted into the wheel-
chair side frames by the securing screws for the armrest pivot as Fig 29 shows.
To adjust the height support the lower chair frame and remove the rear drive wheels.
Loosen the nylock nuts and remove, unscrew the securing bolts and remove the armrest
completely. Repeat for both sides. The backrest cane is predrilled for adjustment.
Choose your new height and replace the armrest mountings and drive wheels. Ensure
that all nuts and bolts are tight.
Seat
This chair features seat upholstery that can be tensioned. Whilst there should be no
adjustment necessary upon delivery of your new chair, over time stretch could occur.
To re-tension the upholstery you must firstly remove all the locating screws and
washers from the chair seat rail on the side where the adjusting hook and pile is located.
Slide out the aluminum pinch strip and adjust the hook and pile to increase the
upholstery tension. Replace the pinch strip and using a punch or a similar tool, inset the
tip through the pinch strip and into a center rivnut. Lever the upholstery into position
and secure a locating screws. If abnormal pressure is required to align the locating
screws then remove the upholstery and readjust the hook and pile. Repeat this
operation until all the locating screws are in position. See Fig 22

Rear Wheel
The C650 chairs standard specification to be equipped with pneumatic tires and mag
rear wheels as shown in Fig. 1. In addition, it has another option:
 12-1/2” x 2-1/4” Mag Wheel with pneumatic tires, see Fig 3.
Rear Wheel
Pneumatic tire -- Proper inflation extends the life of your tires and makes your wheel-
chair easier to operate. If you fail to heed below warnings, a fall or a tire failure may
occur and cause severe injury to you ：
1. Do not use this chair if any of the tires are under-or over-inflated. Check weekly
for proper inflation level, as listed on the tire sidewall.
2. Low pressure in a rear tire may cause the wheel lock on that side to slip and may
cause the wheel to turn when you do not expect it.
3. Low pressure in any of the tires may cause the chair to veer to one side and may
result in a loss of control.
4. over-inflated tires may burst.
Footrest
Each C650 Invacare chair has height adjustable legrests. Remove the securing screw
and nut from each side and slide the legrest and foot plate up or down to the desired
height. Replace the securing hardware as Fig 30 shows.
The C650 chairs have elevating legrests as an option, as Fig 12 shows.

Wheel Locks
Wheel locks are fitted to both drive wheels on all model chairs. Wheel locks should be
engaged whenever a transfer is made and / or when the wheelchair is stationary.
1. To apply the wheel locks push the hand lever forwards as Fig 31 shows.
2. To release the wheel locks pull the hand lever backwards as Fig 32 shows.
3. Do not use the wheel locks to try to slow or stop the wheelchair when it is
moving or whilst declining an incline. You may veer out of control or tip over.
4. Low pressure in a rear tire may cause the wheel lock on that side to slip and
may allow the wheel to turn when you do not expect it.
5. If the wheel locks on the C650 chair which equipped with 12-1/2”x2-1/4” mag
wheel shall work in the opposite direction to all other model chairs. Pull to
operate, push to release as Fig 33 shows.
6. Wheel locks can be adjusted as tyre wear increases. To adjust, loosen the frame
mounting clamp and slide the wheel lock backwards. Tighten the clamp and
check to see the wheel lock engages correctly when locked, moreover when
released the wheel lock do not engage the tyre. Your selling Dealer can assist
with adjustment.
Hip belt
The nylon made quick-lock hip belt can be fitted on each side frame, Belt length
adjustable see Fig 40.

Maintenance
Proper care and maintenance is important to keep your wheelchair in good working
condition and avoid premature wear, damage and injury.
General Care: Clean your chair frequently, at least once a week, using a clean,
dry, soft cloth. Do not use harsh abrasive materials when cleaning. Dry the chair
immediately if exposed to moisture.
Upholstery: Clean the upholstery with a mild soap solution, rinse and wipe dry.
Worn or torn upholstery should be replaced promptly as it may not support your body
weight.
Drive wheel adjustment: Inspect the wheels and quick release axle shafts at least
once a month. Correct any side play by tightening the lock nut on the axle shaft just
enough to remove the side play but still allowing the wheel to turn freely. Check to see
that the axle locks firmly into the axle receiver. A light machine oil should be used to
lubricate the axle shaft.
Tire air pressure : Check air pressure in pneumatic tires WEEKLY. Air pressure, as
specified on tire sidewall, must be maintained or wheel locks will not grip properly.
Broken spokes should be replaced immediately.
Ensure that the wheel locks are adjusted correctly.
We recommend that the chair has at least one full service from an
authorised dealer once a year. If you notice any irregular aspect of your
chair and/or any of the items are loose worn, bent or distorted, immediately
have them checked and/or repaired by your nearest authorised dealer for
assistance. They will advise if the chair should be returned for repairs. If
the chair is to be returned, they will advise on the availability of
replacement units, and the required method of packing and shipping.
Frequent maintenance and servicing will improve performance and extend
wheelchair life.

This is to certify that the Invacare wheelchair Series No. …………………………..
is guaranteed against defects in materials and workmanship and free of fault, wear and
tear excluded, as follows :
 Below mentioned items numbered 1) - 8) are guaranteed for a period of 1 year from
the date of purchase:
1). Chair side frames
2). Wheel locks and hardware
3). Armrest
4). Cross braces
5). Backrest canes / Push handle tube
6). Front fork
7). Fork stem house
8). Footrest
 The tire, inner tube, seat sling, seat cushion, back upholstery and caster
are specifically excluded from warranty regardless of cause.
 This guarantee is subject to the following conditions :
1. This warranty is extended only to the original purchase/user of Invacare
products.
2. The Company will not accept responsibility if the fault was caused by
misuse or failure to observe the instructions in the Owner’s Manual.
3. If a fault develops, it is the responsibility of the owner to immediately notify
the company or the Distributor from whom the chair was purchased.
4. All costs associated with the freight of the chair or any faulty components are
the responsibility of the owner.
5. Labour charge incurred in the installation or repair of the above mentioned
parts plus all freight charges are not included in the warranty
6. Any parts found to be defective due to faulty workmanship and / or materials will
be renewed or repaired at the Company’s discretion without charge to the owner of
the chair.
7. The guarantee will be voided if any unauthorized repair service or parts
alteration has been made.
8. The company will not warranty the frame or any parts damaged when the
maximum weight limited of 100 kg is exceeded.
