1 Purpose of the device
The device RFID-USB-DESK Reader reads 5 bytes code from UNIQUE standard
transponders. Depending on configuration, the device can act as a standard keyboard or
a virtual serial port (Virtual Com Port).
2 Warranty and liability of the manufacturer
The manufacturer provides a 2-year warranty on the module. The manufacturer also
provides post-warranty service for 10 years from the date of the introducing the module on
the market. The warranty covers all defects in material and workmanship
The manufacturer undertakes to comply with the contract of guarantee, if the following
conditions are met::
all repairs, alterations, extensions and device cali rations are performed y the
manufacturer or authorized service,
supply network installation meets applica le standards in this regard,
the device is operated in accordance with the recommendations outlined in this
manual
the device is used as intended.
ProThe manufacturer assumes no responsibility for consequences resulting from improper
installation, improper use of the module, not following this manual and the repairs of the
module by individuals without permission.
This device doesn’t contain serviceable parts. The repairs can be done only by
manufacturers approved repair service.

3 Safety uidelines
The module has been constructed using modern electronic components, according to the
latest trends in the global electronics.
3.1 Power supply
The module is adapted to power directly from the USB port.
3.2 Storage, working environment and transportation
The module has to be used in closed environments free from fumes and corrosive
atmosphere. Environmental conditions for storage:
temperature + 5°C – +45°C,
relative humidity does not exceed 75%,
atmospheric pressure 700 – 1060hPa.
The device is designed to operate under the following conditions:
temperature +10°C – +30°C,
relative humidity 30% – 75%,
atmospheric pressure 700 – 1060hPa.
Recommended conditions for transportation:
temperature -10°C – +45°C,
humidity 20 – 95%,
atmospheric pressure 700 – 1060hPa.
3.3 Installation and use of the module
The module should be used followin the uidelines shown in next part of the
user manual.
3.4 Utilisation of the module
When it becomes necessary to liquidate the device (e.g., after the time of use), please
contact the manufacturer or its representative, who are obliged to respond appropriately,
i.e., collecting the module from the user. You can also ask the companies involved in
utilization and / or liquidation of electrical or computer equipment. Under no
circumstances should you place the device along with other garbage

4 Construction of the device
4.1 eneral Features
The reader is equipped with a USB port that supports class CDC (virtual com port) and
HID (keyboard). The device is also equipped with three LED and beeper which can be
assigned functions:
•ON – continuously on
•OFF – continuously off
•ON Read – switching on for 0.5 second after the correct reading of the card code

Supply voltage: USB 5VDC (the device is powered from the USB port of a computer)
Transponders:
Standard supported transponders: UNIQUE
Frequency: 125kHz
Coding: Manchester
Reading distance: approximately 10cm
Communication:
USB port (keyboard emulation or a virtual COM port)

5 Confi uration
Once installed, the setup program RFIDdesk Confi and run it, connect the USB cable
to the computer and the module.

When the reader is detected in the system (USB Status: Connected) user can proceed
to its configuration.
Operating mode:
USB mode: USB Keyboard Emulator – the reader in the system will appear as a
standard USB keyboard. Approaching the card, enters tag code in apropriet format, in
active window.

USB mode: Virtual Com Port – the reader in the system will be visible as a virtual
serial port. After approaching the card, the device sends tag code, in chosen format to
apropriet COM port.
Buzzer: Depending on the selected option, beeper placed on the device, after reading
the card code can make a sound.
LED1 – indicates connected power (in its basic configuration)
LED2 – unused (in its basic configuration)
LED3 – informing about the correct reading of the card code (in its basic
configuration)
For each of the LEDs can be assigned to event:
ON – LED continuous light
OFF – LED is not lit
ON Read – LED lights up for 1 second after a correct reading of the card code.
Prefix – a series that precedes the card code
Postfix – a series that closes the card code
Output Format – the format in which it will display the card code:
•Binary – send 5 bytes of code card
•HEX LowerCase Letter – card code in hexadecimal format with lowercase
letters
•HEX UpperCase Letter – card code in hexadecimal format with large
letters
•HEX UpperCase Letter Minus – card code in hexadecimal format with
large letters and cons separating bytes of code
Some applications require data input in decimal format. In this case, selecting:
•Decimal 4 bytes – transforms the four youngest bytes, for example: 2B C4D5E
to the value 0725 72254
•Decimal 3 bytes – transforms the three younegest bytes, for example: C4D5E
to the value 000 951966
•Decimal 3,5 bytes – turns three and a half youngest byte, for example:
B C4D5E to the value 0188501 42
•Decimal 5 bytes – turns all tag code to 1 -digit decimal format for example:
1A2B C4D5E to the value 112 94521950
Read Delay
•No delay – reads tag every 0,5 seconds

•Only new TAG – reads tag only one time even when it is still close to the reader. Next
reading occurs only when the transponder is removed and again applied.
•User Defined ( 0.1 s) - setting the desired reading delay.
5.1 Configuration Examples
Keyboard emulation, sending "code card" prefix, card number and enter:
After applying the card in the active window will be displayed string:

Serial port CDC mode
Application of the card will send the code to a virtual serial port.
User can control the beeper and LEDs.
Sending a byte to the virtual serial port causes the appropriate response:
