DESK MOUNT
FOR THE GOBOOK TABLET PC
Introduction
The Desk Mount is an optional device used with the GoBook Tablet PC. It is designed
for indoor use in an office or garage-type environment. The Desk Mount is a ‘pass-
through’ device that provides:
• Quick connect and disconnect for battery charging and communications
• 2 ports for USB 1.1 communications and 1 CRT External Monitor port
• Convenient, easy storage to view the GoBook Tablet PC
Available Cables and Accessories
The following items are required in order to use the Desk Mount for charging and/or
external communications:
•1 75W AC adapter w/power cord (supplied with the Desk Mount)
•1 USB device (optional devices ordered seperately):
– keyboard
– mouse
– USB to Serial adapter
– port replicator

Features of the GoBook Tablet PC Desk Mount
Power Connector
• Main 19-20VDC input power from AC/DC converter for running and charging the
GoBook Tablet PC, plus one extra battery.
USB Connector
• Two (2) USB 1.1 connectors passed through the Desk Mount for the Tablet PC.
Power ON Indicator
• When the AC/DC adapter is plugged into the Desk Mount the blue ‘Power On’
LED indicator will be lighted.
Charging Indicator
•The power available to charge the batteries in the Desk Mount is shared
between the GoBook Tablet PC’s main and expansion battery, if attached, and
an additional expansion battery in the extra battery slot. Priority is given to the
GoBook Tablet PC’s main battery, and the extra battery slot, then the expansion
battery. If all batteries are fully depleted the battery in the GoBook Tablet PC
will charge in approximately 3.5 hours and the expansion battery attached to
the GoBook Tablet PC will charge in approximately 3.5 hours and the spare
battery will charge in approximately 4 hours.

• When a spare battery is placed in the charging bay, it may take a few seconds
before the charging indicator begins to turn on.
• The Desk Mount charging LED indicates the charge condition of the Desk Mount
only. It does not reflect the charging state of the GoBook Tablet PC unit. Charge
status for the GoBook Tablet PC is indicated by the battery status LED on the unit.
This will be orange if charging, and green if fully charged.
• The Desk Mount charging LED is Orange when charging a spare or expansion
battery; when the Green LED is on it indicates the battery is fully charged; and if
the Red LED is on a fault condition exists.
Video Connector
• 15-pin external video connector that allows an external monitor to be attached to
the Desk Mount.
Docking Connector
• Mates with GoBook Tablet PC Port and extends the USB 1.1 ports and 15-pin
external monitor port from the GoBook Tablet PC.
Hot Keys and Screen
• GoBook Tablet PC hot keys and screen are accessible while in the Desk Mount.
Communications
• 2 USB 1.1 ports
• 15-pin external monitor.
Main Power Supply
• A 75W AC/DC power adapter is shipped with the Desk Mount.
Rubber Feet
• Four (4) rubber feet are provided as an option that can be installed on the bottom of
the Desk Mount to prevent the Desk Mount from slipping on, or scratching the user’s
work surface.

Docking and Undocking a GoBook Tablet PC in the Desk Mount
1 Ensure the port cover on the extension slot is open and the port cover for the
AC power is closed.
2 Line up the bottom of the unit with the guides and press down while feeding
the rubberized I/O port cover through the opening provided.
3 Insert the computer into the pocket and press down until you hear the snap
engage.

4 To undock, firmly pull straight up on the computer. It may be necessary to hold
the desk mount down with one hand while pulling up on the GoBook Tablet PC
with the other.
Maintaining the Desk Mount
CAUTION There are no user serviceable parts inside the Desk Mount. Do not
attempt to open the unit.
Although the GoBook Tablet PC computer is rugged, waterproof and sealed against
the rain, dirt and dust, the Desk Mount is not. The Desk Mount is intended to be used
indoors.
Recommended Precautions for the Desk Mount
We recommend the following precautions to ensure that your GoBook Tablet PC
Desk Mount provides many years of reliable service.
•Avoid subjecting the Desk Mount to extremely damp or dusty conditions.
•Never use solvents or abrasive cleaners of any kind on your Desk Mount
•Avoid dropping your Desk Mount

Troubleshooting the Desk Mount
If you encounter problems with your GoBook Tablet PC Desk Mount, you should
contact your System Provider for help. However, here are a few troubleshooting tips
that might help:
•If the Desk Mount is connected to a good power source using the AC/DC
power adapter, the GoBook Tablet PC computer will start charging
automatically. To use the GoBook Tablet PC while it is in the Desk Mount, it is
necessary to power the unit ON.
•Instructions for Resetting the computer can be found in the GoBook Tablet PC
User’s Help (found on the computer), and in the Getting Started Guide
(provided in the packaging).
•If the screen of the Tablet PC is blank, check that the unit is seated correctly in
the Desk Mount and that the power LED is ON. Ensure that the power adapter
is secure in the power port.
•If you encounter problems when attempting to communicate via the USB cable,
first ensure that both ends of the serial cable are connected correctly. If the
problem persists, try resetting your GoBook Tablet PC.
